New Refurb at Coronado Spring to last a while

Buzz on his CSR site is announcing that CSR is undergoing refurb primarily in preferred Kings and will last thru fall so that people who are booked in them, will be moved accordingly. What are the chance of being moved to another resort? such as FQ or RS????? We are booked there in mid Sept and he said that they are ripping out bathrooms, among other things so it's major enough. confused

Anyone have anything further than that?

I find it ironic that we busted our keisters to get a room there during FD and now they move us again.

If you have to move (through no fault of your own) to a resort that doesn't offer free dining, they should, at the very least, let you keep it.

I'm not an expert on refurbishments there but I'm sure that they will be moving guests to another preferred room at CSR. I don't think I've ever heard of them moving guests to an entirely new resort. I'm sure they won't do all the rooms at once in order to accommodate the reservations they already have. Smile But hey I could be wrong, so I guess there's always hoping crossfingers

They could possibly move you to another resort, but I would think only if they are overbooked for the rooms they will have available. They did that with the Poly at the beginning of all the work they are doing now.

Sorry it happened the way it did OT, but have they sent you something saying they are moving you or are you just assuming they will?

We were booked at POR during those renovations, and it didn't really affect us. They don't do the entire resort at once - they work section by section. Maybe you will be lucky and get a renovated room. crossfingers

It entirely depends on if they sold the rooms that are going under construction, they may or may not have done that. If those rooms had already been taken out of the inventory during for stay when you booked, then you shouldn't have any problem. If they weren't there is the possibility that they could move you to another room type or even, another resort. Moving guests to another resort is always a last ditch effort, however it has been known to happen. It could be that you had trouble getting a room there because they had already been taken out of inventory.

The refurbs are to the preferred Kings and it involves replacing the bathrooms with a "rain shower" (not sure what that is)in place of the tub/shower, starting sometime in August. I asked our TA and she said that they can bump us up (where do you go up from preferred King? and NOT business King). but there is also the option to offer us another resort. She/TA said that FD would remain with us if that happened as well. We won't know until we check in. I have heard posters on other sites who were offered a move, but right now I just don't want to live in a work zone for a week. I am already bummed by the hub tear up at MK as the Wishes Dessert Buffet currently over looks.....yuck yuck yuck

No, Mark, they have not offered us anything as they won't know this far in advance, I am just preparing mentally in case i have to adjust all the prep work.

All rooms will be refurbished, they are just starting with the casitas which happen to also be the preferred rooms at the resort. Starting in August, guests that have booked preferred rooms have been contacted to move to waterview rooms in other sections. They most likely will only do one building at a time so it won't impact stays in the other rooms/sections. I visited CSR during the last rehab and they just go building by building closing one at a time. Should last through April/May 2015.

The design team is still looking at the furniture so the final design has not been completed.

Thank you! I just wasn't sure what was going on. We were one of those parties (2 rooms/2 couples) who were going anyway and booked the trip last January, but when FD came thru, our TA moved us around until we got it, but we had to go to CRS and book the preferred Kings. If they move us to waterview I am fine with that. I really wanted to go to FQ this time, but I can't in good conscience ask our friends to pay over $500 more because of resort choice when CRS is just as nice. Since they have never stayed at any resort, it just didn't seem fair. But on the flip side, I am one of those over-organized people and don't really feel great about walking in to register (and need to make our first ADR) only to be told we are moving to another spot that I am not familiar with. I know it's really stupid......but accepting who you are is how you make it less annoying to others. mickey

Okay, this is getting stranger and stranger....

Both I and my TA called the resort directly to see what was going on (I have the direct number) and my TA was passed to SEVEN different people, the last one calling himself manager, and all said they don't know where the rumor started but they don't have anything in their information indicating ANY refurb thru 2014.
In my call to them, I was passed to three people and the last one asked where I got the information. I told him and she replied, (paraphrase) We are getting a number of calls on this but didn't know where it was coming from. At this point we have not been told of any refurb and would have been told by now if there was one starting that soon, especially with the FD taking so many rooms. Puzzled

Soooo
I made the mistake of posting our findings on the CSR thread over at " another site" and I told that they were quite sure I didn't talk to the resort directly but called some number that is just a low ranking CM on the switch board, Buzz doesn't lie but Disney CMs have done so in the past (there's a cheerful view of Disney - the magical place), and that when they post "inside information" on their site, you can put money on it. Tongue

I am not posting this to put down the other site, but it was pretty nasty in response, and to be honest, both my TA and I had been very specific about where we called. So now we wait to see if something happens after all, or if this is just a dreamer's wish. (Actually, some there had the same response when I questioned the starting date for FD-it was two weeks off from their announcement) confused

Thanks for NOT being snarky. To me Disney is magical not just for the place, but the people too. awesome

Okay I am done complaining..... waiting

Well Tink, I will tell you what I know. I would tell you the same thing and most other people will also, you are not calling the resort direct, you are getting a call center that answer the phone for what ever resort phone line you are calling. They all answer " Hello such and such Resort, how can I help you?

