Luau & Hoop-De-Doo

Anybody been to these recently? I haven't been to the Hoop-De-Doo in about five years and it's probably been ten for the Luau.

Just wondering if they're still drawing crowds.

As of last May 2008, Hoop De Doo was still drawing large crowds. And it is still as much fun as ever.

I hear a lot of people mention them, but I've never been to either. I'm losing my Disney cred with all these admissions, aren't I?

laugh Your secret is safe. That's why you are here. To be "educated"!

These two shows are really "Old Disney". I have to admit, there is a part of me that misses the "best kept travel secret" that was WDW when it first opened. I remember people asking me "why in the world I would spend so much time" at Walt Disney World when it was "for kids"?

Alas, now everyone found out about my secret! mickey

It does seem to be gaining wider and wider acceptance as an "adult" place as time goes on. That's a really good pic btw ZapperZ. One shot that gives you great insight into the event!

You know, I've never been to either....either! I've had ressies at Hoop dee doo a couple of times, but have always had to cancel.

Thanks for the pic, Z!

And MT, I'm still answering that question--"Why would you spend so much time at a place that's for kids?!?"

I went to the Luau once, about ten years ago but never the Hoop-dee-doo Revue. As far as I know, the Hoop-dee-doo is still quite popular and draws well. I don't think the Luau is that much of a draw, and if I'm not mistaken, they may have stopped doing it for a while before bringing it back.

I'm not sure I'd do the Luau again, but I would like to see the Hoop-dee-doo at least once.

What he said laugh

I thought the luau was great, but I also would like to do Hoop-dee-doo. Are they still doing three showings a night?

I attended to luau last year and it was a lot of fun. I would recommend seeing Lilo and Stitch before hand because the first few acts are based off the movie. The ending is the best because it's the full out Hula skirts and fire you would expect.

The food was kinda standard fair good but not great, except the Hawaiian bread, good stuff. They take your picture when you first get there and try to sell them to you during dinner (the photo package was the price of the show!!).

Those photo packages are outrageous. Disney sure does know how to sell you a memory! I think I had a splash mountain photo hanging around my house--complete with Briar Patch frame!!--for years that we never actually looked at.

Thanks for the update on the luau!

It's really hard to see people continuing to pay so much for photos in the age of digital photography. Generally I'd rather just have the bits so that I can do whatever I want with them later, rather than a "nice" photo I have to get home somehow without damaging.

They really get you on the Cruise Line as well. They take photos constantly, and then post them in the photo area where you can see them all printed and ready to take home.

The package prices are outrageous, and there must be a huge markup in this field as they're able to throw away a ton of photos every day that people don't purchase and still make it work.

I guess the big advantage to these services are that the photographers really do have superior equipment (compared to the average Joe), and when they take the photos the quality level is above what you and I could normally take.

Having said that, I do have a dozen or more 8X10's on my office wall that I just took with a simple digital camera that I sure as heck didn't pay those kind of prices for, and THEY look decent.

This is why I really dig the Photopass. They have the system, time to use it everywhere. Or better yet scan my magic key so all I have to worry about is 1 card. (Heck, this thing already has my credit card on it.)

How does that work?

The first time you get your photo taken in a park they give you a card. From then on give it to the park photographers and they just scan your card. Then when you get home go online and look at all the photos that were taken of you and buy the ones you like.

Good concept. What kind of prices do they put on them?

Photopass is really great. If I ever took enough photos to make it worth it I might very well use it.
