I got a Magic Bands letter

I'm wondering if I should even bother. I'm going for a quick four day trip. I have my ADRs, no dining plan, I have annual passes. I hear about a lot of problems with them. What is the upside of getting them?

If I lock in a ride time with them, then don't show up- does that preclude me from getting a regular paper fast pass? Can you use them at the park to get fast passes or do you have to lock in your rides in advance?

I should have studied more. Now I'll have to cram.

To access fastpass+ you have to have park passes linked up to the band. so for you, you would be using it to access your room from the sounds of it.

Actually, you can link your AP to the Magic Bands and use FP+ if you'd like. It's super convenient just to tap and go, otherwise, there's no real bonus to them.

The HM in MK no longer issues paper Fast Passes, they only do MB's.

If you schedule a Fastpass on the band, and don't use it or show up, as soon as the time passes, you can schedule another one.

We had 3 scheduled for MK the first morning, and when we walked up to the first one to use it, the CM said "Hey, there is no wait right now. If you don't use the FP, you can schedule another."

So that's what we did. We walked on to the first 2 I had scheduled, so I pulled it up on my phone and scheduled more for later in the day.

P.S.

We had no issues with our bands. They worked perfectly. Used them for our room, park tickets, fast passes, purchases and DDP. Never had an issue. I loved them.

I would say you might as well get them now because, since you are an annual pass holder you will definitely have to have them in the next few months.

I am also an annual pass holder. When I called the annual pass holder number they told me that once testing is over all annual pass holders will have a magic band too. It will be linked to our annual pass and it will have nothing to do with staying at a Disney Resort. My husband and I never stay on site and we've never had a dining plan, but we will still get magic bands sometime in the coming months, they said probably by the spring.

I was also told that as annual pass holders, once we get a magic band, we will have that magic band until our annual pass expires.

SO would that mean that once our annual passes expire, we can pick a new color for our next ticket media? I wonder if we could also elect to keep them and have new admission media added to them indefinitely.

I hadn't even considered this possibility. Wicked awesome.

I did not ask this specific question, but I would think that once the current year expires we'll have to get a new one for each year.

Disney doesn't know if you will renew your annual pass once it expires. So for all they know, you're not going to get another annual pass and you threw away your magic band the day it expired. eek
I think they will have to give us new ones each year.

To be sure, instead of renewing the day your AP expires, just buy a whole new AP later when you need it. That way they have to give you a new one. That's what we'll be doing yay

The magic bands were great for getting into the room. Especially if you have full hands. I felt like they slowed the admittance lines down a little verse the old keys to the kingdom but not drastically. The whole fast pass plus vers fast pass touring difference was an adjustment for us.

We're AP holders and booked a 4 day trip starting Christmas day at the Wilderness Lodge. Got an e-mail after booking to use the Magic Bands through the resort , and just got a letter in mail to use them as AP holders , so decided to give it a try. Looking forward to see how they work. I know it's supposed to be a trial period , but last month on a day trip to the Food & Wine at Epcot , it seemed that more people than not had them on.
