Petition to Save Disney MMORPGS!

Disney announced yesterday they are closing 3 of their MMORPGs stating that they have a different focus for future development. Toon Town and Pixie Hollow will both close in less than a month, which seems ridiculous considering they are huge franchises making a ton of money. Some of this closing has to do with the platform they are on which considering the money they're towing in could be fixed with new regulations such as shutting down inactive accounts and revamping the system. Bottom line is this these MMORPGs were some of the most beautiful on the internet. They were great for all ages, non violent, and challenging experiences. Even if you dont play please help us try to save these games countless people love them children and adults alike.

My daughter, mother, and I are writing emails to Disney about this. We are also all signing the following petition.

Time is of the essence Disney has given a shut down date of less than a month out we hope if we generate enough buzz Disney will reconsider this rash decision.

If possible please sign this petition to save Toon Town, Pixie Hollow, and Pirates of the Caribbean:

From a purely business level Interactive has got to do some housekeeping and start turning a profit. Disney Interactive is bleeding money at a rate that would have closed down a smaller company in a matter of months. To say that they're making a ton of money just isn't supported by the facts. Disney Interactive took a $53 Million loss in 2013 Q3 - just quarter three. The entire division continues to be in trouble and limps along struggling to find its place, it is the only division of the Walt Disney Company that is not making money and it has been for years. The recent money makers for Interactive have all been in mobile, and the MMORPG that's performing best is Club Penguin. Right now they're praying that Infinity can get everything back on track but if something doesn't turn around soon more than the MMOs could be in trouble.

On a personal level - I'm so sorry to hear that this is going to effect you so negatively. We're a house full of gamers, so I get it. I'll head on over and sign the petition.

I believe that Pirates is one of the ones to go.

"It was announced today that on September 19, 2013 all of the Virtual Worlds games will be closing their doors. Disney is already in the process of issuing refunds to paying customers and will grant free Unlimited play on all three games until the deadline."

If they are already in the process of issuing refunds, there is not a chance of saving these. Its a done deal!

Disney shut down its facebook contact, its contacts for phone and email. I'm actually looking at my wedding contract to see if we can cancel I dont want my money going to a company that claims service then wont listen. I'm going to be very honest with all of you the behavoir on this was sudden, rash and stupid. It has made me very angry with a corporation that claims to be customer service oriented wont listen to their clients.

Those refunds arent what you think my mom paid 215 dollars on our accounts in june for her, me, and my daughter. Because its outside of 30 days she gets no refund on a 6 month contract. MY daughter has been in tears over this. I am a very angry customer.

Disney infinity was way over budget and delayed that is where they are losing their money.

Club penguin isnt owned by disney its partially owned thats why they cant shut it down. My family and I may seriously be through 100% done with disney after this for a number of other reasons. I am very disapointed in the poor behavoir on Disney's part with this. You could atleast listen to your customer's thoughts but they dont care. After years thinking this company cared the last 12 months has shown me no they really just dont. I would love to get my race fees, and wedding fees back. I really am after this latest move over it. I am sorry if that sounds harsh and angry but I feel very slighted when a company wont even take feedback or consider their customer's thoughts.

Oh and we never would have bought disney infinity, but I hope it tanks like the titanic. I am seriously over it 100%.

I understand change but I have issues with the type of change.

Disney canceled 3 lucrative comics when aquisitioning them.

They announced Thor then said no it cant happen.

They are closing lucas arts.

They are ending extra magic hours.

They keep the worst website they have because they cant close it.

They refuse to listen to their clients.

The disney store refurb here is a disaster with no appeal except to 4 year olds.

To say I am angry right now is not even the term I'm furious. I can seriously see Disney taking some hurt over the next few years.

I am sorry if I seem rash and angry but every time i turn around lately Disney is doing something I jsut cant justify or support anymore. I had a friend working for them who left very disgruntled and another who says this is just the tip of the iceburg. I really loved disney but seriously they are breaking my heart stomping it, and acting like a 15 year old who runs away. I just expected better from this company, and what I expected was wrong.

There are some rumblings that PH and TT maybe saved or rebuilt if we reach 5k signatures on the petition. Disney apparently is getting some flack. So what does it hurt? Please sign. If disney reconsiders I'll be very happy just for the consideration of really hearing our voices on this. That is my biggest gaff right now the shut out of our voices. The hollow was pretty packed today and people are so sad Sad. My daughter is sad too Sad.

