Legoland Florida Slide Show

The big announcement was made yesterday about Legoland's taking over Cypress Gardens ( sad ). Found these photos from the press conference.

They're cool, but I'm sad to see Cypress Gardens go.

Thanks, SpaceAce. Those are great photos. Have you seen the new article: Will legoland help or hurt disney?

I hadn't seen it. Thanks for posting. I think Disney will always prevail as the main draw for the Orlando area, but I agree that Legoland might add to the appeal for folks with little kids. I bet it'll be more of a local thing, though.

I've been to legoland in the UK and the theming is pretty good (if not quite up to Disney standards). This could make a good stop-off for those driving to/from the area in the same way that Gatorland or Kennedy does now.

I think it's a must-do with kids.

When I was a kid we visited London and went to a 5 story toy store (I never could remember the name, I just always called it "the five story toy store.") While we were there we saw all these lego trains that I hadn't seen anything like in the US. I was SO jealous. Do you think you guys had/have better access to lego stuff in the UK because you're closer to the source? I suspect that's less of an issue now, but I bet back then it made a difference.

It was probably http://www.hamleys.com/ one of the most famous toy stores in the world.

Lego has been big across most of Europe since since the late 1950's, I can remember there being loads of different kits available when I was a kid in the 70's and Lego Technix was all the rage. I wouldn't have a clue about it's availability in the US at the time.

James May (of Top Gear fame) has done a TV series looking at classic toys including Airfix, Scalextric, Hornby, Mechanno and Lego where he creates giant versions of the toys. For the Lego episode he built a life size house from lego bricks. If the series gets shown in the USA it will be one to watch.

Wow, I'm not sure LEGO had landed in the US that early. Or maybe we just weren't paying attention. I've always lived in the Midwest, so maybe they just hadn't gotten to us yet. We had a special where James May flew in a "space plane." I bet we get the toy thing sooner or later if we haven't already.

I have to say though that while I love half the shows on BBCA, you guys have some crazy ideas of pop-comedy. Obviously you have great humorists who make the shows we see on PBS, but some of these comedies on BBCA are atrocious. Just show more Top Gear, Gordon Ramsay and BBC News!

As a Brit you can make this happen, right Tony?

Don't forget Changing Rooms and Antiques Road Show!!!

Would love to see the James May lego special. Here's a hilarious article I found called "James May and His Full-Size Lego House Nobody Wants" with tons of great photos, including one of the lego sink and lego bed!: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1214729/James-May-size-Lego-house-wants.html

Wow! I'm pretty sure you could sell nights in that place, like a hotel. Or maybe it could be a great kids' birthday party spot!

We say similar things about some American comedies (Seinfeld anyone? waiting ). Most comedy sketch shows do nothing for me, but others seem to love them, If I had any influence over the BBC's productions they would be the first things for the chop.

Seems these days people are just trying to out-do one another with shock factor. Some shows, like LOST, take some imagination and planning, but the wealth of reality TV out there just shows us that people don't want to "think" about entertainment anymore.
