'Ohana at Disney's Polynesian: Dinner Review

So I've always been hot and cold on 'Ohana. We haven't been going nearly as often as previously, but we still like to give it a try. This trip was pretty much right in line with previous trips.

Everything started off well. Everyone was asking for window tables so the guy basically said "you're not going to get a window seat," which we understood given the time. We were called for seating after a not very long wait and guess what: Seated right by the windows with a great view of the fireworks! clapping clapping clapping

Bread was good as always:

I also tried two of the beers here. I write about them in the Disney World Beers thread, but I will say that those were two of my favorites tries on the trip, mainly because they were interesting and I'd never had them before.

As usual the number one problem with any trip to 'Ohana surfaced: The Service

While our primary server was actually pretty prompt and attentive, the rest of the servers were not. Literally right after we put in our drink orders, they brought all the appetizers, plates and started trying to give us meat immediately. We had to ask them to give us a minute to at least have a few of the preliminaries.

I thought the salad was quite tasty this evening, but I've always liked the tangy dressing on there. The wings are very good and were nice and juicy tonight. The dumplings were done just the way I like them as well, with the skin just a tad bit on the well-done side to give them a crispy texture.

The servers were not to be denied and as soon as we said it was okay to do some meat they literally dumped copious amounts of everything on our plates. DW and I each agreed to only take one kind of meat each so that we could split them.

The meats were not overdone, which is a problem sometimes at 'Ohana, but because they gave me everything at once some of it was getting cold by the time I got to it. The we got to the star of the show:

The Bread Pudding remains one of my favorite desserts anywhere on property, and didn't disappoint. It's amazingly sweet and has just the right amounts of everything (Although I guess I wouldn't mind a bit more ice cream).

Overall the experience was pretty much in line with all my recent visits to 'Ohana:

- Good Food
- Great Atmosphere
- Terrible Service

Of course 2 out of 3 ain't bad and I'm sure we'll be back.

Thanks for the review Brad, too bad about the service bringing down an otherwise great dinner experience.

The only thing I can think of the servers acting they way they were was that they were trying to push people through quicker. Which really isnt right.... but that was one place where we got in and then out though... but man I want some Ohana right now!

Brad, you can ask for more ice cream, I heard someone do it the last time we ate dinner there. Also , don't let them push you around, your there for the duration, I tell them to stop with the meat till I'm ready. Wow could I go for some of that right now, Guess I tell Scrappy we are eating there in Nov! clapping laugh

Great review Brad! I ate at OHana for the first time this year and I really did love the food. I hear you on the service though. Now, we were there during the first two nights of the February ADR snafus, but still some very basic issues. We only saw our primary waitress once or twice, and she'd ask us a question and then turn to walk away assuming everything was just fine and we needed nothing. Also, when we asked to wait on meat so we could "catch up" it was like we were forgotten and we had to flag someone down from across the room to get some. Other than that, I loved it and will absolutely be headed back!

This is a great review of 'Ohana. I'm glad you mentioned their potential to overcook the proteins and I'm happy to hear yours came out right. When their firing on all cylinders, 'Ohana can be a wonderful experience.
