This issue of D23

So as a Disney lover I subscribe to D23 yearly for the insightful articles and exclusive pictures. I came home today and saw my big blue box containing my newest issue, squealed with joy, and promptly ran inside and tore it open. After it was open......I threw it on the floor, and came on here to vent my anger to people who would understand! I pay like $80 bucks to subscribe to DISNEY23 and they send me an entire issue about Marvel and the Avengers?! That's not acceptable! I will never consider Marvel characters as Disney and they need to realize that when we pay that much for four magazines, we are going to be pissed! Ugh. I'm throwing it away because I am so mad! Then they sent an avengers patch to be ironed on to my tshirt....REALLY? yuck mad

I'm sorry that you're so disappointed. I had to cancel my charter D23 membership when my husband lost his job earlier this year, so I won't get a blue box of joy anymore. However, I don't think that I would have had the same reaction as you did.

Disney as a company has always been meant to grow and change, to embrace the creativity of many genres and explore the possibilities for tomorrow. I am not a Marvel "Fan" but I understand what it means to have the collection added to the Disney archives and I welcome what they're doing with it.

D23 as an entity was created to embrace all of the facets of the company, from the history of it's beginnings to what's new and current today. You may not consider Marvel as part of Disney, but it is, and if you're also a shareholder (as many Disney fans are) you have to appreciate the bank it brings. There are many fans that are thrilled from both communities. Alas, there are also fans from both communities that are not happy. No one can make everyone happy all of the time, not even Disney.

You're welcome to ship your copy to my house Smile

I can accept the grow and change part, but not with Marvel. Lol It just reminds me of Universal, not Disney. Ill happily ship my copy.

Ahhhh it's a Universal thing. I always think of Marvel as an entity of their own, they were around for so long before Universal tried to do something with them. But we've got comic fans in our house as well as Disney fans. I think Disney is doing a much better job nursing the franchise back to health. Universal sort of cheaped it out and ran it into the ground. I can totally understand if that's your concept of it why you wouldn't want it to be associated withe Disney.

I guess I see it as Disney is rescuing and refurbishing a classic American Brand that had gotten lost and was in decline. I'm with you though, if I suddenly saw Daffy Duck standing next to Donald, I may stroke out right there. I would find that very upsetting.

Ah, ChipnDale, I'm so sorry! That must have been tough. I hope that the next issue comes and is totally vintage Disney for ya Smile

LOL! That would have been hysterical! It was more like an angry, frowny face drop and a stompy walk over to the couch to talk to all of you!

Don't get me wrong- I love super heroes, superhero films, and even have some comics....I just don't like my issue revolving entirely around them lol. I could handle and half and half issue maybe. lol

I can understand your disapointment, and I like the Marvel Super Hero's. I dropped my sub because everthing was revolving around Disney Land when it first started until I dropped it. Is it getting any better with Disney World info? I don't recall any D23 stuff in WDW yet, but maybe I'm mistaken. Everthing used to be in Disney Land.

There have been some awesome articles not revolving around parks, but Disney history. A whole issue on the history of their animation and a whole issue on walt disney. It was great last year!

But yeah... as my wife said. I would gladly take it off your hands! Like Kristen said... I see this as Disney rescuing a property that needed it so desperately. I wish people didnt look on this so negatively. After the Avengers movie... any Marvel movie's profit goes to Disney. This will be HUGE. Especially with the announcement of Avengers sequel for 2014. If people dont like the idea of Marvel... thats fine... but see this as getting a free dessert somewhere. Its going to be an added bonus. And for me owning stock in Disney... only makes me happier! LOL

There were a whole bunch of D23 events in Florida last year, from small meet ups to full fledged ticketed events. Yes, the first year had a lot of Disneyland, but they do seem to be growing and changing the things that are offered to meet the fan base.

I'm not upset about Disney owning Marvel- I loved the Avengers and superheroes. I just don't want an entire issue based on it. lol
