Halloween Horror Nights

I was reading in Theme Park Rangers blog on Orlando Sentinel about Halloween Horror Nights and I was kind of intrigued. Sadly my girlfriend is more in favor of the "not so scary" variety of party. Has anyone been to Universal's party? If so was it good, and was it "scary"?

I have been once (2005) and YES it's scary. Very realistic and excellent themeing. I will be down there on Oct 12th for HHN. I'll have an update on my trip report.

You're not helping me sell my girlfriend on it! laugh

Don't you mean: "It's not that scary, no reason for her to be worried!"

Sorry! sad But it was one of the scariest halloween events I have ever been to. I think this year could be even more scary than before because of the whole 'Bloody Mary" theme. Normally I don't like this type of stuff, but there's just something about the whole HHN. I'm just glad I'll have my hubby to hold onto this time!

That sounds like fun! Have to see if I can sell it to the Universal haters in my camp.

Is there a lot of "jumping out at people?" Or is it more just scary/spooky ambiance? I'm not really into the "shocking" scares, but I like eerie atmosphere.

I've not been, but I've seen TV specials about it and there does seem to be a lot of "jumping out" and "shocking" scares.

Hopefully Shelley can add her two cents.

From what I can remember, yeah there are "jumping out" people especially in the scare zones. I know there is good bit of "jumping out" in the houses as well.

Less than 2 weeks and I have a on site report!

Scare Zones are portions of the park where Actors are placed in a themed environment. It is much like a house without walls. The actors are free to roam. This event is a very in your face type of scare. The actors are told to be aggresive yet reserved. With a PG-13 rating you can expect to be spooked many times. However, the event is truely amazing and I recommend trying it at least once. You will be hooked Wink

Welcome GeeksBSmrt!

Do you guys who have been before have any tips on maximizing the event? Are there good places to eat open? Any "must-do" activities?

Most of the restraunts are open. Finnigans is open and pretty good. I havent been this year as a guest. Depending on the night an Express Pass may not be out of the question. The reviews of all the houses this year tend to be good. I would suggest all houses at least once. Most of them are better in the dark so go after the sun has set.

Did you work there? Which makes me wonder does Universal have a name for their workers like "Cast Members"?

Yes, I do. Yes, Team Members for everyone with sub catagories. Halloween Performers are "Scareactors"

"Scareactors" is pretty clever. Scary-Actors!

So do you guys have antipathy towards to WDW guys, or do you go hang out over there too?

I really dont mind. We also have a lot of scareactors that work at Disney. My landlord works there as well.

Interesting, I always sort of imagined that Disney would restrict their cast members from working at the other parks. I guess because I always imagine Disney having an iron fist about everything.

So if you're at Disney and have another job you do it secretly?

That's what the scareactors do.

Does anyone know what exactly WDW policy on "moonlighting" is? Does it depend on the position? They're all "cast members" right?
