So "Disney Parks" has started a blog:

I was curious what you guys think about this? Some of the Disney bloggers are kind of miffed that Disney is cutting into their territory.

I'm not miffed at all! In fact, I link it in my own blog. It provides a lot of insight, especially on park updates, that many of us regular Disney bloggers are not privy to. So I definitely follow it regularly and I don't see them as displacing other Disney blogs.

I like the blog site Disney has. Because it is a Disney blog, I agree with Zz...they have a lot of insight...
Life is what you make it...then there's Disney!!!
I've found that they've been posting pretty "common knowledge" stuff. There isn't anything I've seen there that I haven't seen other places already. So I think it'll be just about the same as the Disney website has been -- while they're the official word, a lot of Disney bloggers will probably still deliver the scoops, as the Disney Parks blog wouldn't be allowed to announce things officially until the cat's often already out of the bag...

I don't quite agree.
For example, just look at Steven Miller's blog entry on the Vinylmation series pins. As the person who is practically in charged of Disney pin trading, no one outside of Disney would know what he wrote and the inside scoop on the pin series.
While this isn't a "news item", it certainly fills a niche that many fans, especially pin traders, follow closely. I don't expect "news" out of such blogs, because any significant news will be done by the Walt Disney Company itself. That's not the purpose of such a blog. What I do expect are tiny tidbits like this, and that's why they are doing.

I don't think Disney bloggers need to be worried about Disney's corporate blog. I would much rather read what somebody not employed by Disney thinks about a new restaurant or new attraction than read the "party line" from Disney. Do you think a corporate blog will ever be self-critical? Of course not. All their blog will be is more public relations. If I want honest insights (the good, the bad and the ugly), I'd read a Disney blog not written by the company itself. I think Disney bloggers are much better about writing about all the nitty-gritty details that we fans want to know--because they themselves are fans. No corporate blog will ever get that. Sure, the corporate blog might have the inside edge on breaking Disney news, but so what? I'm not as interested in the news as I am fan reaction to the news....But that's just me.

I don't really think they're competing on the same information. I do wonder if they're competing on attention though. I suspect most people will check in on the official blog and that might knock another blog off the list.
In case anyone is interested, there is a new blog on the Disney Blog site about the Flag Retreat Ceremony. As I have mentioned, I tried to be the veteran that got to participate...but no luck...that time.
If you have never seen the ceremony, the video gives a pretty good idea about what happens.

Thanks, Mike. I went over and took a peek -- it's great.
I think the blog has really blossomed in the past few weeks since it's launch. They're finding a good niche with interesting topics.

I agree SpaceAce...it has gotten better. I have even posted some of my own comments on some of the blogs. It has been interesting following the changes to the golf tournament this year.

I agree with you, Zz, and with SpaceAce, who's just posted that the blog has really blossomed. I think that the posts from so many different Disney CMs across so many different areas of the parks is really quite interesting. Plus, they are delving into Disney "backstage" more than I thought they would -- design and imagineering -- which I think is great.
