My beautiful spreadsheet....is gone

We had a major virus take over a bunch of the drives at my job. In one of my less intelligent moves, I had saved my trip spreadsheet on the desktop. In order to eradicate the virus, IT had to wipe all our computers. Now all my trip planning stuff is gone, along with all of my work from the past year. IT is working on getting most of my stuff back from the last backup, but as of yet that has not happened.

I am really trying to look at this in a positive way: now I get to enjoy building another spreadsheet. Thankfully, I posted a pre-trip report on here, so I can use that to rebuild. mickey mickey mickey

I'm so sorry. I know this old fashioned, but I always have a hard copy back up of my plans. In other words paper and pen

Oh no! sad I hope IT can recover it for you. crossfingers If not, like you said, it is fun to make the spreadsheets. Even with all of the info being available on MDE, there's nothing like the color-coded, set-up-just-the-way-you-like-it spreadsheet. biggrin

eek that is my worst nightmare! I've had it happen several times over the years, if it's a Disney/ holiday plan I try to make sure it's on a flash drive or I email myself a copy after major changes. I also kept my emails notifying me when things had been changed.

The worst thing with losing work stuff is when you've spent hours on it and it crashes - just at the point you think 'oh my I have not saved in a while...'

Thanks, everyone! IT is still working on things. It was a massive issue that affected several departments. Along with my spreadsheet, I lost pictures and a years worth of work that I will need to replicate if they can not fix things. I just bought a portable external hard drive yesterday, so that will be my backup to my backup from now on.

Once, the place I volunteer at had an IT guy come in who proceeded to restore a computer to factory settings which deleted a LOT of stuff that really should have been preserved, in particular a five year photo archive. At home I store important stuff on an external drive and REALLY important stuff gets archived to CDs.

IT got me back everything, but my spreadsheet! However, MrHub was nice enough to send me some templates, so I will just rebuild it. I am just thankful that all my work stuff is intact!

Yay Disney teamwork! So glad that you are able to rebuild.

I usually have a couple of places I keep the Disney information. My spreadsheet is the primary, but I always load my information into TripIt, and I usually have at least one paper copy of the spreadsheet.
