Hey!! So I've been back a month and am just now getting to my trip report. It's been kind of crazy and I've been very lazy (probably more the latter than the former). I know you all have just been on the edge of your seat WAITING for JMUDUKZ's trip report for the Wine and Dine Half!! I still have so many of your trip reports to catch up on! Can't wait to get the pixie dust flowing again, I need some Disney in my life!
BTW, speaking of JMU Dukes, anyone catch the Marching Royal Dukes kicking off the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade??!! I have a video of the fight song, if anyone missed it and needs their fix of purple and gold!! And now....on to the show!!
Thursday, November 7 - This trip my sister went with me,which was nice. We definitely had a good time. However, it started REALLY early Thursday morning with an 830 flight. She's not a morning person at all, and kept complaining that we should have taken a later flight. It took her a while to realize that a later flight cut into our Disney time!! Unacceptable!! We hopped on board our plane, which was PACKED, pushed back from the gate, and came to a stop (I would say screeching halt, but that seems a tad dramatic. We just stopped moving). Some light was on in the cockpit, so we were delayed while the mechanics fixed it. Ultimately, the delay wasn't TOO bad, but as we stretched from 15 into 30 minutes, I snuck out my phone and started checking out our FP+ times to see if we needed to reschedule. I glanced over at the woman sitting next to me, she was doing the same!! Fortunately, we were on our way and ended up arriving only a few minutes late, so no harm done. However, crappy transportation was definitely the theme of the trip.
We arrived at MCO and hauled off to the Magical Express!! Woohoo!! And we were off!! Well, kind of. We had a LONG wait for the ME, and then we were the very last stop. The driver was awful. He would accelerate and then brake. Accelerate. Then brake. By the time we pulled onto Disney property, I was fighting to keep my breakfast down, I was so motion sick. But there we were!! Kidani Villas!! OMG, breathtaking lobby. We were greeted by a CM and escorted in right away. She checked us in lickety split (seriously, she has our check in completed by the time my sister got her carry on from underneath the bus!). And we got a wonderful surprise! I had rented points to reserve a standard room but we were upgraded to a savannah view!! Double woohoo!! Next order of business before we could check out the view from the room was linking my sisters PH to her Magic Band. While she was doing that, I walked out to the savannah overlook. There was a baby zebra out there running around with his parents (or his siblings - not really sure!). Finally Ash was all checked in and we were off to our savannah view room!!!
Picture of the inside of the lobby - I forgot to get any of the outside!!
The baby zebra chasing its friends!
Kissin' Ankola Cattle
Both of us expected to have a really long walk to our room, but we both commented that the walk wasn't all that bad (we would later change this to "did they move our room to Siberia" at 5am after the W&D Half). The room was super cute. We did indeed have a savannah view, but we were the absolute last room overlooking the savannah. But we had a great view of the Red River Hogs (I kept yelling PUMBA!) as well as the Nylas and the Ankola cattle, as well as the buzzards (blech!! Ugly birds!!). We spent some time taking pictures of the room and the animals, settling in and finding the hidden mickeys!!
View from our balcony!
Are you achin'? Yup yup yup! For some bacon? Yup yup yup!
I have to say, the room was pretty small, but very adequate for two people. It had a queen size bed (which I slept on most nights) and a sleeper sofa (which wasn't too bad, I slept there the last night, giving my sister the actual bed out of the kindness of my heart!!). The bathroom was HUGE and continued the animal theme everywhere. The kitchenette came in handy; LOVED having an actual coffee pot, as opposed to one of those little hotel coffee pots!!
The room! Love the colorful comforter!
So after settling in, we reviewed the schedule. On our 2012 trip, my sister claimed that I caused her to miss out on a lot of stuff, like the Dinoland in AK, and some of the parade. In reality, we all know you can't do all of Disney in one trip, so it really wasn't my fault BUT to shut her up - I mean, to make amends - I allowed her to plan the trip this go around. Up first was DHS and the Osbourne Spectacle of Dancing Lights!! And here we hit a snag....OSDL didn't start until Friday!!! Whomp whomp. So quick consultation with the times guide and the plan was changed to hitting DHS for our FP+ and then hopping over to MK for the parade and fireworks. With the new plan in place, we were off!!
