Why do you prefer those sports? Archery was cool in the olympics, I'll admit that. I play Tennis, but I really don't enjoy Fencing and the horses.
Hrmmm... that's an interesting question. Perhaps because I've done a lot of historical reenactment, and they are all very old sports. As a reenactor I've participated in most of them in early costumes and there's an elegance, an honor & courtliness to their origins. I enjoy the pomp and circumstance, dress codes, and protocol. I also like that they haven't been ruined by the "sports machine" in the way American football, baseball, and basketball has. Someone doesn't become an archer to have a multi-million dollar salary. They do it because it's their passion and their heart won't allow them to do anything else.
As far as the Rugby goes... well The All Blacks doing the Haka had me sold in a heartbeat. I don't really watch or follow any other team.
I actually really enjoy history as well. I love American History especially. They're all definitely have a long history, especially equestrian and rugby. And I definitely think the way media portrays those sports (I think they are the machine, more than the sports are, and I'm guilty as charged) is what can corrupt them for a lot of people. And I don't blame you for not watching them. All sports are great. I can get in to just about any sport if I sit down and watch it, haha. I'm addicted..
