Inside Out

I don't see a general thread for Inside Out reviews and reactions, so here goes!

We saw the new Pixar film tonight. First of all, we loved the short "Lava" at the beginning. It was very sweet and sentimental with a beautiful underlying emotional message about taking care other and inspiring people.

We both thoroughly enjoyed Inside Out. Like I posted on Facebook, if you're over the age of 12 and this movie doesn't make you cry, you'd better check to make sure that you have a soul! It's full of feels. It's a very well written story with great insight into thought and personality. You can tell that the story development team really did their homework to make sure that the characters were try to the emotions that they were supposed to represent without being on dimensional.

My only criticism (and it's minor) is that because of the need to develop characters in this film, the action drags a bit at times. As a result, the youngest audience members seemed to get distracted.

All in all, a great film that was left wide open for a sequel or five. I hope to see some cool new pin sets for this movie.

I loved the preview I saw of this while at Epcot. The adults in the audience were cracking up. Will see this as soon as I can!

I saw Inside Out the other day and I quite liked it. Anger was my favorite character. I was unfamiliar with Lewis Black beforehand but the night before I saw Inside Out, I watched his standup comedy clips and I have to say he was cast perfectly. The guy truly knows how to be angry and funny at the same time. My favorite line from Anger was, "Congratulations San Francisco, you've ruined pizza! First the Hawaiians, and now YOU!" I also admit being unfamiliar with Phyllis Smith being that I never really watched The Office. I heard of Amy Poehler (Joy) and Bill Hader (Fear) from watching SNL clips and Mindy Kaling (Fear) from friends and social media. I just have to say that everyone was perfectly cast.

It was a compelling story as I anticipated and yeah, I do think Fear, Disgust, Anger and maybe even Riley could've had more screen time and development. But it had a great chunk of everything and made you feel just about every emotion in the book. There weren't any particular parts I disliked so that's a good sign. I think the main message of the film resonates more with older kids and adults than it does for young children. Life isn't easy because it's all about changes and they can occur so rapidly that it becomes overwhelming. The important thing is to have a support system of people who are empathetic, compassionate and caring that will be by your side to pick you up when you're down.

But in all honesty, I can see it being hard to understand for younger kids since I overheard whispers from young children asking a lot of questions to their parents at my screening.

As for the Lava short, I just thought it was meh. Not my favorite but not particularly bad.

I've had the song from Lava in my head for the past week! Really cute short...probably not my absolute favorite, but very enjoyable. Meg and I saw a pre-screening called Inside Access to Inside Out, which included a couple extras (video tour of Pixar Studios and live interview/Q&A after the movie with Amy Poehler and the director). The whole thing was really entertaining and we loved the movie. The concept was great, we laughed, we cried...very "Pixar"!

Now I need to start a campaign for an update of Cranium Command using these characters...anyone else with me?

DH and I went this past weekend to see IO and I took the 8 year old little girl that I am a Nanny for to see it yesterday. We all loved it. My 8 year old exclaimed it's the greatest movie she's ever seen, and she's seen many! DH and I both thoroughly enjoyed it too. It's not action packed and children under 6 may get bored off and on, but I really enjoyed it. It is the most emotional I've gotten at an animated movie since UP.

I really enjoyed Lava too. My 8 year old said it was OK but a little boring. I think most kids will feel that way about Lava. They won't mind sitting through it but it's probably not going to be a highlight for younger kids.

Yay finally saw it and LOVED it, even though I bawled through about the entire thing. Makes you want to hold your little ones close and never let them grow up!
