New member preparing for Honeymoon

Hello everyone,

I'm Paul, engaged to Maria! We're getting married on Sept 21st, 2013, and honeymooning (Disneymooning?) Spt 22-29th at WDW. I've already booked us a Honeymoon Suite on the Club Level at the Wilderness Lodge!

We're both been to WDW before (Me twice, her once). We're looking to do a combination of parks and non-park activities.

Tips/tricks/advice from other couples who've honeymooned at WDW are more than welcome!

Paul

Hi Paul! And Welcome!

We too will be honeymooning at Wilderness Lodge this February! I've decided that the very first morning we wake up at the resort, I am going to have room service deliver 2 mimosa's and a continental breakfast basket full of pastries as one of the first surprises for my husband. Just a little something to kick off the romance. Maybe you could surprise your honey with a surprise in-room breakfast one morning! awesome

congrats and welcome You are just going to LOVE Wilderness Lodge. DH and I Disneymooned there in 2005, went back in 2010 and will be there next week. I'm not sure if we could stay anywhere else on property now. wink

As for tips/suggestions, oh, I'm rubbing my hands together with glee! laugh I can't wait to get started helping with that. For a suggestion now, I'd say check out the boards here - Trip reports, Dining, Experiences. There is a huge wealth of information!

Hello again everyone, and thanks for the welcomes and good wishes!

Generally, we plan on splurging some....I would have loved to stay at the GF, but that's just out of our price range, so the WL Honeymoon Suite on the Club Level the will do. I'm doing the arrangements through AAA and taking advantage of AAA member discounts (working with a GREAT travel agent at my local AAA office). The only major honeymoon item we don't have yet is our flight there and back...JetBlue looks good price-wise and schedule-wise, but their schedule for next Sept isn't out yet.

One big plus for me is the Continental Breakfast offered to Club Level guests at the WL....that's one less meal we'll have to pay for or use our Dining Plan for...I don't mind paying a little more if Breakfast (among other things) is included! I purchased the DDP of 1 Table Service, 1 Quick Service, and 1 Snack per night. I have a cousin who's a CM at MK....she definitely recommended a Dining Plan! She says it'll be worth it especially with the Table Service restaurants!

We're SO looking forward to it.....I've read online so many stories of honeymooning couples getting treated so well by CM's and others!

Our honeymoon schedule so far;

Sunday 9/22/2013 Leave home, fly to Disney. Get settled in at WL....take advantage of the free wine at WL's Old Faithful Club!

Monday 9/23/2013 Maria's birthday
Disney Day Epcot and DHS best to visit (If we do any parks this day, which we probably won't)
Relax; Rent a paddleboat or 2-seater Jet-Ski?
Carriage ride?

Dinner at Victoria&Alberts for Maria's birthday (yes, her birthday will occur during our honeymoon!)

(Tuesday through Saturday schedules are dependent on the weather)

Tuesday 9/24/2013 Disney Day MK or DHS (DHS best to visit)
(California Grill to watch MK fireworks?)

Wednesday 9/25/2013 Disney Day MK or Epcot (Either)
(California Grill to watch MK fireworks?)

(Rose and Crown to watch Epcot fireworks?)

Thursday 9/26/2013 Disney Day Epcot or DHS (Epcot best to visit)
(Rose and Crown to watch Epcot fireworks?)

Friday 9/27/2013 Disney Day MK or DHS (MK best to visit)
(California Grill to watch MK fireworks?)

Saturday 9/28/2013 Low-key day; Kennedy Space Center? (we'll rent a car at WDW for a day for this)
Disney Day? Epcot or DHS (Epcot best to visi
Dinner at resort in room?
Prepare to come home.

Sunday 9/29/2013 Leave Disney to come home, end of honeymoon.

I've been told, and have read from different sources, that this is one of the best times to go to WDW! The kids have just gone back to school, the prices are at their best, and the weather is still good (as long as no hurricanes come [after all, this IS hurricane season!]).

Since Maria's birthday will also take place (on 9/23) while we're there on our honeymoon, we're going to have dinner at Victoria&Alberts at the GF for her birthday.....I know it's a lot of money, but the way I see it, it's about the experience (of course, the food has to be good too!). Maybe Mickey and Minnie can come and wish her a Happy Birthday also? One of my cousin's had dinner there with her husband a while back.....they spent about $400, but they said it was worth it! Dinner at V&A's is a DEFINITE for us...even if it weren't her birthday, we would still do it! Since we're still outside the 180-day window to book ADR's, we have time to plan what other restaurants we want to eat at!

