Road Tripping to Disney

I know that lots of you fly, buy who drives? And of those of you who drive, is the journey part of the fun? I was thinking about this yesterday. When we used to drive to FL from WV for vacation, we always had our favorite places to stop along the way. Sometimes we'd take a day trip into Charleston SC, or Savannah. We normally liked the same stops for hotels and meals, too.

Is your roadtrip a tradition? Or do you just get there as quickly as possible? It doesn't have to be a WDW roadtrip. Feel free to add info about other trips you've taken.

Since we moved to Charlotte, we drive now. Last time, we were up at 4:30 and on the road not too far after that! And no dilly -dallying with side trips or stops - get me to my Disney!!

We don't really do any other road trips, unless you count all the miles we've put on relocating across the country. In the last 6 years we drove, with the dogs, from Minneapolis to Phoenix, then from Phoenix to Maryland, Maryland to Minneapolis, and then Minneapolis to Charlotte.

When we were in the process of relocating from Minneapolis to Charlotte and switching jobs, we had to spend 2 weeks in Charlotte every month until we moved permanently. So we spent 3 months driving from Minneapolis to Charlotte for 2 weeks, then driving back to Minneapolis for 2 weeks, then back to Charlotte...with the dogs each time sarcastic

The beauty of it is that we have always made it an adventure and have seen ALOT of the US by car this way Smile And some fun things along the way.

Joe starts to get nervous after we've been in one place for about 2 years...I get antsy and start thinking about another move!

Interestingly, we will have been in Charlotte for 2 years come March.... eek

We always drive and yes the journey is part of the fun. The excitement builds with each mile we drive to get there. Plus driving adds a few days to our vacation.

We might consider doing a road trip one day, but we'd have to have some stuff we wanted to do along the way. Dallas to Orlando is pretty far!

Our trip is just about 1000 miles. It is 16 hours driving time and usually 19-20 on the road hours. We usually spend two nights on the road on the way down and one on the way back. We only take the two on the way down so we can be there early on check in day.

We drive every year - 16 hours! We always have a lot of fun with the actual road trip part of it. We always take 2 days to drive down.

We drive and take an extra week or so to get there and come back. Last year we left Indiana and went to North Carolina for 3 days to see my sister and visit the Nascar Hall of Fame and be in Charlotte for the All Star Race. Then we went to South Carolina and stayed in Myrtle Beach for 3 days in a beautiful hotel right on the ocean. Then finally we arrived at Disney for 7 days. Then spent one night in Georgia on the way back to Indiana. This year we are going to Georgia for a day to visit my sister. Then staying in North Reddington Beach for 3 days to enjoy the Gulf. Then onto Disney for 7 days. We will stop in Georgia again to see my sister on the way back and then arrive in Indiana.

This year I am buying a CD that I found on Amazon and it has 75 original Disney songs to play in the car on our way!

How fun! Useless fact of the day: from my office window I stare directly at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Never been there though.

BIG HOORAY for the CD! I have one that is required listening to as soon as the car starts for our trip. Joe is ready to leave me at a rest stop before we even hit the North Carolina/South Carolina line.....and that's only about 15 minutes away.

Since we live only 3 hours away, we always drive. We play Disney music in the car to get us all reved up!

We drive all the way on the I75. We live an about an hour from Detroit so when we cross the boarder it is straight to disney. It is about a 24 hour drive with a couple of hours to stop and sleep at a rest stop. We use to stop overnight somewhere(but had a few bad experiences) and then do little pit stops( our favourite was Mayfield dairy for and ice cream mmmm), but now it is straight through. We have a little contest on which one of us experiences the cleanest bathrooms and each time we go something whacky usually happens. It is quite an adventure and no trip is the same.
