POFQ

Still haven't booked our room yet for Nov 2012. Hoping to have some time to stop by AAA to do it soon (gotta get that AAA discount at least).

Any building I should request? We've never been to the resort. I have read it's small which I like. What else should we know? I'll most likely have an ecv because of my never healing ankle/heal and won't be able to walk much. We don't need an accessible room, but can't decide if it's worth it to pay extra for a king bed room. Will an ecv take up all extra space in a queen room? Not going to pay for a water view, this just seems silly to me since the window looks out on a shared walkway first so we always keep the curtain shut anyway. We are driving to FL but will probably turn in the rental (trying to save wear and tear on our cars) and re-rent when we drive home unless it doesn't cost too much to keep it the full 10 days. I'm assuming buses are similar to Pop since they don't share another resort (accept sometimes riverside).

I read they do mardis gras at the pool? Also, how is riverside? I know we want to check out Ye Ha Bob (or whatever his name is).

We want to take the boat to DTD.

Anything else? Pics, to-do's, etc you have would be great. Will get into true planning mode Jan 1 as apposed to dreaming mode! mickey

We stayed at POFQ this past May. Cannot say enough good things about it. Our room was beautiful, very comfortable new queen size beds. Our kids LOVED the pool. They didn't do Mardis Gras at the pool but it all designed around that theme. Riverside is actually my favorite. I love the lush gardens and mansion buildings. You cannot go wrong with either. POFQ is smaller than Riverside and the bus wait time is much less. Riverside has a larger eating area. It basically comes down to what theme you prefer.

My husband and I stayed at POFQ for our honeymoon in March 2009. We absolutely loved it. We got a king size room near the pool, but not overlooking it. We didn't hear any noise from the pool at all. We loved the size of the FQ as opposed to Riverside, and I agree with Poppet that the wait time for the bus is much less. I think you will love it!

Hi Katrina. I echo what the others have said - love POFQ! We stayed there in 2008 and 2010, and will be there again in 2012.

Here's a link to some pics from our 2008 trip:

and some from our 2010 trip:

In 2008 we were in Building 7 with a corner room overlooking the Sassagoula river. The morning and evening views were great. In 2010 we ere in Building 6, again overlooking the river. We didn't request a river view, just got it. Liek you, we keep the blinds closed most of the time, but to wake up, step out the door and see the peaceful river view was nice Smile

We liked both locations. Building 7 is the further of the 2 away from the pool and main area, but it's not a far walk. And it's very green and lush.

The rooms were refurbished after our 2010 stay, and I hear they are even nicer now. Looks like Poppet got to enjoy that!

We liked the pool, but I never saw a Mardi Gras thing going on at the pool, but we only used it for an hour or some in the middle of the afternoon each day.

There's a walking path over to Riverside, which is a nice stroll. But we only went over there to check out the food options, and didn't really do much more there.

It's become our favorite moderate, and I think you would be pleased with it! Hope that helps.

JeffC, can't see your pix at work mad I'll look later, thanks!

I guess the mardis gras thing I read maybe doesn't exist or isn't a big deal.

So can't wait to check things out.

Do you think the king bed adds more room?

Another POFQ fan here. I'm sure I'd love a deluxe resort if we chose to spend our $ that way, but as a moderate it's great. The smaller size gives it a sort of cozy feeling impaired to the Riverside. Though we enjoyed POR very muh as well.

I can't wait to get back in FEB to see the renovations.

I think we had king beds for both stays, so I really can't make a comparison with 2 queens. Though I would guess it gives a little more room, but maybe not a substantial amount. Anyone else able to provide perspective on that?

I've stayed in both a king room and a 2 queen room. I found them both fairly spacious. I agree with JeffC that a King room might have a bit more space but it's not a huge difference. Excuse my ignorance, but what's an ecv?

It's an amazing resort and I'd suggest having dinner at POR Boatwright's restaurant as they have delicious cornbread!

Thanks JeffC! When I googled ecv i found this

I thought that might be a little big to fit in a room but incredibly awesome to drive around Disney World!

We did the boat to DTD several times. It's neat, but it can be very slow. You might want to take the bus back, it can get cold out on the water on a winters eve. My understanding is that they do an actual parade on Mardi Gras, staff decorating carts and such.

Do you have this link?

Having been to New Orleans, I didn't feel particularly compelled to take pix.

My feeling: Don't expect much from the quick serve restaurant, and you won't be disappointed. If there is anything you want me to check on in Feb, chirp up and I'll try to get you a good answer.

Wow, I'd much rather bring the fiat than a scooter as my ecv, lol!

I guess we'll save the $ money and go with queen beds since they don't seem to take up more space.

The quick serve restuarnt doesn't make much of a difference to us. We'll have cereal, etc in our room for breakfast and we will always be out for other meals. We mainly use it for the refillable mug and a snack or two.

I've checked out the Unofficial fan site too thanks.

Good afternoon!

I stayed in POFQ from December 8-15, 2004, in room 3144 (building 3, first floor, room 44). It is a very compact resort; and yes, you can take the launch to DTD, which passes the Treehouse Villas before depositing you at DTD Marketplace, right in front of Ghirardelli's Chocolate Shoppe (therefore I knew I was in trouble!).
