How many ADRs should I make...

This is will be my first real trip to disney world. I went once as a kid for two days and then again for two days 5 years ago. The wife and I decided we want to make a real trip and stay for 6 days the second week in december (sun thru fri). We are getting deluxe dinning just because I would rather not have to count "points" and eat when and where we feel like it. My quetion is how important are ADRs? We are not pickey eaters and have no problem eating at off times. I plan on making dinner reservations each day. Would you recommend making lunch and breakfast reservations also? Is it possible to walk into resteraunts and get a table? Can you call that morning and get a table? I know the most popular ones you won't be able to but how about the lesser know ones?

Also what are the must see resteraunts? We are not foodies so uniqiue experience would rate higher for us then food quality. So far I know I want to hit Hoop-Dee-Do, Sci Fi Cafe, Cinderella's Royal Table, 50's Prime Time Cafe.

Thanks for the help!

Dan

I would say if you know for sure you want to eat somewhere, make an ADR. Sometimes you can walk up and get in but sometimes you can not. We usually make them for breakfast and dinner. I would make them for all of the restaurants you have listed.

I think ADRs are super important. Getting a table on the fly depends on the park you're in and the time of year you're there. I know that deciding where to eat 6 months out seems extreme, you just have to remember that you can always change your ADRs as your trip gets closer if you think you want to. However, making them 6 months out means that you know you have something, especially important when traveling at busier times of the year.

I usually make breakfast and dinner ADRs for most every day. There are some great breakfast options as well as dinner.

Here are some of my favorite "experience" restaurants, they also have pretty good food:

Ohana @ the Polynesian Resort (breakfast or dinner)
Whispering Canyon Cafe @ Wilderness Lodge (breakfast or dinner)
Liberty Tree Tavern @ Magic Kingdom (lunch or dinner)
California Grill @ Contemporary resort (dinner)
Cape May Cafe @ Beach Club (breakfast)
Akershus Royal Banquet Hall @ Norway, Epcot (breakfast)
Biergarten @ Germany, Epcot (lunch or dinner)
Yak & Yeti @ Animal Kingdom (lunch or dinner)

Also, remember that signature dining experiences (worth 2 points) will probably fill up quickly.

Dan, first off let me welcome you to WDWFG. You're list although short is good but if you're looking for unique I would also add Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge, it comes highly recomended. I also would recomend ADR's for you're "most wanted" locations, better to be safe than sorry.

I would definately make ADR's! We had 1 credit each that we had no planned for yet and when I started looking while we were there as to where we could use it, nothing I wanted was available. Like Kristen said, it does seem crazy to pick out your meals 6 months in advance but it is definately worth it if you're going to spend the money on a dining plan!

I agree with making ADRs.

You will need to add a credit card number for Cinderella's Royal Table and Hoop Dee Doo Review. When you make your ADRs, check the box that says "I want to use Disney Dining Plan" (or something like that). I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) you will get charged for CRT and HDDR if you don't. The credit card is used to hold the reservation. If you don't show up, then you will get charged.

I'll say welcome first and secondly, like everyone else, make the ADR's . You won't have to worry then.

Better to play it safe. Go for the ADR's. You have some good picks! Some of our favorites are Liberty Tree Tavern, Biergarten in Germany, Ohana, Whispering Canyon, and Restaurant Marrakesh in Morocco.

I always say it's better to book now and cancel later if need be.

I've done a few 'walk up' reservations and it's been very hit and miss. I got a table quickly when I walked up to Ragland Road in DTD, but for The Plaza in MK we had to sit outside for over an hour waiting for our beeper to go off! I vowed never to risk it again, especially for ones that we really really enjoy.

When will you be travelling to WDW? This can play a big part in your bookings. Busier times of year will make it harder, especially for the popular and signature dining locations, this is when you need to hit the 180 days window on the dot! At Quieter times of year you will probably be ok booking closer to the time, but still, for popular and signature (especially CRT) you will be wanting to book at the 180 day mark.

You can make reservations whilst you are there, we've done this quite a few times through the in-room phone or at concierge, these are also where to go for cancellations or if you want to try moving your pre-booked slot etc.