No Eeyore, they are not, they cut them back some last year, but they have not said anything about cutting them all together.

For a second there, I thought the world had ended! eek

It's too bad about the games (never heard of them myself), but really now... they're games. With the short attention spans kids have these days, they'll be on to something else in no time. Disney World goes through changes like any other company. They've gotten rid of lots of things over the years that people enjoyed.

Regarding Extra Magic Hours, I had read that the parks would still be open the same amount of hours but there would be one less hour of EMH. So for example, if EMH used to be 9pm to midnight, they would now be 10pm to midnight. I was reading this on another forum so I'm not sure how true this is.

Here is my take on it from an actual gamer stand point...

I have never been into the Online MMORPG kind of stuff because I didnt like the pay to play aspect of it. I understand "Why" you pay the $10-$20 a month... just wasnt for me.

Now... as for these things like Pixie Hollow, Toon Town... Pixie Hollow from my understanding is the newest. Toon Town I can understand getting rid of. Thats been around for a while. Pirates from my understanding hasnt done well compared to that Pirates 101 game for kids. But Pixie Hollow is a bit different than all of them. Now... I did a bit of research... and I did come up with Pixie Hollow for the Xbox One and Playstation 4. For those who arent familiar with them... those are the next gen consoles coming out. I dont know how much water this holds... but they could be moving this to a console format. Its a cheaper venture because at least Microsoft for the Xbox One would host the game... not Disney. And with Sony's new infrastructure for online. That could be the same as well. So you could very well see this game in the form of a downloadable content for one of these consoles or both?

I cant see them canceling this one in particular without a good reason. All they have is Club Penguin, and that one seems to do well. But they were just advertising like crazy Pixie Hollow just a couple months back. I could be wrong... but im pretty sure they were. So I think they have something up their sleeves personally... and it could be for the next gen consoles.

But for the petition... I hit my friends up... so hope it helps.

This was actually reported on CNN today. Lots of rage out there about this particular topic. I don't profess to understand but maybe someone at Disney will take all the comments to heart.

So my DD14 (an avid gamer and MMORPG player though not with Disney) learned about yesterday and STARTED CRYING! I was like - really? She didn't even play them anymore because she had done everything she could for free and didn't like them enough to pay for a subscription. I guess she just has a lot of feelings about video games.

My kids and I had all played VMK (Virtual Magic Kingdom) when it came out and we were upset and mourned that loss when it happened. I know that there's a lot of gamer rage floating around over this.

It's a great buffer, but I hate to say, wrong. Disney is in no way hurting from their interactives. If they had been, they would have done something about it much earlier. They make these moves because of what they anticipate happening and are too smart to wait until it has gone that far. Interactive continues to be one of their strongest points. This move is to make way for something that is going to take a great portion of their man-power. It will be cool. eek

stars Hi Annichi, Hi KitKat Welcome to the WDWFG Forums! stars

Annichi - I agree that there will be something new down the line. My older daughter is looking forward to the Kingdom Hearts MMO that's out in Japan to debut in the US, and my guys are all looking forward to the new Star Wars MMO that's being done by EA. I know these don't have the same user base as the Virtual World games that are closing but it shows that Disney isn't out of the MMO mind set entirely.

It's true that Disney does think about money - but they are a business and do have to watch the bottom line. Just because a business makes people happy doesn't mean that it doesn't need to watch the business. All of the divisions are run independently and they can only operate at a loss for so long.

I have been thinking that we should keep on fighting. That we should do everything we can to make it really hard, if not completely impossible for Disney to ignore us. I was thinking about visiting as many blogs and forums as possible to get and KEEP THE MESSAGE GOING THAT WE WANT PIXIE HOLLOW WORLD BACK!!! We really have to be nice though since we don't want anyone to get mad at us. I think we should look for and use as many ways as we can to keep Disney well aware of how we feel.

We should keep going. We should continue to fight for Pixie Hollow. I plan to never give up on getting our Hollow back.

Perhaps we only lost the first fight, not the battle.

Perhaps the battle for Pixie Hollow...is just beginning.

I was like "Wait!....What?" about the Magic Hours! I did notice for my trip in February the Evenng Magic Hours is only two hour when I thought we went last year (Nov) they were 3 hours but I wondered if it was because it was February.
