Mardi Gras in Disney World

This year it falls on February 12th, one of my last days in WDW! I was wondering if anyone has ever been in the parks on Mardi Gras? Does WDW do anything special on this day? I've heard that it's a wonderful time to visit the parks because the crowds are extremely low.. I see that universal is doing something for Mardi Gras... But WDW makes no mention of any special parades or events. Thanks for the help! wink

I did quite a bit of research on this last year and there are no big celebrations of Mardi Gras at WDW. I even called down to POFQ resort when doing my research and only got a "It's Mardis Gras every day here." Thanks, no help what so ever desk!

Wow thanks! I definitely want to visit these two resorts while we are there and what better day to do it than Mardi Gras! I will have to snap more pictures of the parade and report back after our trip!

The resorts don't have a parade for Mardi Gras. They give out beads every day but no parades. Sorry if you read that bit. When we were the a couple of years ago there was no parade, golf carts or not.

I'm going to WDW for Mardi Gras 2013 and am looking for the same information. I live in New Orleans and can tell you that one of the better Marching Bands from New Orleans (Rummel) is getting bussed to Orlando to march up main street. Not sure of the details, but I am friends with one of the marching girl's dad and am planning to meet him in the parks. As far as I can tell, that's the only thing they do in WDW to celebrate Mardi Gras. I think they march on Monday and Fat Tuesday.

If you really want the Mardi Gras feel, just go to Epcot, drink too much and pass out in the open somewhere.

LOL! Maybe we will see you there! I know Universal does Mardi Gras... It might be cool to hang out in Port Orleans and French Quarter for a portion of the day.
