Hello Everyone!

Hi Everyone, I have been in recovery from surgery (BC) and in bed with my iPad searching for things to do with Disney (13+ vacations and cast member 1991/1992. Wedding in GF wedding pavilion 2011) as that is my happy place and my goal vacation when I am well again. I have read a lot of your posts and feel like I am getting to know you all so thought I better come out of the shadows and say Hi muchlove Magic mirror - your trip report was amazing! Mr Hub - your organisational skills astound me. Robyn Princess - I would love your vacation right now! My husband and I are hoping to go to Disney December 2013.
I have been on many disney sites but this is my favourite, I look forward to reading all your updates everyday.
love Mikki (ps. That is my real name!!!)

Hello again! We were last at Disney in July 2011 for our wedding. There were 11 of us in our party. We arrived in Florida and stayed for a few days at a family villa in Kissimee, then my now husband and I moved to Riverside for just over a week, we also had family staying at the Polynesian and French Quarter. We had the most magical day getting married at the beautiful Disney wedding pavilion with champagne on a private balcony at the Grand Floridian afterwards. We had our reception in a private dining room at Il Mulino at the Swan with drinks in the courtyard there first. It really was perfect from beginning to end. We then flew down to Key West a couple of days later for our honeymoon - 5 nights at The Gardens Hotel. We flew back to Orlando and stayed in a suite at the Waldorf Astoria for a night before returning to UK on our international flights. The suite was beautiful but I personally prefer the atmosphere and theming in the Disney hotels. When we got married we were given annual passes by Disney so we had booked a ten day trip in May 2012. Unfortunately we had to cancel the trip as I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April (age 39 - so big shock!) and would be starting chemotherapy treatment. Have any of you had to cancel a disney trip? It is so sad! That is why I am planning the trip of a lifetime when all my treatment is completed!

Hi! A few of you have asked about my favourites so here it goes!
Favourite place to stay - Riverside
Favourite time to visit - Early December
Favourite restaurants - Il Mulino, House of blues, Fultons, Rainforest cafe
Favourite quick service - Moroccan cafe, world showcase
Favourite rides - Pirates, haunted mansion, small world, Soarin, Everest, Muppet vision, Rock n Roller coaster

Best Disney experiences - drinking round the world at world showcase, cocktails in Polynesian Tambu lounge, Bar menu and fireworks at California grill top of the world, Fireworks from Polynesian beach, Osborne lights in DHS at Christmas when it snows :Cool Boat ride from Riverside to Downtown, walking into the MK seeing the castle and smelling the Main Street popcorn smell!

Looking forward to: New Fantasyland, more time at Animal Kingdom - I haven't spent long enough there to know the park as well as I know the others, trying more quick service restaurants - in the past they all seemed to be burgers etc. but from reading blogs the quality and variety seems to have improved and menus sound exciting. Rix lounge - did not know about this one!

In response to question about being a cast member. I was on the international college program for a year in 1991/92. I am from the UK so I worked in Food and Beverage at the Rose and Crown in Epcot. yay

This is so sad.... sad I'm so glad that you are home recovering and planning your next Diseny trip. I hope your recovery is quick and you're back in the Magic ASAP!

This sounds like an amazing opportunity!!! How cool to have worked in THE WORLD! How did you feel about the food? Was it similar to what we might find at a local pub near you?

It is sad! I actually had one 10 year period in my life that I had to cancel a trip every year. I did get to go twice in that time, but most of the trips got canceled. Then we bought DVC and things got much more magical.

I think planning and looking forward to a blow out Disney trip is a fantastic idea to celebrate the end of your treatment! I know for me that would be a little extra motivation to get through the rough patches!

You have really interesting restaurant choices as your favorites! What makes them your favorites?

I know this might sound a little bit stupid, but how do you do the quote thing where you can reply directly to someone's question and it comes up in a little box? I am on an iPad, will it work on iPad? I pressed quote and all the conversation came up as text but I wasn't sure how to reselect text and reply?

Yes, you're on the right track, the entire text comes up when you hit quote. Then you can delete whatever portions of that you don't need. Make sure that your response text is below the [ /quote ] tag. Just hit Save. (Hope that made sense)

Yes the pub is very authentic. The food was quite good in 91/92 but it is much better now with the fish and chip stall etc. The only things that make it not like a real English pub today are the traditional costumes for CM and the tourists in Florida/Disney wear!

Hi Kristen, I am so sorry that you have had to cancel several trips. The planning and the anticipation is one of the best parts so you must have felt so deflated when you realised you wouldn't be able to go. You must be really looking forward to your upcoming adventure!

As for the restaurants, I guess the ones you go to are the ones that fit in with the way you plan your vacation and if you have a good experience, they become a favourite. We tend to visit in December when the parks close early and as we love American breakfasts we tend to just have fruit or healthy snack for lunch and like to have table service and a glass of wine most evenings. Staying in Riverside with boat trip to market place means we end up in Downtown on quite a few evenings, so we haven't eaten in the parks that much and would love to try more resort restaurants too.

We went to Il Mulino in December 2010 and had the best service and food we have ever had on Disney property, to the extent we had our wedding reception dinner there in 2011. The events planner, staff, service and food were outstanding again. We can't wait to go back.

We love to sit outside house of blues with a drink listening to the live music. I love the Southern style food and theming. It is very appealing to us because we don't have anything like this near to where we live.

We also love the bar at the front of the Empress Lily and have eaten in Fultons once. I love seafood. It was a romantic experience and we had a good meal.

Rainforest cafe is where we go when we want a more casual experience, maybe a salad or sandwich and soft drink. We are always pleasantly surprised how nice the food is and the theming and service are normally fun.

I forgot to mention - we love Earl of Sandwich too!

Hoping to be more adventurous with park and resort dining next time. Maybe do some light breakfasts so we can try some ADR for lunches instead. Where are your favourites? What do you recommend? mickey

I've heard some pretty good things about Il Mulino from several people. I've been trying to get to House of Blues but it just hasn't worked out so far. I'm not usually at Downtown Disney for very long.
By the way, you made me crazy happy calling it the Empress Lily bighug

My favorites? I'm really a breakfast girl too. Whispering Canyon, Boma, Kona & Cape May Cafe are my favorites so far. This week I'm trying Akershus and Kouzinna for the first time and I'm really excited about having something new.

It's so hard to pick my dinner favorites, food at Disney is so much better than what I have around me at home. I'm usually happy to eat anywhere. Though there are a couple of places I know I wouldn't go back to. I love California Grill and Ohana near the Magic Kingdom. At Epcot I like Via Napoli, Marakesh, and Rose & Crown, as well as Yachtmans Steakhouse at the Yacht Club. I usually snack my way around World Showcase more so than eating a big dinner. At Animal Kingdom I love Yak & Yeti. I don't really have a favorite at Hollywood Studios.

And thanks for sharing your impressions of the pub above! I always love it when I find out that something in Epcot is authentic, and pleases people who are actually from the host country.

Prayers for much rest and a speedy recovery as you continue along your journey. Your wedding sounds divine, by the way!

Hello and welcome to the group.
welcome
I finished chemo and radiation in January of his year (endometrial and ovarian) I actually snuck in a quick trip to DL and WDW while going through treatment. It helped keep my spirits up awesome
The best advice I can give you while you are kicking cancer's a$$ is to stay positive and keep those with negative feelings/language away from you. I had to tell several friends that I felt fine and I only wanted happy thoughts.
clapping yay
I hope your sessions go quickly and your numbers stay up awesome
