Maybe by June?!?!
I got this from KennythePirate: "This week the "media" will receive a special "sneak peek" at the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. These events are usually referred to as a "Grand opening," so it could mean that the rumors are true that the new ride's opening may be delayed until later this spring.
As a part of this sneak peek, the members of the "media" will be visiting the Magic Kingdom May 1 and 2 to learn about the new ride and get some tours and special parties. As a result of these events, parts of New Fantasyland may close early or experience a delayed opening to regular ticketed guests.
When I asked when the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will open, I received this boiler plate reply:
"We are putting the finishing touches on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and look forward to all our Guests being able to experience it later this spring when it officially opens."
Anyway, for reference, Expedition Everest, the last big coaster, opened for previews or soft openings on January 26, 2006 with its grand opening on April 7th of that year. So I would think somewhere around late May or early June would when "soft openings" begin with the grand opening a few months later. It's just my guess.
"All my life I wonder how it feels to pass a day, not above them but part of them.
And out there living in the sun, give me one day out there, all I ask is one to hold forever. Out there where they all live unaware, what I'd give, what I'd dare, just to live one day out there."
There's a good article and description of the ride on foxnews.com
I think WDW may have given pass holders a hint yesterday on facebook about the date that the ride is opening.
Yesterday on facebook there was a post from Disney World Passholders and it said, "We're looking for a few good miners, start your training today." It was accompanied by a picture of the 7 dwarfs standing outside the new ride and a link. I clicked the link and it took me to a little game on the Disney website called the 7 dwarfs mine train: get your dwarf name. It was about 10 questions and then it gave me my dwarf name. But the interesting part about all of this is after I got my name it said "You're hired, we'll see you in 14 days to begin training." It didn't say anything about an opening date, and this is all conjecture, BUT I thought that game might be a hint that the ride was opening in 14 days. I know that WDW had the press there on May 1 to ride and review the 7 dwarfs mine train.
I was curious if the days would countdown so I just checked the game again(after midnight) and it now says, "training begins in 13 days." So there is a countdown, but of course it may mean nothing at all! I really hope that this is Disney's cute way of telling people when the ride will open!
Official opening date has been released as 28th May and apparently if you go on MDE website (not app) you can book FP+ for this date onwards!!!

The press previews went well yesterday and today is the dedication ceremony. I am sadly watching from home like everyone else.

There is always the possibility of trial runs before the big opening day? i would still try fingers crossed Kathys
I agree - keep your eyes open for the soft openings.
What exactly does a soft opening mean? I'm picturing it like the ride opens for an hour at a random time of the day and if you're lucky enough to be walking by at that time, you'll get to ride. Can someone educate me on the typical process?
Yep - that's pretty much it.
It will be open on and off throughout the day as they test out capacity and get the cast trained. It is pretty much a luck of the draw thing.
Amy I have my fingers and tossed crossed because I truly want to do this ride.

Maybe there will be a "soft-opening" event during the Magic Kingdom All-Nighter on 23 May.
I'm hoping for any opportunity during our visit, we'll be in the parks 18-23 May.

Hoping for soft open for mid-May here, too! Otherwise I'll be camping the FP reservations at the 60 day mark to make sure we get one for September!! Who am I kidding--I'll be doing that anyway....

Fastpasses didn't disappear as quickly as I thought they would for it. I was able to book my boyfriend fastpasses for it May 28-June 2 all around 3:30-4:30. When I looked at the times available, I could of gotten him a fastapass anywhere from 9:30 am to park closing. I know this is just for one person, but when there are that many times available for one, there is usually a good amount left for larger parties. I booked them all the day after the announcement of the opening date.
We were at MK 5/17 & 5/18. They had the Seven Dwarfs mine train running almost all day with people on it, both days, but only cast members were allowed to ride. Both days we asked the CM's at the entrance about soft openings, and they said this is the only soft opening for now and the ride will open May 28. There were about 5 CM's each day standing at the entrance and they were all answering the same way. There really may not be a soft opening for the general public. The ride does look really fun though!
Thankfully, we'll be back at MK at the end of May and we already have our FP+ booked for 7DMT!
You'll have to fill us in Annie! Can't wait to ride this in September.
We also tried this weekend. I talked to someone who claimed to have spoken to someone who had been able to ride, but that's extremely thin evidence that a few regular guests may have gotten to experience this ride.

It's been all cast members to ride it recently. They still have a few things to work out before it opens. You would need a boarding pass and your cast member id to ride.

Have you been on it yet Mandy?
