Oh, what will we do???

So, we have a trip planned for 10/9-10/16 and I have been waiting for special offers to be released for that time period. Now, I know this was a long shot but I was hoping for a little pixie dust. Now that they have been released for September, the hubs and I are debating moving our trip up by three weeks to take advantage of the free dining package.

We have never had a dining plan but have also never done table service meals while in the World and were really looking forward to some great meals with this trip. We have never thought that the dining plan was the right fit for us but if it were free......

So my question is, should we or shouldn't we?

Well, it might be worth considering, but my only hesitation would be whether you could get reservations at this point to the places you really want to eat at. With the free dining release now open to everyone, I'm guessing there's been a bit of a run on the prime food places.

But Sept is also a bit slower, so maybe not. I think I would check into that and see if it allows you to eat where you want before making a switch. But if that's not as important as the free dining in general, or you're ok with taking your chances on walk-ups and/or a longer wait for seating, then I would probably do it.

We made ressies at 180 days in anticipation of a free dining offer, and if it had not come out, I probably would have cancelled about half of them. Like you, the dining plan isn't our thing, but if it's free we sure will take it! And we lucked out this time yay

My 2 cents.

That's great advice JeffC!

I've never had trouble getting ADRs in the fall, even when free dining is going on. However it may be worth checking out the reservation situation before you make the switch.

Is it possible to book dining online without having a res linked to your account? I have never tried to book dining without a res.

If it is, then I would book dining now, just in case, and cancel if you decide not to go at that time.

Yes! As long as your 180 days out, it's quite common because not everyone stays on site.

Thanks for the advice everyone! After reading JeffC's comment last night I jumped online and checked the crowd calendar for our tentative Sept dates against our original itinerary and what do ya' know - they matched up all most perfectly! I then went to WDW online and booked all our same ADR's (and got most of them for about the same time of day even!). This morning I called Disney bright and early and changed our resort reservation to match the new Sept dates and BOOM, we're heading to the world three weeks earlier! With free dining to boot! clapping

To top it off, I decided to switch our resort from POR to CBR. I know that I would love POR but I feel that a tropically themed resort will put me in more of a vacation-state-of-mind. I'm looking forward to the pirate themed room (POTC is afterall, my favorite ride!), the brightly colored decore, the white sandy beach, and (call me crazy) the huge resort area - I love to run and think CBR will be a great place to explore while on my daily morning run.

WOO HOO!! Congratulations and auto-magically you are 3 weeks closer to Disney Day!!!

I think you will over CBR tooo. We stayed there years ago and have to admit the white sandy beach and hammocks are a nice draw. It was a very relaxing stay. That was also the year we thought it would be fun to go jogging every morning around the perimeter of the resort! (Note we never thought that was a fun idea again, so more power to you!! Lol).

The path around the resort is perfect for jogging/walking, and depending on when you go, will see some really nice sunrises or sunsets. It's very mind clearing (once you get over the huffing and puffing because you really haven't run in years and are trying to keep up with someone younger and in better shape than you and trying not to fall over and collapse so everyone just waking up can see you and laugh....)
