I will bet I know where you will be using your DVC points. As a matter of fact I will check it out on my DVC points as well. I figure at LEAST 2 or 3 years of construction time from the time they start said construction. Actually the more DVC places the better I like it, Variety is the spice of life. Smile

Depends on how much it costs. If its more than Wilderness Lodge.... nope... lol

But I love the idea....

Interesting... the Poly is my favorite, and I'm hesitant to embrace any changes there. However I know that there are some serious issues with the Ceremonial House. It would be fantastic for them to add DVC, the rates that the monorail resorts are going for though are mighty extreme.

I know that my family needs to add on points, but I think it may be a better option for us to add on more points to our AKL contract and try to switch at the 7 month mark. I would totally stay at DVC Poly, but I'm not so sure that I'll buy there.

****UPDATE****

Pete Werner just announced on the DisUnplugged Live that 20 'bungalows' of one and two bedrooms each are going to be built starting this year at the Poly. They will extend out into the water and be accessed via a dock. The assumption is that these will be DVC.

From the Tikiman's FB page -

Quote:
Well I see the cat is partly out of the bag with some information getting out about DVC. The report mentioned 20 bungalows (more like Tahitian huts) built out over the water at the Polynesian and it would start this year. Well from what I heard it was 15 Grand Villas off the shore of Tahiti and it would not be part of the initial phase of DVC but a later phase. If it is true they are starting this year (which I don't know I believe) then maybe it is just to prep the under water foundations. I guess we will find out since Disney does not announce schedules very often. That is all the DVC details I can share at this point but save up your money if you want to get into one of those.

Was I also reading here about the rumor of DVC at Fort Wilderness? Or was that something that I found while searching for DVC leaks and cracks on the internet?

The Fort Wilderness Rumor has been going around since before the Grand Floridian Construction started. My guide was actually surprised that GF began first. Poly has always been what guests were clamoring for but where to build them has been a problem. They were doing line of site studies there a couple of months ago and everyone has had their fingers crossed.

Only 20 bungalows!? That would be the smallest DVC property to date and near impossible to get into if you didn't own there. Grand Californian only has 50 lock-offs and that's a hard room to book if you don't do it at 11 months. I want to be excited but instead I think I'm a little sad. Oh my gosh, the point cost for that (both to purchase and per night) would be outrageous. I would love to stay there, I've been dreaming of DVC there right along with everyone else but I'm not so sure I'd ever be able to get in. :-/ I bet they sell out in a snap of the fingers.

I agree...this would be practically impossible to get into unless you own there. There go my Poly DVC hopes. My interest is now piqued about the Fort Wilderness DVC. Being a newbie (and hopefully new owner soon) to DVC this will now require research on my part - but not complaining Smile

Was that 20 to start with and then maybe more later? Sounds like different phases? Am I reading that wrong?

That will be absolutely impossible to get. And you are right, probably not a real economical use of my mere points. I have to try to stretch them into 1 week per year and a 2nd week every other year.

But I can't help but think that it would be SOOOOOO worth it to try just once! Built over the water, AWESOME!

That is all that has been said so far , and nothing official from Disney yet. Not even sure if the bungalows are DVC or not.
As far as I am concerned, it's still all rumor till I hear it from Disney.

Those buildings I put in are from some old concept art of what might the Poly might have originally been like. I actually like the first drawing. Leaves most of the original resort still intake, can put a nice signature restaurant on the top floor and have a lot of MK view rooms.

HOW EXCITING!

Now, if the points are going to be high per night, which they will be, I am afraid that I may not be able to stay a whole week here. Or I will have to do my best to convince DH that we need more points. biggrin

I'm going to need to start playing the lottery!! Those over the water villas would be AWESOME! It **might** be hard to leave the room to hit the parks!

YES! I will never be able to afford that, not even for 1 night I am sure! But I want to walk by them. Just to see how it would feel to stay there! rolling

I'm not a DVC member (yet!) so I don't totally understand how it works. The Polynesian is my favourite themed resort, so lets say I win the lottery and decide to buy Polynesian DVC points. Do I get priority booking over DVC members with other home resorts? How far in advance can you book your home resort? What advantages would there be to owning Polynesian points rather than a different resort?

If you bought DVC Points at the Polynesian, you would be able to book at the Polynesian starting 11 months in advance or your travel date. You would be able to book at all other DVC resorts 7 months prior to your travel date.

I personally think that buying your DVC points at the location you wish to stay at most frequently is the best option. That way you always know you can get a room at your 11 month mark. mickey

Kristen is right. Any DVC owner can book their HOME resort at 11 Months. It is a 7 Month booking window for any DVC owner to book at a resort other than their home resort.

So owning at the Poly would give you a HUGE advantage! But, each resort has different point values per night according to the type of room you want. It takes less points to stay at some resorts, some are considerably lower. When you buy into DVC you buy points. So you have to figure ahead of time how many points you think you will need to vacation as you would like to.

Just for an example, a studio at Boardwalk Villas Standard View and Old Key West for Sep 28 - October 4th would be 63 points for the stay. Those same dates at Bay Lake Tower standard view - 89 points. The highest are Wilderness Lodge and Beach club at 91 points for those dates. The Villas at the Grand Floridian and now this new Poly deal will probably take considerably more points per night. One cost often overlooked are the maintenance fees, you pay those per point, annually. And the maintenance fees are different at each resort.

Kristen and WDWfanatic, thank you for the information. You answered my question really well. It is the maintenance fees that put me off DVC. For the cost of the maintenance fees alone, you could book several nights in a value or moderate resort. I just can't quite get the numbers to work for me (unless I win the lottery laugh )

Miss Mikki,

DVC is not for everyone. While we are happy with Values and Moderates, we can pay about the same with DVC and stay in upgraded (Studio) accommodations. We still stay at Values and Moderates when we are shy on points or are trying to bank points into the next year. We still have the goal of staying at every resort. I don't see us giving up specials like free dining anytime soon.

Just a side note on this that could possibly point to these rumors being true. I was on the Disney Weddings website last night and they have removed the majority of references to any wedding on the beach at the Polynesian. It used to be listed for several different packages, and now - not so much.

It could just be coincidence, or it could point towards construction starting on or near Luau beach.

DVC at the Poly might just be enough to get us to buy more points. I hope the rumors become 'fact' muchlove

The Poly DVC rumors are changing drastically now from what was originally said. Now I think it's down to just taking over one Longhouse and building those bungalows over the water which I truly think are ridiculous because the water is pretty nasty and you can not swim in it. If you could dive off your balcony that would be different.

Last time we were there watching the fireworks, I was astounded at the number of people who let their kids play in the water right beside the NO SWIMMING OR WADING sign!! Sometimes I just shake my head!!

The drunk couple wading in it, I guess they just had blurry vision and didn't notice the sign! yuck

I saw those changes - they dropped the new pool complex too, which made me very sad. Like Grand Floridian it's like they said "how cheap can we make this place without adding any real value to the DVC Member." Then, there are so few of them that will be added they're going to cost a gazilion dollars to buy and even more points to stay. I completely agree about the water not being nice enough for the bungalows. The concept is cool, but the Seven Seas Lagoon does not equal the beautiful blue waters of the South Pacific.

Those over the water bungalows also killed off the Polynesian as a Wedding venue because they are going to go around Sunset Point. That's made many people who have dreamed of weddings there for years very upset.

Honestly - you can only push people so far into stupid before the market stops bearing out. I'm really unhappy with the choices that DVC has been making and yet the prices keep going up and up.

Yeah this is really getting depressing withy the choices they are making, but we won't really know until Disney makes an official announcement.
