I Opened Tokyo Disneyland a Half Hour Early!!

I had completely forgotten about this story until my sister reminded me a few days ago - I figured you all would get a kick out of it.

So the year I was turning 16 (many moons ago), my sister was living in Japan, and my parents sent me to visit her as a sweet-16 present. Her gift to me was to go to Tokyo Disneyland for New Years. We had a room at this really weird hotel - If you ever played the game series "Myst" - it was decorated like that. The ticket for the park were from like 5 pm to 6 am the next day, so we headed out early to be there when the park opened.
Now, here in the US when we are waiting, we all stand around in a crowd waiting. Apparently in Japan, everyone brings blankets and some food and basically sits down and has a picnic. This was actually kinda nice - no sore feet! - but I wasn't used to sitting on concrete for hours.
So about a half hour before the park is scheduled to open, I decide to stand up and stretch my legs. I should also point out that I was very blond at the time, and I think that we were the only non-Japanese people waiting there, so I guess I stood out a little.
Well, apparently since I broke the social convention of standing up, and I stuck out like a sore thumb, I guess some people thought I knew something that no one else did. All around us, people started to pack up their picnics and start standing up and heading for the gates. There is also a difference in Japan in what they consider "personal space" - if you've ever heard about crowded subway trains in Tokyo, it's not a joke - my sister only stayed with me because she grabbed the loop on my backpack and held on for dear life.
So now we were in the middle of this giant crowd all pushing towards the gates. This all happened in like 3 mins flat. The CM's start making announcements asking everyone to sit back down and wait for the park to open, but no one listened and more and more people start making their way to the gates. Finally, they announce that park would open early and I realized that I had basically started the whole thing by standing up.

So yeah, I made Tokyo DL open a half hour early by having a sore backside.

I didn't mean it, I swear!!! I'll serve some hard time down in WDW if needed however Smile

It was a ton of fun there - but really weird. Everything is in Japanese (obviously) and it was really strange to not know what anyone was saying, but being completely cheerful the entire time... Haunted Mansion was hilarious in Japanese actually.
One thing that really sticks out in my mind, is that we got these "Egg Rolls" from some little kiosk. We were thinking of like spring roll type things... Nope, they were filled with something like egg salad. They were delicious, just not what we were expecting.

OMG.... you just made me remember a joke done by Gabriel Iglesias...

"You haven't lived until you have been stopped by a freakin man with a badge in the shape of a mouse!"

What an awesome story! So, is the narration in the Tokyo HM the deep voiced man, like here?

I know what you mean about personal space, thought I think it's worse in Asia than even in Europe. In Paris, I definitely encountered that, people standing much closer to me than I was comfortable with.

Great story Smile I'm assuming that it had weird hours like that because it was New Years....they aren't like that all the time