Maria also wants her picture taken with some of the Disney Princesses in her reception dress....does anyone know if this can be arranged at the WL?

We also purchased 4-day Park Passes with the Park Hopper Option....in case we get bored with one park, we can go to another on the same day!

I'd LOVE to do a boat ride to watch the MK fireworks from one of the lakes...has anyone ever done this before? I'd love to do this if one or more couples are willing to contribute to the boat rental...it's kinda pricey for just one couple.

I've already bought a few tour books on WDW (Fodors, Birnbaum Guides, etc), and looked at SO MANY web sites....Maria says I might get Disney Info Overload!

We plan on having dinner in our room one night...someone suggested breakfast in the room one morning too...that's a good idea...I hadn't thought of that!

And yes, we WILL be wearing the Bride and Groom mouse ears (even if we have to buy them ourselves, though we're hoping someone will buy them for us as a wedding gift)! However, some people have said they've done away with the "Just Married" buttons, some say they haven't....does ANYONE know for sure if the "Just Married" buttons are still available, or have they done away with them? We wore "Just Engaged" buttons when we went for 2 days last Feb, and even those buttons got us lots of "congratulations" from CM's!

2 more things.....we're going to ask for Disnet Gift Cards for wedding gifts, and we're going to do a "Dollar Dance" at out reception! Cash gained from the Dollar Dance will be used for tips, wine's at dinner's, and other low-cost items/services.

And I've still got some time to plan some surprises for Maria....I know all about the Disney Florist, for example Smile

And if anyone knows any other couples (especially other honeymooning couples) who'll be there the same time we'll be there, feel free to tell them about us!

Sounds like an excellent plan! I'm especially excited to hear about you V&A experience! As far as the just married buttons, they didn't have them anymore when we were there for a late honeymoon in October, we got "Happily Ever After" buttons which all the CMs recognized as honeymoon buttons.

What a fun trip! Congratulations!

I love how into all the planning you are! I think it makes for a much better experience when you map it all out ahead of time.

Have you looked into renting one of the "Friendships" for a cruise around World Showcase during "Illuminations"? I've heard those are fun for special events!

Again, Congrats to you two and WELCOME!!

We're so glad you're here!

Nancy,

Yes, I've looked at doing a cruise to watch the fireworks, but in my opinion it's kinda pricey for just one couple. If when we're there we link up with perhaps 2-3 other couples willing to split the cost of the yacht rental, then I'd do it.

Besides, there's plenty of other romantic stuff that a couple on their honeymoon can do there!

And yes, I have the week pretty much mapped out, and except for the Monday we'll be there, the rest of the week isn't cast in stone. For example, we built in to the week a day to go to the Kennedy Space Center. If there's one day while we're there where it looks like it'll rain all day, we'll go to the KSC for the day (plenty to do indoors there).

The only thing that'll ruin our week will be a major hurricane! Fortunately, WDW has a Hurricane Policy!

Hello Paul and welcome to WDWForGrownups. Great choice for wedding, that's our anniversary day! clapping yay

Yes we have done the cruises for fireworks many times and they are great! Matter of fact , we just left WDW, (still in a Hampton Inn in Wilson , NC. on our way home) and we did a Cruise on Seven Seas Lagoon to watch the MVMCP Fireworks. Ask Jess & Mase what they thought of them. I don't think the cruise for Illuminations is worth it because they park under the bridge near France and it's just not a really good spot. Also FYI, they are not booked as "Fireworks Crusies" , so if the fireworks dont go off for some reason, they do not & will not give a refund.

Nancy, no boats cruise around the lake during the Illuminations.

Huh...I thought I read somewhere that you could rent out one of the Friendships for special occasions and they would serve you drinks and hors d'oeuvres and what-not.

Nancy,

They do....but if I've read the rental prices correctly, it's one set price whether it's for 2 people or 10 people! That's why I mentioned previously if perhaps 2-3 or more other couples want to chip in for the rental cost, I'm in!

Nancy, the Friendship Cruisers are the boats that are in Crescent Lake that go from one side to the other and also go between Hollywood Studios and the World Showcase. As far as I know they have never rented them out.

The only ones that are rented out are the pontoon boats and the Grand One. We have done the Wishes Cruise on Seven Seas Lagoon several times. Here is Disney's link regarding them and here is another Disney World Specialty Cruises. There are 2 size Pontoon boats, 8 person & 10 person. There is nothing listed for the Friendship boats and never has been on either of those site.
