Okay, my turn to vent. I need a Disney fix bad!

Im sitting here on our front patio this morning waiting for contractors to come and start tearing up our walkway and what little landscaping we are aloud to have. sad

On Saturday we hosted a baby shower for the dil of our good friends that we take to WDW alot. There were approximatley 60 women here and 10 little kids. That went fine, even after the fact that scrappy discovered last Monday that shower she was hosting was on Saturday and not Sunday like she thought! Well, you can imagine how many times our toilets got flushed the day. I just want to state that our house is only 7 years old and we have never had any sewer problems.

To explain the story some, Brandy, the dil, thought she was going to a small shower at her inlaws house. To get her to our house on the day of the party, we set it up with her husband, Brain ( who works for a pumbing co.), that his father would call him after they left there house and tell him that we had a pumbing emergency and if he would stop at our house on the way to his parents and advice me what to do.

More coming........ I'm totally stressing out here!

Ugh! still waiting. The utility marker guy finally came and marked most of the untilities, but Verizons has not showed up yet to mark their lines. Looks like there will be alot of hand digging from what this guy said though. Utility lines cross every were.

Anyway, scrappy pulled off the shower with no hitches, all went well , everyone for the most psrt was happy and had a good day. The shower was at 1pm and I had to work at 3pm so I was only in the masses for a short time.

Well , Sunday morning we got up, scrappy was up first and went down , got her coffee and such and when I got up she metioned that the first floor powder room toilet was having issues and not flushing right. I figured it probably just needed a plunging with the amount of people that were here. I had my coffee and then tried plunging the toilet. It didn't help! Well I ran some water in the sink to see how that drained, it didn't, it just filled up!.

9:20 am - Still no contractors!

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/not-in-disney-world-anymore

Well I went to basement to see if I could tell were it was clogged and low and behold, all the lines were full and we had sewage leaking in the basement from the clean-out cap. Well I got on the phone and got a hold of Brian and told him what was going on and he said he would be over in about an hour with a big plunger from his work and that should fix the problem, he hoped. Of course when he told his sleeping wife he was going over to our house for a plumbing problem she just said , yeah sure right! Took a little to convince her that we really did have one now!

Well Brian got here and did his thing with the plunger, didn't work. Tried running a hose up the sewer line from outside. Didn't work. Had to call the main office he worked at and get and emergency on-call tech to come out with a snake to try and clean out the line. Didn't work, at first.

9:45, contractors are here, but Verizon and water company haven't showed up yet to mark their lines.

Now this all started around 8am on Sunday morning and the guy with the snake didn't show up till around noon. Well they snaked and snaked and snaked and it kept hitting something and i, so t wouldn't go any farther. The guy working the snake had said from the start he thought he heard stones rattling in the line. Well I was in the basement and I heard the sewer start draining, came up and told the workers what I heard. They checked and the the lines had emptied, but they didn't go down sewer past the vent. Well they tried to pull the snake out and it was now stuck. I dont know how long they fought with it because I had to go to work at 3pm. I called scrappy at home around 7pm and they had got snake out of the line but the ran all the water in the house and it drained, but they dont know were to, they just knew it wasn't going out the sewer line. They set up an appointment for someone to come Monday morning to run a camera up the line to try and find the problem.

Monday morning, 8 am I called my insurance to see if this was covered on my homeowners insurance, big fat NO! Thats an additional coverage if you want it and you have to ask for it, they don't just offer it.

Oh, Mr Hub, I have knots in my stomach for you and Scrappy! I'm so sorry! I hate when the unexpected like this happens. And I guess that not knowing what the problem is is the worst part.

Thinking of you both today! I hope that, after all that, it turns about to be something really minor...

YES! Excellent plan! Get away, take deep breaths. And please, let Scrappy know that I am very sorry about her tree. I know that hurts. We left 4 beautiful magnolias in Georgia when we moved to FL. I nearly cried over those trees.

