If you had to choose, Osbourne Lights or 'Ohana?

Hi friends,

We've come up on a bit of a dilemma for our November trip.

Benn is spending one night at WDW in November at the end of my "friends" trip before we leave for Port Canaveral to do a short cruise. I made a reservation for 'Ohana that night at 6:30 because that's Benn's favorite restaurant and I think that my friends will really like it, too. Benn also loves the Osbourne Lights, so I'm trying to make that happen also since this will be his only opportunity to see them before they go away.

Because of other trips that we have planned for next year, we would be buying Benn an AP and activating it in March anyway. After the 2016 meet-up, we will most likely let our AP's expire and do some other Disney vacationing in 2017. So activating Benn's AP early and "wasting" a park day is basically a non-issue.

Benn's flight will land at 4:50pm. I've checked with Magical Express and they've informed me that he will have no trouble getting on the Poly bus instead of the SSR bus so that he can make our 6:30 'Ohana reservation.

If we eat at 'Ohana at 6:30, I see no realistic way that we can make it to DHS for an 8:00pm close--even though we will have access to a car. The only possibility would be if we were seated early and I feel like that's not a thing that will happen.

I'm trying to move the 'Ohana reservation, but we all know the chance of success on that front and I'm not about to feed into the 'dining reservation finder' business that hoards all of the most popular ADR's. I figure if Benn takes ME to Boardwalk and walks to DHS, he should be at the park entrance around 6:15-6:30. If we have a 7:30 or later reservation and we drive, we can see the lights first and then continue on to dinner at 'Ohana. That's what I'm trying to do, but...

If you had to choose between dinner at your favorite restaurant (and a meal that others in your party have never experienced and are looking forward to) and seeing a show or attraction that you loved that was likely going away forever, which would you choose?

To me, this would be an easy decision. You can always book again at O'Hana, but you won't have another chance to see the lights at DHS. I would go to Hollywood Studios and see the lights.

I would absolutely choose the lights. You could find a meal somewhere else that your friends will love and you can book O'Hana on a later trip. You will never, ever see the lights again!!!

Send the other people in your party to 'Ohana without you.

I'd say see the Lights! I bet if you explain to everyone why you decided to do the Lights they would understand. There is always this option that CCP has suggested! I am so bummed that this is the last year for the lights and even more bummed that I will not have the opportunity to see them before they are gone.

I know I'm in the minority because I just cannot find the appeal of the Osbourne lights. Having said that, I think I would probably choose the last chance to see something I liked over a restaurant that will still be there on the next trip.

I'm hanging onto the reservation for now and hoping that I can find someone who has a later time from the November Disney trips Facebook page will be interested in trading with me! I asked Benn which he preferred and he's actually really torn. He pointed out that growing up in his mother's house was kind of like living in a smaller, tackier version on what the Osbourne house must have been like. LOL. The rest of us will be able to see them earlier in the week, so it's truly only for Benn's benefit that we would go again on Thursday night. Of course, if we get a late enough reservation, we could maybe even catch Fantasmic, which we will otherwise miss due to ADR's on our other park nights. Bonus.

I vote definitely lights. If your friends see them earlier in the week, let them keep the O'hana reservation if you want and you and Benn go to the lights and do your own dinner somewhere equally as spectacular (Brown Derby?)

The lights for sure. Ohana is gunna be around for a while still (hopefully) - but if this is your last chance for the lights, you gotta do the lights!

Lights, but keep checking the Ohana, they have late night seatings, I have done them and they are nice! Go to lights then back to Ohana.

crossfingers Hoping and continuing to try!!

There's also a slim chance that park hours could be extended at DHS. Apparently it has already happened for dates in October and my week in November sounds like it's gearing up to be more crowded than usual. (Who ever thought I would be excited about higher than expected crowds??? LOL)

Also- if you get to DHS 10 minutes before closing, you can walk around OL for an hour and no one will bother you

6:30 'Ohana ADR. What do you think? Can we make it to DHS by 7:50 without feeling rushed at 'Ohana if we have a car?
