POR or POP

What do you think? First time visiters. Middle Age adults no kids. POR or POP Century?

Hi Dewey3 and welcome to WDWFG's. Seriously, I would do the POR, I have not stayed there, but have heard its very nice. I just don't like the POP resorts at all. Maybe because there are to many kids! Wife and I are in our late 40's, haven't taken any kids for years, and we usually stay in Poly or SSR (DVC home). Have you been to WDW before. Either way you'll get some great advise here.

Hi Dewey, I'm fairly new here myself.
Have stayed in POP C a couple of years ago and found it was OK. Yes there were lots of kids but it was manageable in low season. POR is a 'moderate' resort while POP C is a 'value' resort, so not really comparing like with like. I'd choose to stay in the best hotel my budget will allow.

Hiya Dewey3! Welcome to WDWFG mickey

I'm agree with MrHub and Tony here. I've stayed in POR and POP and liked them both, but if you can swing the cost for the moderate resort (POR), I'd definitely pick that.

You get the added benefit of a boat to Downtown Disney, and you can use the pool and food court over at Port Orleans French Quarter, too. It's like getting two resorts in one.

Congrats on your upcoming trip! When are you headed to Disney World?

I think it depends mainly on how much time you're going to spend in the room. My opinion is that if you're only going to be sleeping there, stay with POP. You can spend that money somewhere else. If you like to relax in the room then I find the step up to moderate is worth it. It would also depend on which place was offering the best deals. We usually have an AP discount, so sometimes we just follow the best deal.

Welcome to the board! I tend to agree with dsoup in theory that it depends on your priorities, but ultimately I always find the Value resorts don't have quite enough "magic" for me. POP is definitely the best of the values IMO and I can easily justify staying there but I think POR is just a better experience overall. Almost always worth the money to me.

Also, welcome to the boards!

It really seems that you get what you pay for with Disney. I recommend starting with your budget and working from there. Do a little research on what everything else will cost you - food, etc. and see what you can manage. Checking specials is a good idea too. Folks on this board helped me learn about a gift card special that will now cover many of our meals on the trip. This allows us to reserve a better hotel.

Natalie, I fell the same way. I get frustrated with some of the people that I here saying " They should have given us something for as much as we paid for this trip!" . I have heard that more then once! Thankfully, there probably the ones that only go once and never again!

clapping We are back and had a great time. POR was great. We had to stay 2 extra days (actually arrived early) because of snow. They were great about it. Thanks for all the help.

So glad to hear, Dewey3, that you had a nice time at POR. That is our all time favorite resort, although DH and I both enjoy Pop when we're trying to keep to a budget. We spent a week at POR last summer and it was wonderful!!

Glad you had a good time. It's always such a bummer when you "have" to stay in Disney World for an extra two days. laugh

Hey Dewey! Thanks for the report! I love POR, but haven't been there for a LOOONG time. You've definitely rekindled my interest in checking it out.

Only problem: they still have double beds, don't they?

Welcome Dewey,
We always try to get to POR on every trip we make.(About 4 times a year.) We like to stay a Pop Century but are only there to go to sleep and have breakfast then head for other resorts. POR French Quarter Is one of the only places I can get a cheese steak sandwich.
Get up some pictures.
Joe