From the sound of it you probably have had this problem for a while but all the people using the bathroom at once really helped to bring it to the forefront, sounds like the sewer pipe became shifted and became disconnected. Hope all turns out to be an easy fix. crossfingers

I'm confused..are they ripping up your yard because of the plumbing issues?!?! No good!!

I'm sorry that is awful..sometimes I hate being a responsible adult and having to take care of crap like "plumbing".

Yes Bella , when the camera guy came yesterday he found 2 ruptures in our sewer line. The unfortunate part is, we have a double foundation wall were the sewer line comes in to the house and were it goes out of the foundation it is under the concrete slap for our front porch and continues directly under the side walk the entire way which is about 30 feet. All concrete and the breaks are under that, somewhere. at the end of the walk is the sewer vent pipe which scrappy's tree is almost directly on top off and the line goes under the tree and then under the driveway. The one worker just said they were hoping to be done in 1 day, but if they have to hand dig everything, it will probably take about 3 days to complete. It just keeps getting better! Just hope the price stays the same, it's a big enough "Ouch!" as it is. crossfingers

Ugh! If it makes you feel any better it's been a stressful time for myself and many people I know too. I'm not even sure my stress is deserved, I think maybe I'm just "high strung" right now? You'll also be happy to know you're reinforcing my terror of owning property. laugh

Is there any way they can slip a new plastic liner inside the original pipe? The company I work for does that sort of thing quite regularly to refurbish existing mains.

Hi Tony, yeah thats what they are trying to do, but stones keep blocking the pipe. They are done for the day but they got there high pressure water hose stuck in the pipe now. This really sucks!. We can at least use our facilities sparingly.

MrHub I'm so sorry to hear all of this! You do need that Disney fix!

So what's the latest? Are you heading over to the neighbor's house to use the toilet yet?

Fingers crossed they get it all solved soon...and at minimal cost to you.

We're always here to vent to!!!

Hi everyone,
Hubs worked the midnight shift last night so he will not get a chance to update till this afternoon. We are now heading into day two of digging. They found a third break late yesterday afternoon. This one is up right in front of our porch. So today, they will pull up yet another piece of our sidewalk and dig yet again. This will have to be by hand too based on the amount of space they have to work.
They did tell us to go ahead and use our facilities last night but do it sparingly. Tony, I would love to know what your company would have charged for this. We did not shop around, we wanted it done and done quickly. We also really liked the warranty this company gave us with this job.
Hubs is going to have to remove the rest of our walkway lights this morning before he goes to bed. He had only pulled up the few down at the end of the walk. However, now the rest need to come up. I do have to say I am very glad to see my tree still standing this morning.
I watched most of the dig yesterday thanks to the live feed. Not sure if Hubs will set it up today before he goes to bed or not. Here is hoping the job is finished today!

I hope it's a quick process for you both, Scrappy! I know nothing about such issues...but isn't it a little strange that a 7 year old home would have 3 separate sewer breaks? Will there be an opportunity to discuss the issue with the builder, or can the plumber hazard a guess for the reason for the breaks?

I've no idea about the cost as it's a pretty big company and normally does miles of pipe at a time rather than yards.

Yeah Mase, I did one of those happy dances! yay yay

Well it ended up being fitting on the pipe that came apart being the major problem. The contractor said that the original contractor should have never used the fitting that they did, but the inspector that came to okay the job to be finished yesterday said that they approved that fitting because they thought it would be okay. My answer to that is NOT!

So trying to go back to make the contractor pay for this fix would not work because it was approved by the Township Code Inspector. What caused it to separate in the first place, god only knows, but its over, done, we can use our facilities and scrappy is happy. Thats all that matters, oh yeah, now I got to pay $800 to get the sidewalk fixed, thats on us too.

Glad to hear that it's all fixed and behind you now and all that is left is to put everything back the way it was before this. Look at the bright side, you won't have as much lawn to cut for a while. silly
