I started a new program in our city called "Lunch with a Cop".
The entire purpose is to spend lunch time with 5th graders and let them see
what is behind the uniform. I answer questions, talk about their classroom,
bring pictures of my animals, family and vacations (they all Love Disney!)-
so hopefully one day they will remember that even those of us who wear
blue, brown or whatever color your uniform is, are human and not just "the uniform".
We have 2 elementary schools with a total of 5 fifth grade classes. I'm taking
3 of the classes and another officer is taking the remaining 2. This rotates me
so I hit each class once a month.
The first lunch date is mostly spent getting the "usual" questions out of the way..
Are you a cop? Have you ever shot someone? Do you have a police dog?
Where's your taser? Do you know my mom? (dad, sister, brother, friend)
You've been to my house before, remember? you arrested my mom! (dad, sister, brother, friend)
Instead of the "are you a cop" I had one little girl ask me if i was a "cop lady".
I don't get called a Lady very often...so it stuck to my heart
I thought I'd share some pictures from my department..feel free to share yours too,
Law Enforcement or where ever you work!
1) we are starting to take more "magazine style" photo's..I'm not in these, our shift photo's aren't done yet.
2) more stylized photos
3) our SRT (special response team-similar to SWAT) uniform (tank in the background)
4) our Dispatch center
5) my great nephew posing in the rear of my slick top squad car (Ford although are slowly switching to Dodge)
6) my great nephew by they tank
7) my great nephew in our police Hummer
yep, that's Mrs. Claus in the back. I'll arrest anyone. Lay off the spice eggnog!
(ok, really we were doing the tree lighting ceremony & she jumped in to warm up)
