more fastpasses

So last week I was in the Magic Kingdom (yup, annual passed renewed, woohoo!!), and I noticed that several new fast pass options on some old rides. Pirates, Haunted Mansion, and even the Teacups have been added to the club (I think tomorrow land speedway was too, can't remember for sure though). Personally, I don't think this is a good thing. Non-fastpass holders on the haunted mansion are forced to go through the graveyard area, while the fastpass holders cannot. Pirate riders are directed down one end of the attraction if they have a fastpass. And really, the teacups? I think fastpass serve their purpose in some areas, but do we really need this many? Magic bands probably have something to do with this. It seems like overkill to me. Thoughts?

Almost every attraction now is going to have a fastpass+ entrance. If they didn't have fastpass distribution before, they will not have it. I think it is to give more options when the big rides aren't options. Although I'm not sure when Captain EO got fastpass distribution though.

confused They will NOW have it - or that will NOT have it?

Confused also....

I'm not sure I like the idea of every ride having a fastpass. It really sort of takes the spontaneity out of the day. I wonder what the rationale for it is. Crowd control?

Oh. And they can keep my fastpass for the Teacups. Blech!! yuck

Most rides like Voyage of the Little Mermaid, It's a Small World and Journey Into Imagination with Figment will have a fastpass+ entrance but you can't get a regular fastpass because they don't have the distribution machines. Rides like ToT, Peter Pan and Space Mountain will continue to have regular fastpasses for now but will also accept fastpass+. Does that make more sense?

I don't like this new fastpass +...I have not told my parents yet who are going in 1 week. They will not be happy about it. They are not tech savvy so for them, this will be difficult to preplan.

I like planning, but not so much to where I am pinpointing what rides I will ride at 10:20AM.

I agree completely! If this new system is to eventually replace the machines, then I'm not in favor. I don't want to have to pre-plan what park we'll be in on a given day, especially weeks in advance. Most often, we'll decide in the morning where we're going and then get Fast Passes once we are there. Planning is good, but I think one can go overboard with it. Sponteneity is half the fun of being at Disney World (and life in general really).

You can change your fastpass selections until you use them.

I feel the exact same way! It seems so weird to try to figure out what rides you're going to want to be at at a certain time. Ugh!

Yes, but if it's still one park per day and I use say Splash Mountain and then I decide to bust on over to Epcot, can I then change my Space Mtn FP to Soarin? From everything I've read, I'm SOL at that point and FP is not an option (without the machines). Unless the answer is yes, I'm STILL having to plan in advance. This system has some flaws. PLUS, it was always fun to walk up to some unsuspecting family and ask them if they'd like our Toy Story FPs for later that evening b/c we were heading to the pool!!

The only thing I like about it is say I'm going to be in HS, I can set a FP+ time to ride TSMM, without having to worry about being there for rope drop. At least that's how I understand that aspect of it to work?

I really hope they keep the current fastpass machines and have it kind of work in conjunction with FP+. So I can use my FP+ for Haunted Mansion, a parade spot, and a BOG reservation; then use regular FP for any rides that have them. That's the only way I'll be truly happy with it.

I don't think when you have opted in for fastpass+ that you're not supposed to use the paper fastpasses.

Okay, so the good news is I can Fastpass +!! Yeah!! I figured out my selections (3) for MK on two different days of my first trip. However, it won't let me FP any rides at any of the other parks. I can select the day, then it offers me the option to FP+ the MK, but the other parks tell me a valid park admission is required and some tickets in my party are not valid for that day. Anyone know why this is? Is FP+ limited to MK right now (I apologize if I've missed this in other posts....). I have a 2 day PH as part of my package (bought through runDisney's reservation center) and a MNSSHP ticket linked to my reservation. I plan to upgrade to an AP once I get there, so I didn't buy a longer ticket. Any thoughts?? I'm mostly stressed about the lines for the rides at the MK, so this works out so far, but I would like to know what I'm missing.

Here's hoping a Magic Band is next on the list of discoveries. NO idea why I want to try those so badly...

One other question not necessarily related to the above - do you have to have a valid resort package or a AP to FP+? I would assume so, as otherwise, what prevents me from reserving FP+ on just a random day? But then again, if I'm planning a trip and to buy a ticket while I'm down there, am I not able to use FP+? For instance, you don't need a resort package or even a ticket to make an ADR, so it's possible to stay offsite and buy tickets while you're down there and still make an ADR 180 day out. Will FP+ be the same? No worries if you don't have an answer, it just kinda popped into my head while I was making my choices!

Right now, guests using fastpass+ are using magicbands and are staying at certain resorts. I believe if you have a magicband or fastpass+, you can schedule fastpasses for each day and only at one park each day. That is my understanding of it. We are all still learning as we go.