We arrived at DHS starving and right within our window for our ToT FP+. The question was eat and then drop or drop and then eat?? We decided to play it safe and ride the ToT then find some snacks. I love that ride. After ToT we went on a serious hunt for some snacks. And we found some!! Mickey shaped pretzels and Pumpkin cupcakes with maple frosting. The pretzel hit the spot. The cupcake was also good, but they took it straight from the fridge and it was a bit chilly, which made the frosting really stiff and kind of greasy. I'm sure if we had been patient and waited for it to come to "room" temperature, it would have tasted much better, but oh well. We ate it anyway!!
We are VERY hard to spot in this picture. We don't stand out at all!
Pumpkin cupcake with maple icing
Everything tastes better when its shaped like Mickey!!
We did some window shopping as we strolled in the direction of our next FP at TSMM. The wait was 90 minutes, but we sashayed past with our golden tickets. My sister beat my pants off at the game. I swear, we had a defective car and my side was broken. The CMs thought I was nuts as I complained about the defective car. We had over an hour to kill before our final FP at Rockin Roller Coaster, so we did a little shopping. My sister found a couple of pins she liked. We wandered over to Starring Rolls, which was closed, but we peeked in anyway to see if there was anything that we needed to come back for! A very nice CM saw us and suggested a couple of other locations for cupcakes, but we were set on the Writer's Stop and headed over there for a carrot cake cookie. I got the cookie and my sister had the mickey brownie. The brownie was awful (cute, but awful). The cookie on the other hand....OMG. Awesome. They were nice enough to find boxes for both of our treats so we could take them with us (since we were still all sugared up from the maple/pumpkin cupcake!). We road the RNR and then hit the road for the TTC and then finally the MK!!
Here we are!
We took the monorail from the TTC to the MK. The cars were really crowded, but that made for some great eavesdropping. There was a family from Hawaii in our car, and another family from Florida. The young mother of the Florida family was telling the family from Hawaii about her uncle who lives in Hawaii but "wants to move back to America". Um. Please ask Santa for a map for Christmas!!! But I digress.
We hit the MK at warp speed. We busted up Main Street, taking a few minutes for photo ops, and then took a left into Adventureland. As we wound into Frontierland, we found a primo parade spot and staked our claim. Unfortunately, we miscalculated the direction of the Main Street Electric Parade and ended up sitting for much longer than we had anticipated. But we got good pictures. That's such a fun parade. I was trying to get up higher to take some pictures of the parade and a woman offered me her spot standing on the wooden structures that surround the trees. I thought that was really nice, but she told me she'd seen the parade 800 times and didn't need to see it again!! Well okay then.
Hard to see, but it's a Mickey ornament out of flowers!!
First glimpse of Christmas Castle!
Caution! Lots of Castle pics coming...
After the parade, we had 14 minutes before the fireworks, which is on the list of things my sister claimed I made her miss last year. We were also starving again, the pretzels and cupcakes had long since worn off. We dashed into Pecos Bill. I ordered the deluxe burger and she got the pulled pork. By the time our food came, we had about 7 minutes to eat it and still make the fireworks. The food was AWESOME for theme park fast food, and I so wish we'd had longer to savor it. But down it went and out we go to find a spot in Liberty Square to see the fireworks.
After the Fireworks we squeezed our way in towards the Castle for Celebrate the Magic. The Christmas add on for Celebrate the Magic really is nice and just sets the spirit of the season. We ooo'd and ahhh'd. I could watch it 1000 times.
Hey Walt!
We decided to take the long way out of the park, and by the long way, I mean past Aloha Isle. Dole Whip nightcap?? Yes please!! I've decided next time I go, I want to get a Dole Whip in Sprite float. It's not on the menu, but I think they'd make it for me (a coke float is on the menu, so I can't imagine it would be an issue). We polished off our treats and headed for the buses. We got to the queueing area and man, the lines were miles long!! We had a quick moment of dismay until we realized those were the lines for the value resorts!! The lines for AKL were super short! It's official, I'm now a Deluxe resort snob. Staying at Pop in February is going to be torture after Kidani!!
I have over 500 pics from this trip and 1000 from the last. I won't kill you with all of them, but if anyone wants to see them, they are on FB, send me a PM and I'll give you the contact info.
Day 2 was AK, Packet Pick up and Epcot! Stay tuned!!
