The Resort Must Eat/Drink...

Just reading today's food blog and the article on the Poly's O'Hanna's bread pudding now available at Tambu lounge..I've heard many people rave about it..Just like the Lapu Lapu from the same resort..So it got me thinking..What resort goodie..food or drink is a must on your stay..At POFQ I would nominate the Beignets..At PORS my nominee would be the MCB..Over to you good people..Anxious to hear the nominees for WL..

I think that most of my "must eats" are Poly related, a Lapu Lapu, Macadamia Nut Pancakes, and if we're just getting drinks at the Poly ordering the bread basket is a must. It's our usual first stop on the monorail crawl and we need something in our tummies.

I wouldn't dream of staying at the Wilderness Lodge without breakfast at Whispering Canyon for a platter to share.

Over at Kidani Village the Naan at Sanaa is amazing and fresh out of the tandor. For that matter the Tandori Chicken is pretty awesome.

Well, let's see. We don't eat at resorts THAT much, so we are trying more this time.

DH says the cinnamon almonds outside the Canadian Pavilion,(oops not a resort) but I can't help noticing there is a substantial amount of chocolate being taken home (or consumed later) - the darker the better from every place we hit. He fills bags at all the places for friends with the same incurable addiction. If there is dark chocolate at a resort store it's....doomed.
He looooovvvees choc croissants so he is hoping they have them at POFQ.

We have eaten at Boma's twice and I notice that he is in love with their beef, usually was prime that had wonderful seasonings. I love the chix curry soup as well, but again those wonderful desserts.

For me: Dole Whips (oops park again), key lime pie, mango pie (hmmm a lot of dessert I realize), and Beignets!!!!!
I have a Mickey waffle maker, so no waffles orpancakes, but I love the strudel mini loaf (which again I can make myself);; it's warm and someone else made it for me. For me the mini fruit cheese cakes are worth putting into a bag and carrying home, smashed and all. It's the other reason we love Wishes Dessert Buffet because I can get my fill with those fruit cups and choc covered strawberries.

One thing I must clarify is that we have for the past 30 years lived in a VERY rural area. There were celebrations when the first fast food place went up. In our little burg outside of the bigger burg, we have ONE cafe that closes at noon and a bar that serves burgers (heavily laced with "colorful" language) That's it! So we are thrilled with choices and variety and willing to try new things.

Well, I am looking forward to the pasta at Riverside Mill, and the specialty burger at POFQ. Hopefully, DD and I will be able to split a MCB for the first time tomorrow! yay

I know I'm in the minority, but I don't want to eat the same things every time I go. Of course, we go for the day instead of a week at a time, so that probably has something to do with it. The goal this year is to eat something new and different each time we go.

One thing on my list to try next time we are there is the cheese fondue at the Territory Lounge at WL. Didn't know it existed until I saw it on Disney Food Blog a little while back. Looks phenomenal.

I've tried several attempts to make this delish thing..The only different thing was when to pour the condensed milk on..After the biscuit mix or right at the end..To be honest..Both attempts were quite good but nothing like the real McCoy...

Flying Fish is #5 on my list of signature restaurants on property. Good food and service. I really like the crab cakes, snapper, and the NY strip(better than the steaks at Yachtsman IMHO). My only issue with FF is the noise, as its tends get pretty loud. Enjoy!

Love the Flying Fish! Scrappy gets the Filet, I love the Fish, usually get the specials which are all unique. I like the dining room better than the tent room in the back. Closer to the Kitchen the better. If we can't get into the Cali Grill, I want the Flying Fish! awesome

In "Nestle Land" it is called The Dream Bar. My mother has made if for years and it is so good it is forbidden in our home. Much like the famous girl scout cookie (my brain thinks the whole pan/box is a single serving....sigh).

Here is Nestle's but my mom adds butterscotch chips also: http://www.eaglebrand.com/recipes/details/?RecipeId=3934
Here is Disney's version: http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2013/02/26/snack-series-and-recipe-the-magic-cookie-bar-at-disneys-wilderness-lodge/

From the pic I see one big difference! My mother wouldn't bother with colored sprinkles after all that chocolate, butterscotch, and well....sugar.

For my dream stay staying at the AKL, I have in mind: zebra domes, African stew, butter chicken and ancho pork ribs.
Other than that, I have Tonga Toast (Surprised no one said that already.) topping the must eat list.

I admit staying at a value the last three times, more often than not, if not all of my resort meals, are just based on cravings. That'll change at my next stay though.

There are no resort restaurants or dishes that we absolutely cannot miss. However...

If we are staying at Old Key West and decide to eat at Olivia's, we must have conch fritters. OMG they are so awesome.

If we go to 'Ohana, we must pig out on those pork dumplings or pot stickers or whatever they're called. Best thing on the menu (and there's a lot of good stuff on that menu).

We love Boma, but there is no one item that stands out IMO. Hubby would disagree and mention a soup he especially loves, but I don't remember which one it was. It's in his trip report so I'll look it up and edit it in.

If we have breakfast at Cape May Cafe, I must have Mickey waffles and hubby must have the pastrami salmon.

Edited to add: Hubby's favorite soup at Boma is the carrot ginger soup.

For snacks at WL I love the magic cookie bar and they also have a very lovely lemon pound cake. I noticed that the Territory Lounge does not have drunken donuts anymore which made me cry a little. You can still get the cobbler from Artist Point there so I am trying to work threw my despair over the missing donuts.

Since getting the recipe for the cobbler, we drown ourselves BEFORE on it so we can eat other things there! biggrin

There is a drink that my son reminded me of, so probably should in the tipple thread, but at the AKL bar waiting for Boma's my men discovered this drink (name is a blank) but it has Whiskey and Agave Juice. My son loved it so much that we got the recipe from the bartender and he now enjoys it at home (bars around here lean more toward beer than agave juice). The men all love it and drink it today.:bigsmile" I tend to go towards less filling or less sweet before dinner.

We get recipes when ever possible (allears is a good start) because we don't know when we will be back and this way we can continue to share some of the magic. There is a cake called the Canadian Club Whiskey Cake, and I made it for DH's birthday a few years ago. Sometimes it's better NOT to know what all goes into something or our common sense would say, " I'll have something that will not result in a large fat deposit in my nether region?"

My son refers to is as "Disney's obvious and intentional disregard for how much sugar, butter, and whip cream are bad for you!" The cake was delicious awesome
But when the friends came to enjoy, I did not share the ingredients, just smiled and nodded. biggrin
