Mom's 60th

My mother is turning 60 in June. She does not want any form of party. I've been trying to find a gift but she is so difficult. She hates jewelry, perfumes and plays (even though we are 15 minutes from NYC). I'm wondering if anyone has any gift ideas or suggestions! Thanks

Does she watch a lot of TV? DVDs of favorite shows can be good.

Hobbies?

She likes TV. We've given her seasons of her favorite shows. Her hobbies maninly consist of chasing my brother and I wherever we go or doing whatever we do!

Digital cameras are a good present for mom; especially if there are (or will soon be) grandbabies running around.

Not ready for those just yet! We gave her a digital for Christmas about 2 years ago. A simple point and shoot. And she still uses her film camera. Stubborn.

Sounds like she really likes to spend time with you guys -- if she has a favorite restaurant, you could give her "coupons" for meals out with you. (If you're not close by, you could always do actual gift certificates.)

Are there any magazines she loves? Subscriptions are an option.

Also, if you're near by, you could give her a "coupon" for running errands -- you'll do her grocery shopping for a month or something like that.

Another thing my mom LOVES is a massage -- maybe treat her to one?

Great ideas admin. In my experience mom loves this kind of thoughtful gift. I second the notion to make her a present. One of the best presents to make that I can think of is the old standby the coupon book. You can make coupons for whatever you think she'd like. If she doesn't get to spend as much time with you as she'd like simple things like dinner and a night out would be great. If you are closer and do see each other often enough, things like running some errands for her might be nice.

Great point -- she probably just wants to spend more time with you! biggrin

I think she might want LESS of me! LOL I'm 25 but I live at home. Costs are outrageous in NJ and many of us teachers are losing our jobs. Too much of an unstable time to move out! I may have to make some coupons even though she s stubborn and probably will insist on watching me shop! A massage would work for some normal moms but my mom isn't into any of that.....she even cuts her own hair! I may see if my brother will go take some professional pictures with me an dmaybe our dogs since my mom loves pictures most of all. I'malso thinking of getting her the personalized Disney birthday snowglobe since she loves Disney also.

The pictures idea is a great one. I might steal that for my mom this year... Smile

Yes, I don't like to mention I live at home! NJ is so expensive and jobs are scarce. Some of my friends are having difficulty so we all live home. I probably made it confusing. In the big family vacation post I mention having the fam. Splash M. photo at my place which is a less embarrassing way to sya my room! lol I said I'd get the TT photo from my mom and scan in because it's in her hoarder-like attic. lol

I just hate saying I still live home! laugh

Thanks for all of your ideas! I'll let you know what I do and how it works!

I love the pictures idea! She can cart 'em around and show everyone (my mom is famous for that...but she tends to cart around pictures of herself with the naked cowboy in Times Square instead of pictures of my brother and me...but...whatever).

(BTW: I think it makes a lot of sense to live relatively rent-free and sock some money away for the future instead of spending a lot of cash just to live in some tiny apartment somewhere. Seems like a rational, well-thought-out decision to me.)
