The Reality Sinks in...

Howdy folks...Well last night before heading off to bed we watched our last trip to wdw ( 2012 ) which we have on a CD..And I thought about how lucky we were to even having experienced a Disney vacation,my memory drifted off to an old friend who kept putting it off,not because he couldn't afford, anything but, then he got ill ,and passed before his 50th birthday leaving a wife and wee boy behind..So this week we decided to grab the bull by the horns and take advantage of Disney's 40% offer!booked WL and then took advantage of Virgin Atlantic flight sale, and the rest was history...Signed, sealed, and done in less than two hours..It slowly sank in that night that not only were we heading back to our favourite destination in the world,we had booked our first deluxe resort and flying with UK's number one airline..Today we logged onto My Disney Experience. Com..and customised our magic wrist bands and it's now sinking in that yes, we are heading back for 12 nights (13) days..So when does the reality hit you when you plan a Disney vacation.?.. yay

For me, that solid satisfaction comes when I finally have a room/package confirmation, AND a flight confirmation - there's no going back then, so the vacation becomes real. Getting vacation time for us has always been a hassle, and it's hard to nail down those days. DH supposedly retired last January, and I was looking forward to actually being able to book holidays whenever we liked, wherever we could afford. But Peter doesn't deal well with retirement - he drove himself (and me!) crazy, so he is doing contract work now. So, back to the uncertainty of when we will get to go. I have been running different vacation times, flights, hotels, on the Disney site for months now, but right now it's still just a 'maybe'. When I finally have those confirmations printed out and get a ticker up, I promise there will be dancing bananas! biggrin

For me, it's usually once the airfare is paid for. That's often my largest hurdle and once that is cleared and I have a flight booked I know that I'm really going!

I always book my trip directly from the Disney website. So it would be when I log in to my account and begin making my choices.

For me its the flight, as soon as that is booked everything else can fall into place, although we usually have the accommodation booked first its the flight that really sets it in stone.

I agree that when I book the flight. I feel set in stone.

We always book a timeshare exchange when we go to Orlando, and once you've booked it there's no going back - no refunds, no exchanges, nothing. So once we've got our resort confirmed I know it's definitely going to happen.

(Well, unless something comes up and I have to stay home while hubby goes alone. It still happens, just not for me.)

I book directly thru the Disney website..so when the final payment is made,
that's when I know- It's Real!

Then I start figuring out how to pay for airfare eek

Each time we have booked it has been a different.

This time we had some accommodation and the cruise booked a year ago, but it didn't feel real until the flights were booked about 10days ago, now there are no changes/no refunds and it is definitely happening.

After everything is paid for including the package, transport and all that stuff and I realize I'm close to finishing packing all my stuff a few days before I leave, that's when it starts to sink in.
