That's a raccoon. It's the first one I've ever seen wandering around in daylight in our neighbourhood. They can be quite a nuisance - no one's garbage is safe, and they get into your attics, etc. over the winter if you have trees overhanging your house. They are cute though.

She's a she. Here's a piece of trivia - 99.9% of calico/tortoiseshell cats are female, and 80% of orange cats are male. The same genetic coding causes both tendencies. And that's as much as I can tell you about it since I am no geneticist.
