The New RFID Refillable Mug..

Good Evening Folks...Now according to my new 2014 Passporter's book, it states that you can use it at any resort, not just the one your staying at...Not that I've ever took mine outside our resort, but we always bought new ones each trip and have quite a collection, tho i did see people at PORS using old mugs from previous years...Anyway is this information correct.?..

Interesting that the books says you can use it at any resort...I will have to get my new book out because that is not what I was told last October and checking with Disney (see below) that is not what they are saying. Of course if you want to carry it with you you can get water but nothing else is free to my knowledge. And like you I would never carry it with me to any of the parks or downtown disney as less is always better when it comes to carrying stuff.

Where can I use my Refillable Mug?
Your Refillable Mug is only good at your home resort, and only for your length of stay. Basically, you need to get a new mug each trip, and at each resort you stay at. There are no refill areas anywhere outside the resorts, so your mug will not work in any of the theme park restaurants, Downtown Disney or anywhere else.

Ummm this is interesting here is another site that says you can refill these at any Disney resort:
What are Rapid Fill Mugs?

A new refillable mug system has been implemented at Walt Disney World Resort hotels called Rapid Fill. The Rapid Fill mugs employ a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip embedded into the bottom of the mugs that can be programmed for multiple days. Guests will select a specific time frame for the mugs to be activated, which can include anywhere from one, two, or three days. For the ultimate convenience, choose the length of stay option, which can be up good for up to 14 consecutive days. If a guest is staying longer than 14 days, they may then have the option of adding additional days, as long as it's within the trip's current length of stay.

The prices of the mugs will vary based on Guest preference for number of days for refills:

*$8.99 for 1 day
*$11.99 for 2 consecutive days
*$14.99 for 3 consecutive days
*$17.99 for length of stay (up to 14 consecutive days)
Rapid Fill mugs can be purchased by anyone, not just Disney Resort Guests, in the food courts of most resorts. Some resorts do not have a food court, so these mugs are also available at select quick service restaurants, pool bars or other locations. The Rapid Fill mugs are hard plastic insulated cups and are currently available in the following colors: purple, orange, and green.

When you first purchase your mug, the security tag holding the lid onto the mug will be clipped off at the check-out stand by a Cast Member. Once you've purchased your mug, head over to the beverage station and look for a sink to rinse out any storage debris and dust that may have accumulated before your purchase. Once "neat and pretty" you can then fill your mug with any of the offerings that are available at the beverage station.

Keep in mind that mugs are activated for a calendar day, not a 24 hour period. So, if for example, you bought a mug at 9 pm and used it that first day, the mug's first day use will end at 11:59 pm that same evening. Whenever the mug is used for the first time, regardless of time of day, the mug will expire that day at midnight.

The Rapid Fill mugs can be used not only at the resort it was purchased, but at any Rapid Fill machine any Disney-owned resort on property. So, you are welcome to take your mug with you should you resort-hop. Just keep in mind that you must still be within the number of consecutive days that were purchased for your mug.

Disney Dining Plan Guests will receive this mug as part of their package - a Rapid Fill mug will be included for each member of your party at no additional charge. Just use the Dining Plan on your Key to the World card or MagicBand to "pay" for the mug wherever they are sold at your resort.

Interesting...According to Passporter's 2014 which I received today..Page 36 states " This new Rapid Fill mug - which rolled out in July 2013- contains an active RFID chip that allows refills at any Disney resorts soda station during the term of your stay." In fact as I type this my DW has confirmed this on another Disney web site but has also told me the new RFID mug does not allow tea or coffee...Whit.. eek

We were able to refill ours at any resort, just not in the parks or anywhere else.

Have just spoke to a Disney rep from WDW but she had to do a little research as I asked her about our scenario as although we are staying for 14 nights, we are there for 15 days therefore if we use our mug on arrival ( approx 5.00 PM at resort ) The first day runs out that night at 11.59 and this means on day 15 our mug will be deactivated.. eek ...She wasn't too sure but eventually told me it's for your entire stay...Yet on further research it tells you extra days can be purchased..I will ask at the concierge when we buy ours from the resort shop..

Yes it's right. You can't use it at the parks though.

I'm hoping they'll come up with a reactivation price so I don't keep accumulating mug after mug after mug...

We stayed at pop but used it at boardwalk on one trip. But we found them to be in our way and prefered to keep up with our water bottles instead. But you can use them any where.

Also something to bear in mind for the RFID mugs is that Roaring Forks doesn't appear to open until 7 am (thanks allears)
So if you want coffee any earlier using the in room coffee machine might be a better option.

From what I understand, Nescafe coffee has been replaced throughout Disney world with Joffrees' coffee (although the spelling could be off a little). Brad and AJ talked about it a little bit in their latest podcast.

You shouldn't be able to use old mugs if all the resorts are using the new rapid refill program.

Correct...I believe all resorts are using RFID mugs, but you can use them in any resort..So if you were in a big party and were staying at different resorts there wouldn't be a problem visiting each other with your mugs..

You could do that with the old system as well. To my knowledge, cast members didn't check to see if you were staying at the resort or not with the old system.

Your probably right, tho I do remember a family at POFQ using the main pool and a CM had been told they weren't staying at that resort..That is when the mugs had the Port Orleans logo on them..I take it other guests had noticed their mugs were different... eek
