Resort Hopping

Have you done it? What was your experience? What are your recommendations?

Last year my son, and I started at Animal Kingdom Lodge ( Jambo House) for 4 nights, then spent 4 more at The Boardwalk, finishing off our stay with 4 nights at Coronado Springs, for his graduation. I have to say I enjoyed tham all, and all for different reasons.
A few years back, we started at The Pop Century ( do to plans with family in Florida falling thru), so spent a few days there, then started our actual WDW vacation at the Jambo House. My kids were younger then, but they enjoyed the food court at the POP more than the Mara ( although he couldn't get African Stew at the Pop), but they obviously loved the savannah view at AKL more than pool view at the Pop.
This January, the DW, and I are doing an adults only trip starting with a DCL cruise, then going to OKW, and BWVs for a week each.

I like them all so far, for various reasons, but if I put them in order of preference, Coronado would probably be on the bottom of the list,.. so far.

We stayed at The POFQ and then moved over to AKL. Disney makes that so easy. I enjoyed not having to move our own bags.

We usually stay at POFQ our entire stay, but we have also been to most of the other hotels for dining. We try new restaurants every trip. We have been to all the resorts at least once and are trying to visit each restaurant at least once. That is a work in progress. Going to the different resorts for pictures and dining is one of our favorite things to do while we are there.

I've never hopped from one resort bed to another, but I have toured a few of the hotels and 'hopped' that way, on and off transportation etc. I find the monorail loop easiest to tour if you want to do it for a few solid hours. The other resorts are easier to head to with regards to their proximity to the park you're either in or planning on going to. For example you want to see AKL? It's 5 minutes from AK, etc.

I do love touring the other resorts, especially around the holidays! awesome

Jess and I may or may not do it for our trip by ourselves. I think we may just stick with the one... which will hopefully be Boardwalk.

Karlipants, were you talking about staying at multiple resorts or visiting them for the day?

I try to go resort hopping on arrival day, I usually do the monorail loop and stop at all three of those. I'll make a dinner ADR at one of them, and have cocktails at another, perhaps dessert at a third. It's a fun way to kick off my vacation by eating, drinking and shopping my way around the Seven Seas Lagoon. I usually catch the electrical water pageant that night as well.

As far as changing the resort that I stay at on vacation, we don't usually do that. But I highly suggest starting the vacation at the lower cost resort and moving up to the higher cost resort. I know if I went from a deluxe down to a value on vacation it would be depressing. LOL!

I was wondering the same thing. Do you mean hopping to visit resorts or changing resorts during your stay?

LOL - I meant visiting different resorts on an "off" day... But found what everyone was saying to be interesting so I just didn't say anything... We are spending 10 days at Wilderness Lodge this Feb and I really want to take at least one day to do some resort hopping... I have heard that the monorail loop is a great way to see some of the deluxe resorts... I'd also like to do the Epcot area resorts... And then i'd like to check out some of the DTD area resorts as well... Just wondering how everyone else did it... I know that we are definitely going to do the monorail loop.... And I want to take the boat from DTD to POR and PFQ...

Are there any resorts that you guys think are definitely worth checking out? I've been to the Epcot area resorts but DH hasn't... And we went to dinner at narcoosee's a few years ago.. What are we missing out on? What are some hot spots at the resorts? I'm really curious and excited to visit the different places!

I've found that the best way to resort hop is to just see what's nearby the place that you're already at unless you're making a specific thing out of it (like the monorail crawl, which we're doing arrival day).

Since we're staying at Pop we also plan to wander around AoA (last time I saw the area it was still the ghost of Legendary Years, can't wait to see it now). We'll probably hit up the Boardwalk resorts and some of their lounges after a night at DHS since it closes on the early side. And the Fort Wilderness area would make a nice break from the park when we're at Magic Kingdom.

Every resort in WDW is worth seeing. That is all Jan and I ever did. Never spent more than 2 day in the parks out of 56 trips to Disney. Once in 1971 and once in 1989. To visit all the resorts plus downtown Disney you will need at least 5 days. It's a way to enjoy the World like very few people ever do and it's amazing how wonderful it is. Also you get to eat in so many different places without ever having the worry of making reservations. You will also save BIG bucks.
