Same here MrFerret. I can totally understand people that want to or have to though. But we save for going to Disney. It's the only place we go on vacation. It's only the two of us. If we could go more often, we might try and save some money here and there, but we can't so we go all out when we do.

My thoughts exactly. We save for 2 years(ish) and do without to visit our "home".The last thing we want to think about is finances when we are there. It is our escape from the real world and frugality is part of our real world.

We earmark monies to put into the "vacation" fund. When we know we are on track then we decide to book. If we are a little short we will consider value resort, or postpone. My husband knows that it makes me happy and he really seems rested when we go there. We also look at lump money that helps boost the fund (tax returns and such). As with any major life event, if you want it, you will find a way to make it happen and whatever way you get there, it's your choice to enjoy or regret.

There are countless tips on how to save while eating. Ordering just appetizers, splitting meals, ordering the just main entree of a combo dish (You can actually do that.), no dining plan, skip the soda and soft drinks, etc. But I do agree that when it comes to saving money for Disney, it's for everything that comes with it and not just one part of the whole package.
