Help with clarifications, please - DV card

Okay, first background - when we sold our home of 22 yrs last Nov, the husband paid off everything and gleefully cut u[p the credit cards. I knew we couldn't go forever with no emergency back up but he was so happy.

So, flash forward to last night when DH finally agreed that having a DV would be a good idea since we would pay it off every month. Okay, he only agreed to use it monthly for gas, but hey it's a start.

I have talked to Chase (immediate approval) and Disney Rewards and they were both very helpful. Then, they sent me to CS resort to see if linking the card to the bracelet will automatically discount items that the card ...well, discounts. It does. Yeah!

Okay, here's where I didn't get straight or agreeing answers, so please help.

1) If we charge the alcohol or gratuity to the card, does it count as "points" or not? No discount I assume?

2) It says you get rewards for all purchases, but what exactly is discounted aside from special tours, etc. Like do I have to spend $50 at Disney store for it to discount something? The meet and greets aren't something we do, we don't golf, nor any of the other sporting events. So what do we get discounts on actually? Please?

I saw a list on one of our threads, but I can't find it.

Thanks all!

First of all, which Disney visa are you getting? The Premier or the Rewards? They each have different rewards systems. The Premier gives you 2% back, on many purchases like gas, groceries and all WDW locations, and 1% on all others. The Rewards gives you 1% on every purchase. Reward points add up on both of them for every single thing you buy on the cards. If it's gratuity, alcohol, anything and everything! We put everything we purchase on our Premier each month and pay it off. We will have our AP almost entirely paid for in rewards by renewal time next year.

But regardless of which one you have, you must spend $50 at participating stores at WDW before you get the 10% discount. You also get 10% off dining at certain restaurants.

Here is the link for the specific perks and discounts for each card.

WE got the plain, bottom line one that a number of people on this site recommended and DH agreed to.
Thanks for the link.

I have to spend it AT WDW or can I go online to a Disney store and use it? We are VERY rural, so online is my only real option.

I second that for Canada. I would have a Disney Visa for sure.

Tink, what is CS resort? Also , I would double check, because to get the discounts, we have always had to show the actual card to get any discount along with photo ID. I would double check all of this information.

We have our annual pass connected to our account also and we still have a card we have to show for getting the discount for purchases, so I can't see that being any different for the credit cards.

The Disney rewards link from above, gives very specific instructions on how to get your 10% off of a purchase at the Disney store online. That link should answer all your questions.
Since you got the regular rewards card, you will only earn 1% rewards on any/all purchases, so that will make them much easier to keep track of. This credit card works like any other credit card that has a reward system. Use the card, earn rewards. Simple as that!

I think she means Coronado Springs.

Thanks for all the info!!!! awesome
Chase suggested I call the resort directly and he said that to his understanding this is how they are all going, but not sure if all resorts are at the same stage in the process.

Mark -Coronado Springs=CS. I talked to a resort CM who answered the direct phone number and when I posed the question, "Do I need to carry the actual card or will it do an automatic discount if applicable if I swipe my band that is attached to it?" His first reply was " I think you need to carry it, but let me ask someone higher up." A moment later the "person in charge" (sorry can't remember what he called himself, but when I asked his position, he laughed and assured me he was in charge) came on line, he said that he had checked and that if the DV was the card our band was attached to, all discounts would automatically be included in the purchase. He said, that like all credit cards, when we check out we should double check, but he said that is how it had been working for the past few months.

Annie - thanks, but you have to understand that a "rewards credit card" to my DH is an oxymoron. gaah He gleefully cut up our mastercard when we paid it off and he was really twitchy about getting this one. It does say I need to make a $50 purchase at one of the Disney places listed to start the card, so as soon as it comes, there is a trivet and a muppet tshirt (DH) and some odds and ends coming, but we get it back in $50 gift card and then the 1% starts. It won't be a lot this time, with only the resort balance and monthly gas charged (as far as DH wants to use it at this time) but it's a start and two years from now, much more!

Regardless of what any CM told you, you should have your Credit card on your person at all times, if you are going to make purchases with it at Disney world. We have both Disney visa's, we have AP, and we have a card linked to our magic band accounts. We still have had to show the card several times at different locations inside the park. Just because it is linked to your magic band or AP, does NOT mean you will never have to show it. Magic Bands can still glitch, and if you are counting on your Credit card for purchases, but you don't have it with you, you won't be able to use it if there is a glitch with your magic bands. Some CM's have asked us to see our card and/or our ID when we make a purchase at Disney world~EVEN THOUGH IT IS LINKED TO OUR BANDS!
It is your choice, but in our experiences at WDW, you very possibly might have to show the credit card to use it.

I agree with Annie. My cc was attached to my Key to the World in the past (recently) and I still had to show the card for the discount. I think the CMs at the store have to input the discount manually...at least they did in August.

Okay, thanks. In all our trips we have never even carried our wallets because we didn't want any theft and no one ever questioned our room card. But better safe than sorry.
