Help with Old Key West

Hello everyone... I have been enjoying this site silently in the background for a long time. I need to reach out for some help or advice. Sorry if this is the wrong forum.

We are DVC members and our home resort is the Boardwalk. We normally visit in the late spring for eight nights. I have mentioned a desire to my wife to extend that visit a few more days. Recently, my wife asked if I would want to extend the trip this May three more nights. She figured out that if we leave the Boardwalk a few days early, we could book a studio at Old Key West extending the trip the extra days and not use up additional points. The combo of leaving the Boardwalk a few days early and switching to a studio instead of one bedroom at Old Key West saves points and allows the extension. She called, a studio was available, and the reservation worked out. Nice.

First question. I hope to get a golf course view at Old Key West. Depending on where we end up, it looks like it can be a real hike to the main building to get the free cab ride to the golf courses. Cars aren't part of vacation for us. Are there any shuttles cruising the property? Is there any fast way to get to the main building? Multiple day bicycle rentals even? Any suggestions?

Here's the other issue. The way the family's schedule works out, I get a few days by myself. Golf, the balcony, books, and some beverages- nice. I need some "me" time. Is there bar someplace at Old Key West where I can grab a beer (maybe even two), sit, and read in the late afternoon or evening? I'm spoiled by so many options at the Boardwalk. The place I saw on the website seems to have limited seating, unless there are tables outside. Didn't get a sense of the place searching the postings here.

I'll post some general golf concerns I have later if I can figure out where. Hoping there are other golfers here, too...

There is an interior bus line. What I learned quickly at OKW is that nothing looks quite as far as it is on the map, so you might not be that far. When we golfed, I called the concierge and they came over in the golf cart and picked us up. Smile

Bar wise, there are drinks at both pools, I think? We only stopped at the Turtle Shack, but the line was so long, I just gave up. We did most of our drinking at Epcot or in the room (packed our own liquor).

We stayed there in October and we were at the furthest part from the main reception area..
We soon realised that it wasn't a long walk - There we no shortcuts except perhaps cutting across the golf course which I would never have done. (too much of a coward to risk getting hit by a ball!!).

The main bar didn't look that big but there were at least some seats and seats outside. You'd probably want to avoid this at feeding time as the seats would fill up quick.

There's always the option of getting your drinks from an online grocery store delivered to the resort.
Then you can crack open a few on your balcony and watch the world go by.
