Magic Bands

Very interesting, and I would assume that they come in a myriad of various colors.

Two questions:

1) How widely distributed are these at this point (they are replacing the KTTW, right?)
2) Do you get to keep them afterwards? My sister would find a way to scrap book them...

I hope you get to keep them. I wouldn't want a band with a strangers germs on it. Yuk!

I would like to see the band closed, but off the arm. I am interested to see how it latches. I am sure that there have been plenty of studies and trials to get to this point, but I still worry about losing it.

Wow, that's it? I will be petrified that I would lose it. Or my kids will lose theirs. I am sure it works with minimal issues, but if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all!

Right now they are testing on guests at AKL. I also know some AP holders who have gotten theirs. They are not on general distribution yet, but if the testing goes well that could change at any moment.

From what I've gathered, it appears that this is one of the big reasons that online check-in moved to 60 days in advance. Guests may be able to customize their MagicBands online and then they will (eventually) be shipped prior to vacation.

MagicBands will be per guest (not shared), customizable by choosing color and getting your name put on it, and should be able to be maintained over several vacations. Guests will eventually be able to purchase specialty themed bands (pirates, cars, tink, princess) in addition to the basic colors offered.

Press Note*** Disney has not released a full official information yet on distribution details and customization beyond this testing phase. The info you see out there on various websites has been cobbled together from nuggets of information released here and there. As with all things Disney it's subject to change, until this is fully rolled out to not take anything that anyone says about it as gospel truth. Rather as just a real good indicator of what's coming There is a press event this week (Thurs & Fri) Admin is there and will hopefully come back with all the latest and greatest information for us to share with you.

What a cool idea! Love it!

I think the grand idea is that these will track you and restrict access everywhere from pools, to refillabel mugs, to fast passes, reservations, room charges, room access, parking, bus use, monrail use, etc. I would think that in the future, every Disney guest will have one with everything on it. That would justify the billions spent in this project.

I'm not sure how I feel about it.

While not really a change in the Disney experience, this is likely leading to one of the biggest changes in Disney history. Keeps me intrigued. Hopefully getting another annual pass soon, so it will be interesting to see if it is more than a piece of paper.

They are so thick looking! For someone like me who can only go in summer that thing is gonna make for one sweaty wrist! Not a fan from first images....

I just hope they don't do away with the cards when/if they make the bands widely available. I would HATE to have to wear that thing around my wrist all day every day & it would be incredibly annoying to try & stash in a safe place & keep track of it if you chose not to wear it. The cards I can easily stick in a wallet & not have to worry about. Wouldn't even make getting in your room with your hands full any easier because you still have to actually open the door after unlocking it.

I doubt it will eliminate tickets all together. I'm hoping they are on/off easily because i don't like sleeping in any type of jewelry so that I'm a little leery of as well. Leaning on the door handle versus inserting a keycard then leaning is tops in my book. We tested the room keycards that you swipe versus inserting, it was nice not to have to play catch the green light on the door.

I stayed at Pop in January & you no longer insert a key card just tap it like you would these bands.

I'm not sure if our bands will be mailed to us before we leave. We did have to choose our FPs by the 14th and they sent me that invitation by UPS over night, it's our first stay at AKL.

We saw them being handed to select guests when we checked in at WL. I'm not sure if they had invitations or not.

I hope they just hold them we'll be there Friday. Woohoo Friday!!!
