Hi! I'm brand new here and decided I should introduce myself!

Hi everyone! I've been lurking on the boards for a little while: I've never been a member of any Disney forum before (forums in general kind of intimidate me...), but I love Disney World and decided this would be a good place to join!

A little about me...My name is Kat (thus the username Tongue). I'm on the younger side of "grown up": I'm 20 (but will be 21 in six days!). I spent my 19th birthday in Disney World (Magic Kingdom to be precise) with my family (that was my last Disney trip) and I can't wait for another! I'm actually beginning to talk with my boyfriend Ethan & family about getting married in the Disney area (we plan to get married next May!), so my next Disney trip will be in late April or early May 2013! Probably a little early to start thinking about planning, but hey, I just love Disney so much and can't wait to go back!

A little more about me: I'm studying Religious Studies at a small liberal arts college (one semester left before I get my bachelor's) and then will attend a Master's program for my Masters in Divinity and enter some sort of ministry. I'm a total literature, Shakespeare, comic book, and of course Disney nerd: Rapunzel is by far my favorite princess, and we're planning on having a Tangled theme wedding.

Another reason I joined is because, though I've been four times, they were all with my family, and all off-property, so I've never planned a Disney trip myself: the one in May will be the first one I plan, and Ethan's very first trip to Disney, so we're relative newcomers and can use all the advice we can get!

Thank you!

Below is a picture of Ethan & I...back when I was experimenting with slightly-pink hair.

Welcome Kat and congratulations on your upcoming wedding. It's never too early to start planning. Have you thought about where you want to have the wedding? Where you would like to stay?

Thanks to all three of you! It definitely seems friendly so far!

JoAnn: As for hotels, I'm definitely starting to think about it but don't know where to start! I've never stayed on-property before so it's all a bit confusing, but I know I definitely want to stay on-property! I also am going on a budget, though (I am a college student and need to save for "fun" things like rent and tuition...) so I'm between different options. I would love to stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, but since it's a deluxe I'm not sure it's worth it (though it would be lovely for a honeymoon!). In the mid-range I'm interested in Coronado Springs, I've heard good things about it...but I've also considered totally saving money by doing either POP or the Holiday Inn in downtown disney (though I know it doesn't come with all the same perks). I'll probably start a separate board about it once I start sorting out my choices.

For the ceremony, I know we want to get married not through Disney to save money. There's a package that I discovered through a blog that does ceremonies on Characters in Flight for very affordable (since the balloon is operated by not-Disney, they can offer not-Disney prices)! I saw some ceremonies that took place on it and they were breathtaking: even the ones that couldn't go up in the air because of weather.

Welcome! I think a Tangled themed wedding would be awesome..I have not seen one of those yet but there are a ton of things you could do!

My DH and I went to Disney tons by ourselves before we had our son (this will be our first trip with a kid) and Disney as a couple is SO much fun!

Welcome, Kat! We're so glad you joined us here!

I can't wait to hear about your Tangled themed wedding! I really would LOVE to see pics of how you incorporate your theme - especially regarding your reception and cake. I love wedding cakes!

So, you're planning to marry and honeymoon at Disney? We have a LOT of folks who adore POP...and just as many that would tell you that AKL is worth EVERY penny. Maybe you could do a split stay...stay in AKL for your wedding night, or a few nights, and POP the rest of the time?

Welcome to WDWFG, you've no need to feel nervous about posting here, it's possibly the friendliest forum on the 'net.

If you decide to do a split stay for your wedding/honeymoon the concensus seems to be that it's better to trade up when you switch rather than trade down. It might be cool to stay at Pop before your wedding and then switch to something more up market (not that Pop is in anyway down market) on your wedding night for the honeymoon part of your stay.

Tony: Thanks! I never thought of it that way; I probably would have ended up trading down which you're right, may have been a mistake. I'm beginning to lean towards a moderate and staying there my entire honeymoon. Before the honeymoon, my parents are renting a house off-property so we have enough room for everyone so I'll be staying there.

Hi Kat, and welcome to the boards!

Tangled sounds like a great theme for your wedding! If you haven't already ( I'm just going to assume you haven't!) found a few websites dedicated to Disney's Tangled inspired weddings, I've found a few that might interest you!

http://www.weddingchicks.com/2011/08/25/disney-tangled-wedding-shoot/
http://www.disneyweddinginspiration.com/2012/01/tangled-inspired-wedding-disney.html
http://disneyweddingsblog.com/decor/2076/

We've opted for a Disney inspired wedding, mostly due to the slight problem of living on the other side of the world! So getting married at WDW, or DL was never really going to be a reality for me (unless I wanted very few friends and family in attendance), but the brightside is, that we are spending 2 weeks at WDW in September, so YAY!

Again, welcome to the boards!!
