New Downtown Disney Movie Theater Concession Stand

Have you guys heard about the new concession stand additions? Serve-your-own ice cream, the new interactive coke machine with 106 flavors, and a bunch of other "extras." Seems pretty cool, but we've NEVER gone to a movie there! I think it's one of those "we can go to movies at home, so why would we go in Disney?" things laugh

That sounds interesting. Is that a freestyle machine, or something else?

I saw something about the coke machine on the Disney Food Blog & that looks awesome but I did NOT see the serve your own Ice Cream..that would have caught my attention!
If we were there for a long time I think we'd catch a movie..but we think the same way as you Admin..we are on vacation..why do it there when we can go at home!

Same for us, would much rather spend the time in the parks. If there was some really bad weather it would be tempting to get out of it for a while though and watch something that hadn't been released in the UK yet.

Given the amount of hassle you guys have to endure to get there the value proposition for going to a movie in Orlando would seem even worse than for us. I think it would be fun to go to a movie down there (although we've never actually done it), but if I had a long flight (how long is it?) it would be a very hard sell.

I used to think this way til I went to a movie theatre in London and wow. I couldn't believe how nice it was.
It was such a different experience. I got to pick where I wanted to sit and the seats were like lazy boy loungers.
I actually fell asleep for a few minutes during the movie. They also had a full bar and we had a drink before the movie. I'm glad we did a movie night because I consider it part of the travel experience.

Recently went to Cape Cod and it was pouring for the whole time we were there. The movie theater ended up saving the day for us since the ferries weren't running.

So now I actually sometimes fill in my down time with a movie just to see what the rest of the country or the world does at their theaters. You never know what unique twist there will be on the movie house.

That's a great point Chris. It is fun to see how folks in other places do typical activities.

That is a good point..I like to go to movies when I am somewhere else as well.

I just would feel like I was missing something.
Unless it was like HP7 or something..that'd be awesome to see at Disney.

There's so much to do at Disney that I've never made it there either. Maybe local kids get dropped off there and hang out at night. This might be great for local business.

Chris -- thanks for the interesting perspective!

ChipnDalefan -- Good point on the theater being good for local business.

Every time we go, there is a rainy night when we have nothing to do. Next time, we need to go to a movie to go to the concession stand!

I had not heard of this either, and we were just there!

Maybe they could have used the money they spend on that for projectors that actually work. This is the second time we've gone to the movies in DTD and something went haywire with the projector. This trip it was with Tangled...color me bitter...

It seems every other trip we find ourselves going to the movie theater when we have some down time, want to just relax, are there's something we really want to see. For us, seeing a Disney movie while at Disney is just fun. But we're weird.

No good projectors!!!!!! There is nothing I hate more than when projectors dont work in movies..I mean we pay 9 gabillion dollars for the movie.

Yes! We saw a whole whopping 3 minutes of Tangled (3D!) before it went kaputz and they canceled showings for the night. Grrrr!

Ouch! Had you at least had some other fun in Downtown Disney?

Most definitely! World of Disney always makes me happy (though my wallet disagrees) and Goofy's Candy Co. helped silly

And just being there made up for any hassle!

I like to think of World of Disney as a museum, rather than a shop. It helps me keep my wallet in check.

But every museum has a really great gift shop!
