After reading subvets post and checking out his link to the song he sings to Jan, it reminded me of this....................
I'm posting a link to a video we made about six years ago, just after my father sold our farm that had been in our family for over a hundred years and also the business that he had owned for over 35 years. I had worked with my father for 30 years and ran heavy equipment for him for 25 years. It was a rather big shock to us when he told us the news that he had sold the farm and we had to move. There were two original houses on our farm, one my dad rented out and one he lived in. My wife scrappy and I put a double wide trailer on the farm in about 1982 and we raised our two wonderful boys on that farm also. We were able to live on the property after my father sold it to a developer because part of the sale was that we got a new townhouse out of the deal and my was keeping his house on the property because it was set way back on the property, out of the way of were the townhouses were going. The incredible part about this story is that our town house is sitting right on the spot were I proposed to my wife in 1978.
My father ended up not staying in his house, I think it was too heartbreaking for him to see everything tore up by the construction, the trees that my grandfather had planted when my father was born, when I was born and the beautiful oaks we had planted together all cut down without hesitation. You have to understand thought; our driveway was a 1/4 mile long off the road. We were used to not having close neighbors.
It's still hard to hold back a tear everytime I play this video, but I'm glad to have had the time that we did on that old property and to have shared it with my wonderful family.
