I saw Jeff's thread that he started a few weeks ago..but I was just searching through some old blogs on the Disney Parks Blog and I saw this post about how the Tiki Room will be going through refurb to be more reminiscent of the original version.
Perhaps the real starter of the fire was someone who hated the new version???

Under New Management was the worst idea since they changed the Pirate ride to make it more "PC" ugh.
I dont mind that they added the elements to make it like the movie, I'm talking the refurb they did before to have the pirates chasing the FOOD rather than the women. laaaaaaaaaaaame
oh but we're talking Tiki Room...
Yeah, I hated that UNM. It was awful! No wonder it caught fire! Someone probably tried to burn it down.

I don't think you're alone. I bet a lot of people wish they'd had a little warning so that they could see "Under New Management" once, even if they didn't like it.

Ok, I will go on record as the one sole lover of the Tiki Room. 
I know, it's lame, but I really enjoy it. And I make Joe sit through at least once every visit.
I never saw the original version, though, so I am open to change! Kinda. Sorta. Maybe. If I don't like it and you subsequently read of a fire, though, I will deny everything!

to the new tiki room I am so glad they are bringing it back old school! If some one did set it on fire on purpose, I'm not so upset!

I love the whole "taking it back to our roots" thing that Disney has started doing. Seriously, the classics are classics for a reason and I agree that they are starting to realize that these rides are not only loved but they are a part of people. Disneyland has that whole 50's retro thing on their side since that's when they opened. I guess it would be harder to pull off in Disney..although Epcot has been embracing the 80's lately..which I LOVE.

I've never seen the original. For some reason we always skipped it until we saw the new one. I'll definitely be checking it out this fall.
