Not So Scary Halloween Party and Very Merry Christmas Party without kids?

Heck yes! - It's like you were a kid again grabbing all the candy you can - or should I say finding a way to tote all the candy you get. If you go before Halloween, you'll be able to bring home enough candy to satisfy all the trick or treaters at your door on Halloween night (re-treating). Worth it? You bet! Limited tickets means short lines and a "haunting" atmosphere. I'd especially recommend the Haunted Mansion area where some very spooky things happen in the graveyard. The special lighting throughout the park and the spooky effects on Main Street USA are great!! Don't miss the special Halloween fireworks. As for Christmas - It's a Christmas like when you were a kid again. Don't miss the parade! Anything is worth it at Christmas.

Can we go without kids? Has anyone done this? Is it worth it?

Have to second this. I personally enjoy the Halloween party more than the Christmas party but they both are great. The overall atmosphere at WDW is greater around Christmas, but as far as the party itself, the Halloween party and parade are my favorite.

I've often wondered why we get so excited about "free" candy when we spend $30+ to go to the party and bring home much less than $30 worth of candy...but Mickey's Not So Scary is a fun night regardless Smile

I like both parties and both parades. The headless horseman in the Halloween parade is tough to beat, but there IS snow on Main Street during the Christmas parade... .

Ha ha!! They've changed it over the years; mostly hershey products and what-not. I remember finding the lines that gave baby ruths and butterfingers and going through them over and over again! Wink

LOL - But being from the snow belt region of Western New York, I can attest to the fact that "Disney" snow tastes a bit funny! The effect, however, is awesome, about as visually realistic as one can image. It's amazing how much more enjoyable a "blizzard" is at 60, 70 or 80 degrees! Don't miss it!

I love both times! The Halloween parade has all the evil characters and I LOVE the wicked queen from Snow White. And that great Satanic creature from Fantasia! Cool!

The Christmas parade is super. It has everything, even gingerbread smells!! And, remember those green plastic soldiers you or your brother had when you were a kid? We,ll they are in the parade complete with round flat plastic bottoms on their feet so they can stand up!! I cracked right up!!!

Yes, people dress up. Or not. It's your choice. Both kids and adults dress up. It's fun to see groups dressed up as the Incredibles. Lots of pirates and princesses. But jpeople dress up as anything. My husband stopped at a WalMart and bought an orange tshirt with a jack-o-lantern face on it. I just threw on a dollar store feather boa. and the last time I didn't dress up at all. But one of there days I'm going to go all out!

Are you sure its not New York snow that tastes funny?

I've seen many many people(adults) go to the halloween party by them selves. We came across some people dressed in the best costumes that were there for "candy and rides", but we like taking the kids it's fun to see their faces light up when they see costumes that are silly.. we're the queens of silly costumes.

Hey! You guys look great!

DW and I don't mind dressing up a bit, but it's never that extravagant. Just enough to stay in the spirit Smile

Hi!

Never been to the Halloween party but have been to the Christmas party alone five times (2003-2007), all during Mousefest. Because MVMCP is a separate ticketed event, Magic Kingdom isn't as crowded as it is during the day. I had a good time but knew that this was especially geared to kids.

While I don't mind touring the park alone at this event, it's especially fun touring it with my Mousefesting buddies.

BTMRR is awesome at night!

Good morning, bali!

It is 4:41 am here. I am slowly recovering (I hope) from bronchitis by resting, drinking lots of fluids and taking azithromycin and a puffer. Praying fervently that it doesn't become pneumonia.

MouseFest begins this week--today, in fact, on the Disney Wonder four-night Bahamas cruise--with MouseFest land events beginning Thursday, December 11 and continuing to Monday the 15th.

@ dsoup:

No, I'm not AT MouseFest, though I wish I was. I am at home. Haven't been away from home since May, 2008.

I think they hierarchy of symptoms awfulness goes:

1.) Nausea (Worst)
2.) Sore Throat
3.) Headache
4.) Cough
5.) Congestion

So Cough's not so bad, right?!

Hope you get to feeling better.

Mom and I went to MVMCP a few years ago and really loved it! The snow was fantastic, the parade was fun, and we rode BTMRR 3 times w/o getting off. We would definitely do it again.

As for the Halloween... we're thinking seriously about going to that one this October. We're trying to decide if we want costumes or not. One question: so as adults, you don't get funny looks trick-or-treating? I know I hate it when high school kids come to my door with pillow cases as candy bags!

laugh Welcome to the Boards, CDK!

We've always trick-or-treated when we've been to MNSSHP...and we only get confused look when we find the really good candy lines and keep going through them over and over again. wink

In all seriousness, we love MNSSHP. The parade is one of the best in Disney history as far as I'm concerned. And don't forget that you paid $40+ for the party and all of the candy companies are getting free advertising! That candy is rightfully yours!

It's definitely okay to trick-or-treat without kids. Of course I've really stopped processing if anyone thinks I'm weird because I'm in WDW without kids, but I'm pretty sure no one has ever looked at me funny. I've looked at some of the CMs funny though, as there is a WIDE variety in how much candy individuals give you. Some are very generous and some are not! biggrin

Welcome to the boards! awesome

We do lots and lots of trick or treating. Especially back on the path between Toon Town and Tomorrowland where Alice and her Wonderland Friends have tea cups full of candy to give out. Toward the end of the night they just need to get rid of it, so you can get handfulls at once.

Yes, I'm 5.

By the way--great costume ideas (that are comfy) are doctor (wear scrubs) and cowboy (wear overalls). Oh yeah, and pajamas!

Just wanted to chime in. We really enjoy MHSSHP, even though we're two adults. Just had a great experience last September when there were only 8,000 tickets (out of 20,000) sold and we were pretty much alone in the park! We must have ridden Splash Mountain 5 times without getting off! It was also my first time riding Space Mountain twice without having to go through the line again...

There are some fun pics of the empty park that night in our September Trip Report mickey

I started to make a similar thread, but this one will do just fine:)

Can you guys tell me more about your NSSHP experiences? My wife and I have tickets and I can't wait. I've gathered that it's a great time, but I'd like to hear more about particular things you enjoyed. Some things I might enjoy unique to NSSHP (without any spoilers).

The atmosphere of the evening is really great. The whole park is flooded with the music from the Haunted Mansion, and you've got spooky lighting, jack-o-lanterns, and "light shows" of witches and ghosts on Main Street.

My favorite parts about the night are seeing the characters dressed in thier halloween costumes, hitting ALL of the trick-or-treat spots (the ones on the path between Toon Town and Tomorrowland are the best!), and watching the parade (one of the best in WDW in my opinion).

Are you going to dress up? I have some good costume ideas if you are.

yay I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself! I love all that stuff. Love it! We are going to dress up. I've thought long and hard about our costumes (as we'll be going as a couple). I have the costumes I've tentatively decided on in mind, but please lay the ideas on me:)
