OKW Trip!

hi folks!
we made it to WDW in a little over 4 hrs, not sure why the flight was so short but we're here so who cares!
We have a room on the Fairway and there's a green right out there too.
After we checked in we went to Downtown Disney for dinner at Raglan Road.
We're off to Magic Kingdom today as my companions have never been to WDW sooo I just feel like they HAVE to
see Magic Kingdom first.

Sounds great DD! Glad you're there safely and have a great room. What a joy to be able to show the Magic Kingdom off to folks who have never been there (though I'm not sure I envy you too much during Spring Break)!

Keep us updated. I can't wait to hear all about your day. mickey mickey

hey all! we got up early and made it to Magic Kingdom by 815 for an 8am opening...
by noon we had ridden: Space Mountain, Tomorrowland Speedway, Haunted Mansion,
Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, Mickey's
Philharmagic, and the Monsters Inc Laugh Floor!
at noon we headed to the wilderness lodge ferry for our Whispering Canyon ADR at 1..then
we came back to the room for rest!
The kids are at the pool now which is why I am able to post a bit more. I just treated myself to
a key lime tart at Olivia's...(which they would NOT do "to go"...plus they insisted on not only seating
me but handing me a buzzer to wait for a table in an empty restaurant--only waited about 3 min
tho)... anyway, it was delicious!
They were talking about going on some rides again or possibly another park but I think
the 2 hours at the pool might slow them down a bit!

....pics when I get back!

There was an article in the Sentinel last week that crowds were surprisingly light last Sunday. I was v surprised. Hope the same holds for you! So the tart was good?

Saw the new Disney store that they're putting in Perimeter Mall (Atl.) today - thought of you! So bummed that I missed the opening by 5 days, tho - opens on the 30th. From the outside, looks really pretty, though.

I agree. I don't know the place but to not be able to take something to go is dumb.

I've heard crazy things about Olivia's regarding NOT doing to-go orders. What in the world?! Especially when it's a DVC resort and you know people have kitchen tables they'd rather eat around. Strange.

Love that key lime tart, though. Definitely worth waiting for!

ok ok I'm awake... lol

I have to see where I left off.. but allow me to sum up:

Me--on my 5th trip to WDW
one of my best friends--on her 2nd trip (first was in 1980)
her two kids (my godchildren): 12 year old girl, and 10 year old boy.--their 1st trip

soooo you can imagine we had a TON to see! I really wanted them to see as many highlights as possible, but still wanted to get to see MY must do's too! (which mostly revolved around food lol)
Crowds were not as bad as I expected (longest line was 1hr for each of the 3 mountains at MK in the late afternoon on Tues)... with some good planning we did get in most of the attractions at all of the parks. The big wrench in the plans was the crazy rainstorm!! First day of rain in a month they said... and boy.. did it rain!! it was crazy. More on that later lol...

ok let me collect my thoughts and select some pics to upload and I'll get to writing!!

ok like I said we arrived Thursday around 430pm.. got to the room in Old Key West by 530 or so. Here is our view...

Old Key West resort

We got one of the recently refurbished rooms...it was nice but I think I prefer the carpet over the hardwood flooring. And the table just looked like it was painted over, not really replaced. And the flat screen tv was nice but.. it's still hidden in that island soooo.. who cares if it's flat or not lol
Old Key West resort

We hung out a little then we headed out for dinner--flying cross country is tiring and makes me hungry! I had reservations at Raglan Road, but we were going to check out the wait line at T-Rex (you know, for the kids). When we got there.. the line to check in had to be at least 20 min so we just kept on walking to Raglan Road.
Now normally I'd have a burger here or the steak, but I decided I needed to try the Fish n Chips because the lady at the table next to me got it and it looked so good. Also, this way I can compare it to Rose and Crowns!
fish and chips, Raglan Road

the fish was huge and it was REALLY good...

then we just walked around Downtown Disney for a bit before heading back to the room. Early day at Magic Kingdom on Friday.. the kids were so excited about it that they were fine with going to bed!

We were up bright and shiny the next morning dispite the time change and made it to MK around 815am (they opened at 8a)

As much as I wanted them to take in the sights, I knew that we had to take advantage of the light early morning crowds and hit some rides! So we headed right over to Space Mountain, waited about 5 minutes (if even) then to the Tomorrowland Speedway...it was a gorgeous day

Tomorrowland Speedway

We then worked our way around to the Haunted Mansion, then Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise...
Ben was our skipper... he was very robotic and might as well have been reading the script.

