Hello!

So excited to join! I haven't been to wdw since 2007 (my 15ish trip) and missing it dearly. Hopefully this will help fill the gap some. Can't wait to learn more about WDW to keep up to date until the hubby and I can go back.

Hi Katrina!

My last WDW trip was in December, 2007; and what's worse, because of high credit card debt (since resolved), I went nowhere from 5/14/2008 to 8/6/2009. I know what WDW withdrawal feels like. You've reached the friendliest WDW fan community on the 'net! Welcome!

Wow, thanks for all of the welcomes!
To answer your questions, I'm in NJ and no I don't have any trips planned to WDW or anyhwere anytime soon. Between major ankle reconstruction last year and still not being able to walk too much, my husband and I opening a Hobby Store and now my husband needing shoulder surgery next week, we haven't done anything in a long time or will be for the foreseeable future. We did make it to the NJ Shore for the weekend in Sept this year, but that's it.
I'm so in WDW and Vacation in general withdrawl mickey

We run Family Fun Hobbies, a game and hobby store...board games, d&d, etc.; trains, r/c, classic toys, science kits, etc. What hobbies do you do? (besides Disney of course) biggrin

Woo! Board games! Do you carry the really nerdy German ones? On a related note I couldn't believe it but I saw Settlers of Cataan in TARGET!

Welcome to to the boards!

Yes we sell the very intelligent and sophisticated German Board Games (ok maybe a bit nerdy), we have a huge section dedicated just to Settlers as a matter of fact. We also have Carcassone very well covered as well as others such as Doniminon, Small World, Ticket To Ride, etc. They sell very well in our store, and we have a Family Board Game Night every Tuesday for people to come and learn them from those "who are already in the know".

Yeah, Target, B&N, etc are picking up the basic editions of them now, just like they did with Apples to Apples a few years back, but I've yet to see things like Settlers Across America in them. B&N also has exclusive rights to the Munchkin Christmas edition this year, so the games are becoming a bit more main stream, but I don't think they'll take over Toys R Us anytime soon.

I could have fun quizzing you on which games you carry. I am curious, do you have Starfarers of Cataan? I don't think they print that one anymore. I think it's quite fun.

Hi Katrina!!! I know you in real life! (Jason and I are good friends with Katrina and her husband because of the awesome store!)

You will probably love this board - really nice people who love being Disney geeks

Hey Caitie!

Starfarers of Cataan, good question. Off the top of my head I say no, but I'm not the best source to answer it. My husband mainly runs the store at this point...I kept my job so we'd have steady income until things really start to take off. Next time I'm in I'll take a look.

Do you guys tend towards rarer games or are you more mainstream? Do you carry stuff like Risk and Monopoly?

Also, welcome!

We have some main stream games, but we generally can't compete with toys r us, etc on monompoly, sorry, etc so we don't tend to have them.
We do have a classic risk that looks like the original...we like to bring you back to your childhood with the classics. So we just got in rockem sockem robots for example. We have the 1950's Barbie Board Game and Pick up sticks. That being said, we also have Star Trek Scrabble where all star trek languages are in play. We also have chess, mahjong, etc. We mainly have board games unknown to the 'non-gamer', but that doesn't mean they are more difficult or shouldn't be main stream. When we convince someone to sit down and try one, they often end up buying it. We have a website and facebook page, both with some items for sale. The shopping options are light though, because loading games, trains, planes, etc takes forever. There is no database to do so, each item is done one at a time. SO if there's something you want, and don't see it, call and we(most likely my husband Rob [also a WDW fan]) will ship it to you! I won't post the web address, as I don't know the board's rules here, but our store name is several posts up, just do a search for us.
It's so exciting to see others are interested in board games too!

dsoup you are right, my husband informs me starfarers has been out of print for a very long time. We only carry what is in print. If we come across out of print things, i.e. someone sells them to us, we'll sell them, but you can't count on what's coming in.
