Hi,
I'm new to this board but not new to WDW. We( wife and I) will be making our 53rd trip to Disney in Sept. We took our kids to the Magic Kingdon for the Grand Opening in 1971 and then took our grandson the the Magic Kingdom in 1990. We haven't been to a theme park but twice since WDW opened. We love Disney World Resorts and now go 4 times a year and never to the theme parks. Don't know of anyone else that does that but we are just old wierd folks still romantic after 50 plus years.

Ahh, a person after my own heart!

Now I can't say that I don't go to the parks on my trips, but we've take many week long trips where we've only done the parks one day or two.

I lost track of the number of trips we've made, but we're somewhere in your ballpark and my first trip was 1972.

You'll fit right in here. We have a LOT of people who have...ummm.. "odd ideas"...

Glad I'm not one of 'em! laugh

Welcome to the board. You may enjoy WDW in a different way than some of us, but rest assured you'll fit right in. Glad to have you here.

welcome

Welcome to the "grownup" boards. To each his own when it comes to the way you enjoy WDW. The key is to enjoy the World, and as long as that is what you are doing, you are happy. What is your favorite resort, and why? Since you are at the resorts more than others you will have valuable insights into them, can't wait to hear. Also when is your next trip planned or scheduled?

We stayed for many years at Ft. Wilderness. First with tent then at the cabins and most recently in our motor home. On one trip, Some years ago, there were no available sites at Ft. Wilderness so we stayed at one of the All Star resorts. We liked that and after a few stays there we tried the new Pop Century that had just opened. We fell in love with that place. It is our favorite. We kept going in the motor home at least once a year so my brother and his wife could set up a tent in back of us. This last May was the last time for that. I always loved Ft. Wilderness, being an old country boy, but what they did by removing all the vegetation from between sites is to me a crime. Kind of looks like a Viet Nam delta after an agent orange treatment. My wife can't get in and out of the motor home anymore anyway. It's Pop Century from now on. If we stayed in one of the other resorts we couldn't afford to go 4 times a year. We are Fl. residents so always wait for the Fl. res. specials. We have been to every Disney Resort many times, swam in many of their pools and ate in many of their restaurants.
We will be there again at Pop Century from Sept. 6th to Sept 12th.

Welcome to the boards Subvetss! I have a ton of questions about Fort Wilderness. I've visited several times but it looks like a really interesting place to stay. Pop Century is a great. Are the Florida resident discounts pretty substantial?

Hi Subvetss!! mickey

I love Pop Century. We've had plenty of debates around here about whether we'd want to do several lower-cost trips or one high-cost trip per year, so your insights will be welcome!

I've also had a couple of trips where we spent very little time in the parks--they were so relaxing!!

Welcome to the board! yay

I'm totally with you about the non-theme park trip. I've suggested this as a possibility several times, I'm glad to see someone executing the plan. Do you have any unusual activities you can recommend?

I've never done it at WDW, but I have taken some 'stay-in' type vacations with my family. We'd just bring along some of our favorite board/card/other games and stay in the room playing games, watching movies, and having room service. We've had some of our best trips like that.

The nice thing about WDW is there's tons of stuff to do even without a park ticket. That being said we've had a lot of fun going to the Iron Spike Room, or whatever it's called now in the Wilderness Lodge and playing chess.

Forgot to mention, cruises are also fun for relaxing. Sure there are a lot of activities and shore excursions you can partake of, but doing as little as possible is a very good time. Especially on some of the all-inclusive cruises. We made great use of the free room service. You could call RS at two am for a brownie, LOL, it was great!

It's the 'Carolwood Pacific' room, in honor of Walt's backyard railroad. Worth a visit for anybody going to WDW to see actual cars that came from Walt's back yard.

Amazing to me that don't do a bit more promotion on that.

Welcome, subvetss! I was at Ft. Wilderness for the first time this past May (didn't stay there, just went to go horseback riding). Wow! I had no idea it was so spread out. It took me over an hour to get from the marina to the horse riding stables, and I had to take an internal bus to do it. All I could think of was "It's a good thing I'm not staying here, I'd never find my way home at night!" laugh

Welcome to the boards subvetss! I must say I can understand why you've changed from Fort Wilderness. It's really great, but it's not a great place for those with mobility problems. Anyplace where they rent out golf carts to people staying there is probably not the best bet if you're having trouble getting around. Pop Century is a great resort. You can park pretty close to your room and it has all kinds of fun stuff. A really great value. Glad you're here!

Let me also throw in my welcome!! welcome

I have never stayed at Fort Wilderness, but I LOVE staying at POP Century! What a splendid hotel (and cheap)

Dont worry about not going into the parks, to each their own, and you will still find plenty to talk about here!