 Jungle Cruise Skipper, Magic Kingdom

Then we headed back to Fantasyland for Mickey's Philharmagic, then Tomorrowland for Monster's Inc Laugh Floor.
Again, we either picked a good day, or people were lazy and didnt get up early, or I'm an excellent planner, but we got all this done by about 1215pm!
Then we headed out to the Wilderness Lodge for some grub!!

We took the ferry to the Wilderness Lodge (which by the way is a delightful little ride) and made our ADR at Whispering Canyon. I was excited because I think the place is so fun, but they were fairly empty and the waiters were all fairly subdued. I dont feel like we got the whole "experience" oh wellsies...
Three of us got the skillet.. deelicious!!
Whispering Canyon Cafe, Wilderness Lodge

After lunch we headed back to the buses to catch a bus to a park so we could get one to the hotel. (side note, they are refurbishing the bus area at Wilderness Lodge, so the temp stop is down by the resort guest parking lot)

Once we got back, the kids decided they wanted to go to the pool. I took advantage of the alone time and had a lovely all-you-can-eat-skillet induced nap. I went down to the pool about an hour later...
They loved the water slide!
Old Key West pool

I decided not to swim so I went to Olivia's for a Key Lime Tart. It was 5pm, so they said they had just started dinner. I told them I only wanted a Key Lime Tart but they wouldnt do it to go, AND they insisted I take a buzzer and wait for a table. I kid you not, there was ONE table seated and no one waiting!! So I stood there holding the buzzer, looking at them. Then like.. 3 min later it buzzed and they seated me. It was odd. I got my tart though! it was fantastic!

Then we went back up to the room to clean up and head back for the Electric Parade and fireworks...

We left Chewbacca in the room to watch Supernanny to get ideas about controlling a 10 and 12 year old...

Chewbacca watching Supernanny

We made it back to MK by 840p, so we just took a spot right there outside the tunnel near the Railroad station on Main Street. It was perfect.. the people in front of us sat the whole time so we had no one blocking our view

Main Street Electrical Parade

Main Street Electrical Parade

After the parade, we decided to ride the wave of people and move a bit closer to the castle.. we made it all the way up to that pin station just before the hub area.. it was a pretty good view.
At 945, the new show Magic, Memories, and You began.. and I've got to say.. I was impressed! We all really loved it! My first thought was "They need this at Disneyland!" (little did I know they already HAVE it there, they just project onto It's a Small World instead of the Castle) Make time to see this show.. it's very cool.

The Magic, the Memories, and You

We stayed put for Wishes at 10p (yay. fireworks. ho hum)

Wishes

Wishes

Then it was suggested we go to Space Mountain after the fireworks... dispite my objections and assertations that it would be crazy crowded we made our way over. I was right, the wait was 80 minutes. Soooo we went on Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin...

Guess who got the highest score you can get?? I DID!!
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin

After that was back to the room for bedtime... Saturday was Hollywood Studios day.. EMH opening at 8am!

ok Saturday... HS opened at 8am, but SOME people in my group were soooo sleeeeepy from their long day of MK and swimming and MK again.. so by the time we got to HS it was 8:50! But still early enough to get in ahead of the big crowd that had formed!!
So we booked it over to Toy Story Mania and got fast passes, then jumped in the stand by line for the 15 min wait...

Toy Story Mania, Hollywood Studios

After TSM, we headed back to the front of the park for Tower of Terror and Rock n Roller Coaster. The kids loved RNRC but they chickened out of Tower of Terror and didnt even get on it! waaahhh one of my faves Sad

Another nice day!
Hollywood Studio

By now it was around 11am, so we were starting to think food. We didnt have an ADR so I suggested Pizza Planet. My friend saw the price and the pizza and said "well for that, why dont we just try a real restaurant" so we checked Mama Melrose and they didnt open til 12p. So I said.. well let's go on Muppet Vision to kill some time and we'll try a walk in at noon. So while we were waiting the 15 min or so in the queue, I pulled out my R2D2 phone and made an ADR for 1215!! After Muppets we walked through the store and then went over to Mama Melrose where they seated us at 1205p!
Chicken Parmesan anyone??

Mama Melrose, Hollywood Studios

After lunch we took in the Lights, Motors, Action show and then went to use our fast passes for Toy Story Mania. Then we headed back for the backlot tour.
By then it was about 4pm and we had an ADR at Sci Fi diner for dinner at 6.. but my group was soooo tired and wanted to go back to the room... I told them if we go, we wont get back in time for dinner but they were ok with it. So back to the room we went.. and they were so tired they immediately went back to the pool! lol oh wellsies (again)
