Hollywood Studios Expansion A Go?

News from the "Theme Park Insider" site. Could we see a Cars Land & Star Wars Land in the making? What do you think? Will it happen?

I don't know whether it will happen, but I sure hope it does.

I saw this too. I might be looking at this all wrong, but where will Osborne lights go? Isn't that encompassed in the Star Wars Land rumor?

I like the Osborne Family lights.

I really would like to see DHS get an expansion. I think that the Star Wars expansion would be awesome, and I'm still waiting for the Monsters Inc ride where you get to be the door. I don't think that it needs a whole new Cars Land, I think California should get to keep that as unique, but bringing some of that over would be awesome.

I agree about not a whole new Cars land and instead one Cars ride--in my ideal world, Pixar Place would get a Pixar expansion with a Monsters Inc. ride, Cars ride, Incredibles Ride, Up! ride, etc.! But the Star Wars expansion would be fantastic! HS is already one of my favorite parks (tied with MK) and this would make it even better!

A Star Wars land would be awesome, but I'm in agreement that Cars Land needs to stay unique to DLR. Though I think a Cars-themed ride would be great!! I think just an expansion/redoing of Pixar Place would be more than enough on that front.

I'm not super into Cars or Star Wars, but I definitely think DHS is due for some updating. I'm excited to see what they end up doing.

Streets of America will stay because of the Osborne Lights. They would build around them. One of my friends said that she knows an imagineer and said that the main focus of an update would be the backlands aka where Muppets and Pizza Planet are along with the Backlot Tour area because they aren't pleased with the audience levels. It doesn't help that everything closes down early as well. LMA is at 1:20 and 4:30, Backlot Tour ends at 7 pm and the characters stop greeting between 7 and 7:30pm. That leaves Muppets, Pizza Planet, Mama Melrose and Streets of America after that but no one goes back there because there is limited stuff to do once things shut down. It gets pretty boring as well.

We discovered this when we were there last week and it was *SO* infuriating. I don't at all understand closing down half the park early, we didn't even get to DHS until 5pm and it felt like we were limited to just doing the things on Sunset and Hollywood Blvds. I know that there was more than that open, but it just seemed so sparse.

OOOH, a Pixar Place expansion sounds nice! I love Monsters, Inc. and a lot of the Pixar movies so that would be awesome. Star Wars I am cool with, too, but I think the focus should be on the Disney Pixar movies... and Cars Land I don't particularly need/care for, but I am not the only one who goes! : )

Also, wasn't aware that all of that stuff shut down so early! I guess I have just kind of started back in that direction, so never noticed. I will have to keep that in mind this trip.

Is there seriously thought to taking the awesome Muppets thing out to make room for this stuff? That seems a bit non-possible to me. THere's only one building, one fountain and one shop for The Muppets, and it deserves MORE, not less.

Muppets is getting a refurb, so I doubt that will happen.

My thought Star Wars Land will go from Star Tours and take up Indiana Jones (Which is a HUGE area in itself), and head towards the front more. Maybe take out a bit of the Pizza Planet and that area.

Cars Land... which like you guys I hope is more Pixar Land will go from where Pixar starts and head all the way to the back like it says. I think having a Cars Land would be a huge mistake. Leave it in Disneyland, so they have something to themselves. Its like... id love for that Hide and Seek Monster Tag Monsters Inc ride to come to the US... but that would take my interest away in trying to go to that Disney and riding it.

I think Cars Land is just to big to have in two places. Let alone the same continent.

None of this has been officially confirmed by Disney. From what I've heard is that they are going to start construction this fall, so tearing LMA, Backlot, Indiana Jones and Backlot Express down. Like everyone said, Studios needs an update since nothing has really changed since it opened. The Hat is also getting torn down as well since that was never a permanent part of the park. Carsland would be a couple rides themed after cars. A couple adult rides along with a few kiddie rides since there really isn't anything for younger guests that can't ride Tower, Coaster or Star Tours since those have height requirements.

OMG Up! ride??? That would be SO fun! Great idea's Kat! Disney needs to take a look at this forum to see what the people really want!

I agree on the whole Carsland thing. It would be much better to do a Pixar Land... But updates are needed for this park... It's become my least favorite.. There's not much to do there... And it is pretty confusing when you walk around... And I noticed the Backlot Tour closed early last time we were there also... And was upset about it... Good things to come, IMO.

Oh no! Backlot Tour was closed last time we were there so I was hoping hubby would get to ride it on our next trip. Darn sad

I agree with ya Doc, I never saw any problem with the hat it self, heck it's Mickey's Sorcerer hat. I think the problem people have with it is the view that it blocks, which never bothered me either.

There are rumors of the Hat being relocated outside where the Sorcerer Mickey topiary usually is but is currently the MU topiary from Flower and Garden. The Hat was never supposed to be permanent and was only put in for the celebration of Fantasia's 60th anniversary I believe. They are doing a massive refurb with Muppets this year. I definitely think that Studios is getting an update soon because they want better numbers in the back of the park and they want to put in more family rides that don't require a certain height to ride or have it very low like 35in. There are only two rides for the whole family at HS. The rest have a height requirement.

More family rides is good news for us motion sensitive folks! Looking forward to the changes - it does seem like there is a lot of under used space there. awesome

The (very controversial) Sorcerers Hat was installed as part of the 100 Years of Magic celebration in 2001 to celebrate what would have been Walt Disney's 100th birthday.

Up literally sounds epic. Good idea, guys.

If hat is going down, that's a little sad. Hope it's replaced by something to represent the park.

That's the only problem with DHS. Least family andoriented than any other park. Very, very little to do there with kids short of the height limit on Star Tours. Plus, GMR is not at all exciting for kids, as it shows that few scenes that I know, none the less kids who are younger.

I don't think anything is going where the Hat is once it's taken down. I've heard that the water tower will be the park's icon again.

Hey Mandy! I was reading on another message board that this could be the last year for Osborne Lights. Have you heard anything about that directly or is it just an assumption based on expansion rumors? I can't imagine that they would get ride of one of their largest draws of the year.

Omigosh, really, they might ditch the Osbourne Lights? Oh, I hope this isn't true!

Don't you guys feel like maybe they should just tinker with things a LITTLE bit, instead of changing SO much at once? I mean tearing down the Hat, taking away Indiana Jones, LMA, etc., that's kind of a lot of changes as once for people to handle.

(First world problems, I know...) Wink

But, if they're expanding the Pixar and Star Wars stuff, I say, Bring it on! (But leave The Muppets, please!) Smile

Maybe that is why I never minded the hat, because I never thought of the hat as the park icon. I always thought of the water tower and those huge ears when I thought of Hollywood Studios.

Kristen, I don't think they would get rid of the light either, but, you never know. But I cant believe a word the other forums say really, they do nothing but complain most of the time anyway.

I hear a LOT of rumors Nancy - many which never pan out, so don't be upset until it happens!