The reason they don't know about construction is because they are usually the last to know. This same thing happened when the Poly started all this construction. We were there, at the Poly, we could see the construction going on. There were people calling the numbers they had for "Direct to the Poly" and they were still being told there was no construction going on and they didn't understand where they would have heard that". I talked with the manager, who told me, you can not call the resorts direct, regardless of what numbers are listed on the internet or where or who you got them from. They all go to a call center and that's why they don't have up to the minute information. Most of the people at the call centers have never even seen the resorts they are talking about.

Thank you, Mark. That is a very nice and clear explanation (without the snark I can do without). It is the same number I called two years ago to find a package that didn't make it to our giftshop delivery in time for us to leave and they transfered me to Pachitos so I just accepted that was who I was talking to.

When they keep transferring you higher up, they are still at the call center? Weird. Do you, or anyone else know how long it takes before someone looks out the window and SEES there is construction happening? Our TA, as I said before talked to SEVEN different people (handed up the pole of no information) and she is wondering as well, when and if we will be contacted, since in her experience this is already a done deal this close to trip. In her experience, IF they overbooked, we will be moved to waterview (sure, fine, okay) or business class (NOT cool).

Since we went thru a TA, will they contact her or us....if they call anyone?

Thanks for being so kind and informational.

oldtink,
We have ran into both room refurbs and construction during stays at the Poly. We were not notified of the room refurb because it was not taking place in the building we requested during our stay. It was however going on in one of the other buildings. While we were there people were posting on that Poly website that they had called that day and were told nothing was going on. From the outside of the building, most people would not have even noticed the refurb. We only knew from what was being posted on that website. Sure enough when we walked over to that building to check it out, you could then see that all of the windows had been covered and indeed a refurb was going on. You would probably never notice one of the buildings being refurbed if you did not know it was going on. Honestly it will not look like a construction site. I imagine you will not be informed unless they will be working on the building you requested. I do believe if you use a TA, any letter or info will be sent to them.

As far as when the real construction started there, we received a letter from the Poly about a month before that trip telling us that there would be construction going.

Thanks for the info. From what I was told on the Buzz site, was that the three buildings with Preferred Kings would be under refurb beginning the end of Aug. Since there are only three buildings with these rooms, and our trip is three weeks into this bathroom remodel, AND FD had really locked the place up, we assumed we would see something. I guess we just wait and see now. I just would like to know BEFORE I walk in if they are moving us or offering us a 'downgrade" (which would actually be what we originally asked for.
I am someone who loves it allllllll planned before I get there and then relax.

They will only do one building at a time and regardless, they would not downgrade you. They would upgrade you or move you across the board and give you something in compensation.

Refurbs inside of buildings are barely, if at all, noticed from the outside.

My TA just emailed me and she was very curious about all of this, so she drove over to the resort and spoke with the manager on duty. He showed her their books of planned events, and walked her over to the buildings in question. He said that unless someone is keeping a big secret higher up, and that would not be good business, they have no record of any refurb happening in 2014.
Not trying to argue with other "sources in the know" but what an amazing TA to drive (a distance for her) to check out what is really going on! stars angelwings

Wel Disney has been know to not tell until the day it happens. The same goes for something planned and then it gets cancelled the day it is supposed to happen.

Wow you do have a "magical" TA and I am so glad that you are feeling relieved about the refurb. Mrhub is right Disney would definitely upgrade and not downgrade you. Definitely bad for business.

THANK YOU!
On a "different site" I was lambasted because my TA had the ....to actually drive over to see what was going on so she could let her clients know. She is a sweet, kind, generous person and wouldn't bother anyone. I have felt bad even asking her to look into something "just in case" because she will do these kind things.

I finally was so fed up with all the nasty stuff, I just closed out and deleted the place on my computer. waiting

Here's my spiel:
Disney is magical to us. It can get expensive, and yes, we try to grab the savings when we can. We also can go only about every two years, so we truly enjoy the escape "in the bubble". I also work hard in the months leading up to it to make sure everyone in my family and our friends have just as magical a time as we do.
BUT, ff going to this magical place means you are really mean to others, then I think the person dishing it out to others has somehow loss that Disney magic. sarcastic

I have a framed pic in my bathroom:" I choose to happy because it's not only good for me, it's good for those around me." silly

So off to rent a mini warehouse for the big move, pick up some groceries, and have my nails done WITH A SMILE!!!
Have MAGICAL Day to all on this site!!!

I'm so sorry that you had a difficult time on the other site, we try very hard here at Walt Disney World for Grown-ups to accept that everyone can have a different but equally awesome Disney experience, keeping an open mind for all. We are careful about our sources, and don't take rumors then run away with them willy nilly.

Many of us have come from or belong to different Disney websites, so we are also very careful here not to discuss our experiences on other sites here. We want to be sure to leave the bad juju behind in order to keep an unbiased opinion and open minds for all. We completely respect other site owners right to run their forums the way that they want to, just as much as we do ours.

We hope that we can continue to provide a supportive environment for your love of Disney, and that you'll leave that drama over wherever it came from. mickey

As it gets closer, hopefully I'll know more but what I do know is they will be closing all three buildings (casita 1, 2, and 3) at once and they will remain closed until complete. Time frame unknown at this time.
