online vs. regular registration

We will be checking into Port Orleans Riverside the first week in May. Has anyone used the online registration recently? Does it really make your check-in quicker and easier? How did those lines compare with the regular line? If you made a request for a specific room, etc. during the online process, did they deliver?

Any advice would be welcome. I could do the online if it really is better, but I'd really like a room in the mansions (don't care which one), and wonder whether it's better to actually talk to a person while checking in.

I used the online check-in in November. My wait at the resort wasn't long once I arrived. My check-in took a little longer because I asked if they could change the section they were putting me in. I had to wait for them to change my room.

I had indicated in my reservation which section I wanted (which they try to accomodate but don't guarantee). I wasn't able (or at least didn't see where) to put an additional note when I checked in online. I have read that if you want to request a specific room or building, you should call the resort directly before your arrival.

Thanks for the info. I had heard that you could indicate requests on the online form, but if you can't, then I can't see it would be much of an advantage. Our CAA travel agent did request the mansions for us when we booked, but we know that doesn't mean we will be put there. I've heard that sometimes the online check-in line is longer than the regular - I guess it depends on when you come in. We will be arriving around 1 p.m., and I'm not sure if that is a busy time or not.

i use it every time sometimes it is quicker sometimes not so much, it depends on how many people show up to the resort at the same time. i have always had luck with my requests though. it does not hurt to do it.

I use it but I don't know if it makes time go quicker checking because we check in at odd times. Like 10 am or 9 pm and usually the only ones at registration area. I think its handy and gives me something to do while waiting for my vacation to start.

I have used online check in for our past couple of trips and I found it to be speedy, but I didn't really have any room requests.

The truth is that the check-in lines will depend on how many people are arriving at the same time that you have and how many of them did the on-line check in. On-line check-in allows you to put up to 2 request but they are very general (i.e. want a aprticular section but not an specific room within that section) and as someone already mentioned they are not guaranteed.

What I have done in the past is to do the check-in online, put my requests and then right after doing this call WDW and talk to a Disney rep. and add more details to my requests. Out of the 3 times I have done it, 2 times my requests have been granted without a problem. The third time it was not due to a glitch in their system, but I was able to get very close.

PLEASE, remember that each person has a different experience with their requests. I just happen to have good luck in getting what I have requested.

Enjoy your trip and have a magical vacation.

Thanks so much Happy2BGoofy! The last time we went to Disney was 14 years ago, and we had barely bought a computer, never mind do online check-in! I think I will follow your advice, and do the online registration, and then call and confirm our request. We aren't particular WHICH mansion we stay in, so that should help maybe. If that doesn't work, no big deal - we will have given it our best shot.

Three weeks tomorrow until we go - I can't wait. clapping

We have done the On-line check -in many times and this past January when I had a special request for a specific building and floor, the only requests you could put in for on line was for a crib, refrigerator, and two other things that made no sense what so ever, so I checked in on line, then called the resort and requested the floor and building we wanted. Also let them know if you are celebrating something special, anniversary, birthday or what ever. We got exactly what I wanted, even though they could not guarantee it. It also depends on how popular you request is by others also. Thats why it is best to get to the resort as early as possible as it's always first come, first serve.

Unfortunately we are flying in, so we are at the mercy of Air Canada. They used to have early morning flights to Orlando, but now the earliest one we could find that works for our connections arrives at 1 p.m. I was thinking the online check-in might work better for us then, since the rooms are already assigned by the time we get there, and we wouldn't have to just take what was leftover. I haven't heard anything really negative yet about the online process, so I think we will give it a try.

We'll see how it works, and I'll let everyone know when we get back.

Fingers crossed for you that the Air Canada labour issues are resolved by the time you flight to Orlando. I don't know where you live in Canada but I always drive to Buffalo's International Airport. Flights are cheaper as they are considered domestic flights and travel via Blue Jet Airlines. Bags are transfer directly to the resort both ways!!! And you don't pay a fee for each of your bags (Bonus!).

Once more let the "Disney Magic" work for you and have an awesome trip!!!!

We live in London, and usually fly out of Toronto. There are not that many flights that go direct from London, except to Calgary and Halifax. But after all the drama in the past year with Air Canada, we are really considering crossing into Detroit and flying out that way. We go Westjet when we can, but chose A.C. this time because they offered us a free commuter flight up to Toronto. I googled everything I could think of before I booked - labour strife, Air Canada pilots strike, etc., and nothing came up.

Two weeks after booking, boom!! All the current nonsense started! gaah

My son has flown Porter to the east coast, and from his description, I wish they had routes EVERYWHERE! They sound like a retro (in a good way) airline, that still offers meals for free, wine, beer, etc., and actually have nice attendants. Remember those days? I'm so old I can even remember dressing up to get on a plane! biggrin

We haven't flown an American airline in years - any favourites besides Jet Blue? I've heard horror stories about United - lost luggage is their specialty apparently.

I actually like United, but over the past year they've been changing our flights before we travel (I usually book several months in advance) and it's starting to really annoy me. I wish that I could fly Virgin Atlantic from Chicago to Orlando.

Since I retired 13 years ago we have gone to Disney 4 times a year. Now that Jan is gone I still do. I have used on-line check in since Disney first started it and that's many times. It has alway worked fine for me and when at the desk I was always given the chance make any special request and given it if it was available.

Great answer. From the sounds of what everyone has said, there doesn't seem to be a reason NOT to do the online check-in. Thanks everyone for taking the time to tell me your experiences - you guys are great!
