Okay I've been seeing these ranking polls and I thought it would be good to try one of them out, so rank your order of what you think are the best months to visit WDW.

Great minds think alike! Or just really want to go to Food and Wine and not in the hot and crowded summer
July remains quite unpopular
I ranked them as follows:
December
October
November
May
April
January
February
March
September
June
August
July.

Ooh! Fun!
October (F&W Baby! And autumn decorations)
December (The promise of all that Christmas + maybe some not-as-hot temps)
November (The first view of the holidays)
January (low crowds, cool weather)
February (crowds still nice and low usually)
September (hot, but low crowds - noticing a trend?)
March (beginning of Epcot Flower and Garden Fest, before it gets too hot)
May
August
April
June
July
I'm clearly very motivated by crowds and temperature But I love the special occasions, too.
I had a hard time deciding between August and April! At the end of both months, the crowds are lower, but it's SO hot in August and April can have some remaining spring breakers...

Yep - Oct only beats out Dec though because of F&W and lower crowds in my book. I still love Christmas at WDW, but it can be a zoo!
Has anyone ever been to Disney over Labor Day weekend? I read somewhere that there's a good chance the parks will be filled to capacity and stop admitting by early afternoon, but I've also read that it's quiet compared to other holidays and not really much different from normal summer crowds - such conflicting reviews!

I think this last year they shut the gates during labor day, but I'm not positive. There were a lot of surprising gate-shut days this year though, so I'm not sure how much that tells you.

Labor Day is technically the last weekend of summer so people are trying to get their fix. I am not surprised that parks fill that day.
Oh dear! Oh well, at least after that weekend it will be quiet though for the rest of my trip (fingers crossed!). I have a couple of friends that might be joining for a few days at the beginning who have never been to a Disney park before, and I would hate for the majority of their trip to be spent in heavingly busy parks if Labor Day weekend fills to capacity! I'll have to warn them...

Do you think they'd have fun doing stuff outside the parks? If it's crowded we tend to just do stuff that isn't in the parks.
Yeah that's a good point, I'm sure they would - perhaps we could hire a car and go to the beach or something (although I'd imagine the beaches will be pretty busy on Labor day too!?). It seems a bit daft arriving to Disney World and then immediately going somewhere out of it when they have never been before, but if the crowds are really going to be that bad then it's probably a sensible idea! It's so strange how different people's experiences of crowd levels on labor day are!

You can also do fun stuff that isn't in the parks. We love to go resort hopping and check out the activities and little touches at all the resorts, for example.

Good idea. Maybe a laid back pool day? Or you can finally try a resort restaurant or two or mini-golf? I agree - it's hard to think of immediately leaving on arrival. And yes, the beaches can be crowded (although not always...so weird.) BUT the good news is that the locals are back in school well before Labor Day, so after the holiday, it really should be nice and quiet for you.
While I enjoy it, I don't really think they would really be into the idea of resort hopping. Mini golf is a definite possibility though! On further investigation, most places I look seem to be saying that Labor Day isn't bad for crowds, even last year (?!?!?!?), so maybe it'll just have to be a case of heading to a park and hoping for the best, and if it's too busy then going golfing. I wonder if the staff at the hotels are able to find out for your before you leave the hotel if any of the parks are superbusy/not admitting any more guests? Probably.
Peg -- They'll know if the parks are too busy, but you shouldn't find that to be the case on Labor Day. It might be slightly more busy than another day in Sept, but it won't be bonkers crazy with people. One thing you can plan in advance for when your friends come is dining -- any ideas where you'll take them?
Well they aren't definitely coming yet, but if they do come I'm not sure where I'd take them...maybe Via Napoli? That would be a new one for all of us. Or maybe Boma. Maybe a more fun one too like Sci Fi Diner or Prime Time Cafe. I'm not sure really, I haven't thought about any of that yet! They only said very recently that they might come join us for a bit. Any recommendations for a group of 20-somethings on a bit of a budget (Bearing in mind one of us - me - is one of those vegetarian types ) are welcome!
Peg when are you going in Sept, we are going to be there over Labour Day weekend as it's my birthday.

Peg -- I think Boma is a great choice. Good for vegetarians and everyone else loves it, too. If you want to stay less expensive, Beaches and Cream is really fun, and you can share the kitchen sink sundae!
Annie - Do you have to make an ADR for Beaches and Cream, or can you just stroll in? I have heard of the notorious kitchen sink
Beaches and Cream is just a walk-up and it's HIGHLY recommended. I really enjoy the food as well as the ice cream. Nothing is terribly edgy as far as the food, but it's a tasty burger and I love the chili.
Justcar - We're going Sept 3rd - Sept 17th. Are you just there for the weekend?
OOOoo, we are arriving Sept. 16th for a week!
