Happy to be a new member of WDWFG

Hello Everyone,

My name is Dee, I am a Disney Fanatic. I'm originally from California and spent my youth going to Disneyland. Now I live in Ohio and frequent WDW I'm a stockholder, D23 member, annual passholder and TiW cardholder. I've been to 4 of 5 parks worldwide and am planning a Hong Kong trip for 2013. I took my first DCL B2B cruise last September and am booked on the Fantasy later this year.
I love talking about Disney, reading, traveling, listening to all genres of music and spending time with family and friends.
Dee mickey

Hi Brad and thanks for the welcome. I've been to both US resorts, Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea both parks twice, and I've been to Paris Disneyland. I'm missing Hong Kong and once it's open I'll be visiting Shanghai biggrin

DLRP looks so great in pictures, but no one seems to rave about the experience overall. Were you impressed?

To be honest we rushed through the parks, we did the studios too in one day. I love the exterior of POTC in Paris and the Crush ride at the studios, other than that it wasn't all that memorable. We traded pins and bought commemorative coins but it didn't feel magical like WDW or DL.
My favorite parks outside the US are the Tokyo Parks. I LOVE TDS/TDL muchlove

Have you visited other parks?

We only just started going to DL regularly recently. We really enjoy DL now, partially because I think much of it is newer to us. I think Paris would be the next most likely for us to go, because we've been trying to get a trip in to Europe anyway. Unless you count Aulani, because we may very well stop there on our next Hawaii trip, which we hope is this year.

Which ship did you cruise on in September? I'm guessing you liked it since you booked the Fantasy.

We did a B2B on the Dream. The 4 night cruise I did with my sisters, brother in law and extended family. Then I did the 3 night with my S/O. The ships are beautiful and lots of fun. We booked our third cruise while onboard last year. I initially wanted to go out of LA and do the Mexican Riviera however Disney cancelled the December cruises in LA, so we rebooked for the Fantasy out of Port Canaveral.
It worked out great because now we'll have a post cruise Christmas stay at the AoA yay
Have you been on a Disney Cruise?

I'm not sold on the cruising thing yet. The lack of reliable Internet scares me. DW is a convert though. She did the Dream last year and I think she liked being unable to be reached.

Lol honestly you're so busy and yet still relaxing that you can be away from the worldwide web, trust me I am an internet junkie. There's Internet onboard it's just costly and I'd rather have a Konk Cooler or three instead of access to the web.
I know we've just met how ever I recommend at least a 4 night trial cruise. It truly is fantastic and the food is Yummy. The adult only areas were great and of course the staff is great. Smile

Sadly it's actually my work that prevents me from being non-Internetified more than personal interest. When I managed to get 3 weeks of (nearly) complete solitude in Hawaii I barely turned on my computer. But sadly I haven't managed to get them to agree to leave me alone for that long again. Sad

I really like the idea of one of the Alaskan cruises where the ship moves you around to stuff that wouldn't have a convenient hotel anyway. Seems like that would be really relaxing.

I see.
For some reason I have no interest in taking an Alaskan cruise. I wish Disney did an Asian cruise. That's my dream trip. I wanted to do the Mediterranean cruise next year. Unfortunately airfare is ridiculous to Barcelona. Hopefully they'll do it agin in 2014 or 2015. I'd like the visit Greece.
Where would you like to go in Europe?
We went to Dublin, London, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam in 2009. It was a fantastic trip.

We'll probably do a lot of Great Britain and then a little of the Continent. DW lived in London for a while and would like to spend some time there. I have a sneaking suspicion we'll wind up spending the vast majority of our time there. We were going to try to go this year, but we decided to make a serious effort for Hawaii instead.

How long was your Euro-tour? That's a lot of destinations!

3nights in Dublin, 4 nights each in London and Paris, 2 nights in Brussels and 4 nights in Amsterdam. It was lovely. We flew into Heathrow then onto Dublin, then back to Heathrow. Then took trains everywhere and flew out of Schipol in Amsterdam.

Welcome to the best Disney board around. It was great to hear all about your travels. Me and my husband Mase, who is on this board also are from Ohio as well. We've actually had alot of people from Ohio join recently. What part of Ohio are you from? Me and my husband are near Columbus.

How was the adjustment going from Cali to here? I know my Pastor was from there, and he keeps telling us stories from there, and how much different everything is. Almost makes my life seem dull and uneventful.... wait... lol

I lived in Ca for 27 years. I loved it but knew there was something else out in the world for me. I don't know what makes California so noteworthy its just another place. There are great parts and not so great parts just like NEOhio. I love living near Cleveland I just don't have the Midwest mentality. I don't know what it's like to get a bike for Xmas and NOT be ale to use it that day wink I never had a snow day in school. Believe me CA kids would happily have an excuse to miss school and play in the snow lol I don't know how to ice skate lol
See, growing up in Ohio isn't bad. It's just different. silly
As far as my adjustment..it took a few years to get use to Winters. The first time I saw 8 as a temperature I thought the sign was broken laugh I had no idea that it could get that cold and people continued to function outdoors lol
My family visited several times and they all said "oh, I could live here. Oh wait it snows in the city. Nevermind"
I do love it here, I just don't think I'll ever consider myself an Ohioan.

I have heard that Tokyo Disney Sea may be the best of the Disney Parks anywhere. I would love to go to find out for myself some day! Though as a real Disneyland fan I'm not sure anything could beet the original for me. Do you think Tokyo Disney Sea lives up to the hype?

I absolutely enjoyed TDS. It's so unique and fun. Not to mention that was the first park I had flavored popcorn - pepper biggrin I also think their version of the Tower of Terror is fantastic. The queue is awesome! awesome
I don't have many pictures of TDS we took a lot of video though Smile
I'm looking forward to hong kong and shanghai. If all goes well I'm going to book a trip to HKDL and TDL/TDS for 2013.

Hi DisneyDee!!

I agree with your comments on not feeling the Disney magic in Paris!! We went Thanksgiving weekend last year (of course, in Paris, it was just another Thursday, but it was special to us!!) and I thought maybe it was just because it was SO COLD that we didn't get the same Disney love.

Look forward to hearing more about your experiences at Tokyo Disneyland!!

Eventually we'll go back to Paris Disneyland and give it another chance. I just can't compare it to WDW or TDL. Once I figure out how to post pics from my iPad I'll post some from our TDS/TDL trips. Smile
